You are playing bass? E minor is the general key of this tune, Em7 is a chord, there is a difference. It is like E minor key is the language you talk and Em7 and Bm7 are different rhymes in this language and the single pitches are words. E minor is a minor scale based on E, consisting of the pitches E, F♯, G, A, B, C, and D - So these are all you could play and they sound more or less good relative to the chord the other instruments are playing at the moment - i dont want to go too much into detail at this point. For example when it is market that an em7 is played they play an em7 chord consisting of different notes as a selection of the e minor key notes statet by me above - what you play on your bass to this is a question of songwriting but for a start you could play the root note of the chords at the same time the chord is played. The root note of an em7 is e, the root note of bm7 is b etc. Google your fretboard so you know where to find an e, b etc on your fretboard.
