Part of a quick and dirty tips series, a quick look at the MPC Live and the new VST plugin Hype which features a FM synth but it's not very obvious. Behind the curtain there is a full fledged FM synth, but unfortunately it's quite limited currently. There are many creative ways it can be used though, and I go over a few of those here.

This was a great explainer of the FM features in Hype. Tons to explore and tinker with in this synth.

Delighted to find "transcript" when looking on my laptop. Was finding this video very interesting and informative but your voice was getting buried by the music, which kind of defeated the purpose of the video. Will go back to the start, pausing, rewinding, so I can absorb all the information you offer. I've enjoyed Hype but never made any sense out of the interface. Just twirled knobs at random with no idea at all what they actually did, or how to arrive at a sound I was hearing in my head. Thank you for this.

Nice one! I love my Akai Force even more :)
I dont like using Samplers at all, really more kind of the Synth/Drum/Plugin guy. Imho the provided VSTs by Akai range between decent to very good. Should be okay for semiprof producing, right?

yeah anything can be FM synth even old analogue stuff... also they dont wanna unlock the stuff as you have to pay for the extra synths its a marketing choice and kinda annoying as the included synths are kinda lame

Yeah for sure. It's just a small hint at FM. If you can afford it, the OPx4 plugin is on sale this week for half off. I just bought it myself. It's crazy good.

@@FortressofSound OPx4 is really good for sure despite that damn Init preset from God knows where.

this is very helpful what chords or scale are you using when you are playing? I am trying to learn piano, nice little tones

I wouldn't replace a keyboard with a MPC. On the other hand, I two digital pianos and two synths along with a MPC One. Different devices for different jobs.
A MODX is a good general synth with class leading FM synthesis.
