- Scrolling through google earth the other day looking for any local waters to fish, I stumbled across these 2 little ponds in Tibshelf. After a quick Facebook post it turns out it’s ran by a very highly valued club and the main man is in fact a friend of mines father.
In the mist of requesting a days fishing there with Gary, the clubs gaffa, I thought I’d give it a quick visit and see just how nice the venue is being described as. Well the camera had to come out!!
Nestled in a very popular 5 Pits Trail route these 2 little ponds are accessible via footpath and incredibly appealing. The wildlife here is thriving and the club has made a HUGE impact in helping promote this.
I’ve counted 11 species of birds, I’ve watched a hungry Hawk pinch a Sparrow and Gary has even erected some squirrel runs in the trees. The place is a natural gold mine!
Gary has watched these ponds fall into a severe derelict state until he’s stepped in and made very rewarding changes. From a once abandoned pair of ponds to now a fishing heaven for both members abs day ticket anglers. It’s quite breathtaking seeing a venue as beautiful and perfect as this with angling permitted on it. Normally oil paintings like this are tucked away in an estate garden surrounded by “No Fishing” signs.
The club is Tibshelf and Newton Angling Club and they welcome all to become members and offer the right hand lake to Day Ticket anglers.
A beautiful anglers paradise with the added performance of very healthy and local wildlife. I would definitely miss many bites here with the constant distraction of the bird life. It’s just stunning!
So, if you’re after a new venue, a different membership water or just want to be part of this great angling club, simple get in touch with them and enjoy this great venue to yourself.
Massive respect to Gary Toon and his efforts in keeping this place in good condition. It truly is the most beautiful fishery I’ve ever attended and a great example that any run down venue can be brought back to life.
…perfect, just perfect!
My local ponds love fishing there its changed alot over the years and its all down to the bailf and all the helpers well stocked now with fish it looks really nice in summer when everything is grown its crazy fishing
What facilities are available? I might give it a bash.Might have a look around it, Ben.Have you looked at the Clipstone venue, another one on the bucket list 🤣🤝
I wonder if anyone has caught " Arnie " yet , the elusive 30+ carp .
