  • In this video I change the rear brake pads and discs on my 2007 Ford C-Max. I’m not a mechanic, just your average Dad looking to do things myself, save a bit of money and hopefully help a few people along the way.
Hope you’ve enjoyed watching this video, if you have please like the video and consider subscribing. I’ll be adding to the channel as and when DIY projects come along.

Nice vid mate, about to replace mine. Garage want £210 to do 1 side. Would you recommend changing both sides at same time rather than just 1? Thanks again

Hi. I can relate to p8ddy's point that the impending problems of removal prehaps due to corrosion and locked bolts were where I wanted to learn from. i.e. removal of the caliper hanger. Removal of the old disc. CLEANING of the area to accept the new disc. Also on a saftey matter- I saw no evidence that you'd cleaned the protective OILY coating off the disc befor fitting. Oh dear! Oil and brakes shouldnt be mixed. I hope all went well and the coating burnt off rapidly b4 it seriously contaminated your brake pads. Also hope there's no judder or nasty ride out. If you did indeed clean up the mounting suface smoothly thus shouldn't occur.
Thanks for having a go and joining the UA-cam uploaders like myself. Hopefully there'll be more from you in future.
    Regards,
    Rogey. (Dirt Warrior)

Nicely done video. Thank you. One observation. I didn't see you compress the brake piston when you installed the new pads. There is a special tool for this, but it can sometime be done using a simple C clamp. Did you have to do this?

rednebmb I did have to compress the piston, I brought the piston retraction set, made it extremely easy to do. I believe I show this part in my other video. Take a look on my channel, there is a video where I change the front discs and pads. Thanks for your comment!

Thank you for the vid, as you said this is the only specific cmax video I’ve found quick question did you need to bleed the brakes after? Thank you

@@neils-running-journey thank you for your comment. I didn’t need to bleed the brakes after, no. Once the new disc and pads were on I just pumped the pedal until the pedal was hard again.

A how too video that misses out actually doing any of how's. Wanted to actually see bolt locations and the issues encountered when changing discs.
"Hope I haven't missed anything out" - You haven't actually put anything in!

Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment. This was one of my first videos ever filmed and was very much a case of learning whilst doing it too. Watching it back I don’t really understand your concern. From what I can see the only part I missed was removing the caliper mounting bracket.

@@spallsy87 - The part you missed was, ironically, the part I needed to see! On reading back my original post comes across way harsher than it's meant to. I do realise that these things can't be all things to everyone - but it does appear to be a theme on UA-cam car 'How to' vids that a Blue Peter-esque 'Here's one I prepared earlier' is a favoured approach. Woodworking youtube vids take the opposite approach and can be tediously detailed.
Anyhoo - To try and sound more constructive: A detailed and filmed approach would work as would covering possible issues - Watching stuff run up to the bit you need only for it to skip by it is pretty frustrating for folks who need that info, especially as the C-Max is very under represented on youtube car tutorials (and the c-max is also irritatingly twee to work on). For want of a better illustration, some of the ThumperTalk walk throughs on DRZ400 mods and servicing take an almost 'live haynes manual' approach showing the difficulties encountered, the approach, even bold sizes and torque etc.
Long post I know. Cheers for posting the vid anyway, I managed to work everything out on the car, changed the suspension strut and no one died so all good. ;)
