Mr Whalley sadly failed with this. Good play with a lazy ending. I feel totally short changed. I hate it when writers think it's clever to leave a yawning gap at the end.
Peter Whalley is my kind of author. Thanks to you I found his wonderful works. Thank you kindly. PS. No matter if someone is harshly critical. Oh, the ending is more than thrilling - guess yourself
A very poor ending. Not the usual standard of Peter Wally though the beginning and middle of the play were excellent so the ending came as a real disappointment.
I have noticed that with a few of his. but this did end abruptly and I would have liked to have seen a resolution. Though I thought from the start the friend was the culprit.
I've read all the comments so far. I can see both points of view. It can be frustrating when you are left hanging. On the other hand, the author invites you to finish it off in your own opinion. You could easily write two good endings. I prefer a good clean finish I must admit.
Not one of Peter's best. Plot rather weak and pretty boring really. Earlier works much better. lf you're writing becomes formulaic and weak time to give up l feel and rest on your past laurels?
The point isn't who the killer is. It's not a whodunnit. The point is that by the playwrite leaving us in a confused state limbo, we are experiencing the same disorientated state as the protagonist. We experience her confusion. Bloody brilliant if you ask me.
I paint portraits of people's pets from photographs, I listen to 4 or 5 radio plays each day in my studio on the bay, and am always amazed that so much time has passed. Cheers to you from The Maritimes.
I agree with many of these comments praising Peter Whalley- I've searched his name a lot on here so much that when I type in P-E-T his name and Peter Lovesey's pop up.
Well this one was a bit rubbish. Even the plot, why is the friend constantly hanging around Colin's girlfriends, and if he is a killer, what is his motive?? So Colin obsesses over his girlfriends, yet as an adult he only had 1 relationship that lasted 2 and a half years, not exactly a string of obsession..then the latest girlfriend, the relationship was 5 mins long, yet she suddenly had difficulty thinking straight? And somehow over the course of a short trial, developed a trust and bond between the newly introduced friend? This one was definitely odd.
The other thing that did not add up was him being charged with Sarah's murder way down the line, when he had been going out with Mollie long enough for her to consider moving in. No, he did some good ones, but this one had ''dud'' and ''rushed'' all over it.
The ending with Molly be asked. Don't you believe me. And her answering. "I don't know. How can I know" Is what she was thinking during the trial. How can you really know anybody? Really know them.
I always tend to nod off at some stage listening to these dramas and thought I had done so again with this one, but I have replayed the last five minutes and it turns out it was just an unsatisfactory ending!
I think it was supposed to end with the dilemma unresolved in that moment, since either of them could equally done it😱 I didn't like that she didn't run off and dump both of them out of fear...its what I would have done, but the author left that for us to decide.🤔 So then, unresolved, you have to do it😳🥺
I've heard this before on a different channel and the ending is missing! I listened to it again as I couldn't remember who was the truly guilty one. I think one of them fell out of a window, but the ending is definitely chopped off.
Hi! I think I remember the scene you're depicting, and it's from another radio drama... I'm afraid this is the open ending Peter Whalley chose. I have searched high and low, and this is it (44 minutes, everywhere). I can understand open endings are not everyone's cup of tea, though. 😐
The “Last Person” to hear the victim was the sweet little old lady down the hall. If any of you watch Midsomer Murders, there is no such thing as a sweet little old lady. I think she wanted both Collin and Paul for herself and murdered the young lady. I mean listen to her Alibi.. she was awaken by someone banging on the door and she didn’t stick her nose into it??? Come on!! How many little old lady’s would just go back to sleep! she did it… fIN
Not fond of a cliffhanger. We can't write the ending, only Peter Whalley could have. They were his characters. I've tried deciding who I think is the 'bad guy' but I am left with she needs to take off and avoid both.
the ending is a complete cop out. any half decent playwright wouldve resolved this better than this two bob ending. last one of whalleys plays ill be wasting my time on
A good storyline spoiled by, not a cliffhanger but more of a kerbhanger. Too much jumping back and forth and peculiar fake regional accents spoiled this for me.
@dsmsl9734 4 seconds ago utter nonsense - you clearly dint even know what a cliffhanger is. ie something that gets resolve din the next episode/season. this is just a waste of everyones time. Poor
I know exactly what you mean we're so used to listening to the same old tried-and-true beginning middle and end something else shows up and were aggravated as hell because we don't know the ending I'm included in that it's not the first time it's been done some great novels amended the same way short stories me off and on that way but we'll just have to survive it won't we?
Alright, here’s another play by the famous Peter Whalley with NO ending. Once again, the story ends abruptly and ambiguously, and it’s up to us, the audience to add the MISSING ending - who’s done it and why. I am more and more inclined to believe this author is suffering from a specific writer’s block or just plainly lazy.
Great play! But honestly I was very disappointed with the ending! The suspense was just starting to build up and then along came a FULL STOP! It’s as if there’s been 10 minutes shaved of the end!.
After reading all the comments frustrated by the 'ending' or rather the 'non ending' .. I figure I would be incredibly stupid to bother listening at all! Turned off!
Anyone else felt shortchanged by the ending ?😮
totally all the pseudo intellectuals thinkiing a book with the last page missing is sooo avant garde darling. pathetic!
Sadly, yes.
There was no ending. It just stopped. Total waste of time.
Yup
Yes
love Peter Whalley, so ty for this. unfortunately the ending fell flat for me. oh well :)
Thank tou so much for the upload, dear Arch!!! ✨🥰 We miss you so much here!! I hope you are doing well! 🤗 xxx
Prior to listening I read a comments warning me about the ending. Unfortunately, I listened anyway.
It would have made more sense had the men been joint killers and Mollie was going to be their next...
That's what I thought was going to happen
Thank you for the Peter Whalley, Arch. Much appreciated.
Mr Whalley sadly failed with this. Good play with a lazy ending. I feel totally short changed. I hate it when writers think it's clever to leave a yawning gap at the end.

No. You’re wrong. There WAS no ending. That’s poor writing
My second play today with the same result. Brilliant, I loved it.
A very poor ending. Not the usual standard of Peter Wally though the beginning and middle of the play were excellent so the ending came as a real disappointment.
Awful ending, or should I say NO ending. I was waiting for the next sentence and Nothing!!!!
I have noticed that with a few of his. but this did end abruptly and I would have liked to have seen a resolution. Though I thought from the start the friend was the culprit.
😂😂😂😂😂 my exact feeling!
Surely that’s not the complete play.
EXACTLY! I didn't see your comment until I listened to it...I too was waiting for the next sentence.
Thank you for your honesty. Based on your comment and then checking out others with the same feeling I think I’ll skip this one.

Isn't that like a restaurant chef who gives you the ingredients then says " Cook it yourself"?

@@nogginnogg1788 I have to agree with you.

Really enjoyed thank you :)
Have to agree with the others. The ending has left us hanging. Howver, I still enjoyed listening. Thank you ❤
I think he deliberately opted for the ambiguous end as it was becoming too ibvious to do the paul as killer reveal....
Very frustrating ending😮
Thanks Arch!
Terrible ending.
Sadly I have to agree.
I'm so irritated with the ending
I know!!!!!
It was the perfect ending,,you decide who was lying,,,,
i don’t get it. what happened?? fgs! 😮
Left in mid air, no ending, what a disappointment
Excellent story and just as good to listen to again, never disappoint Arch!👏👏👏👏👏👍😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
So why exactly Mollie’s own life was in danger? The question left unanswered...😕
Many Thanks for sharing....what an ending... such a dilemma...
A non-ending finale left me quite disappointed. I wonder if leaving it with two possibilities is meant to satisfy everyone.
I always tend to nod off at some stage listening to these dramas and thought I had done so again with this one, but I have replayed the last five minutes and it turns out it was just an unsatisfactory ending!
Colin did it. Last person to see Sarah alive
" You've got a lovely mouth . Can I kiss you ? " I'm going to have to remember that line . Seems fool proof .
so who is the murderer
Hmmm me to. I'm confused.

I did enjoy it though. Thank you "Arch".

Scary stuff. Makes trust an active member of a relationship.
lol I love his drop off endings
Whalley had it in for women; I just listened to about 5 of these and not a single male victim.
Really?
I've listened to a lot of his plays and it's usually a male victim. More often than not anyway
A very poor example of s cliff hanger
Who done it😐
Murder mysteries are supposed to have an ending. I never read one which gave you two endings to choose from. Disappointed!!

What a waste of time. No cliffhanger just a dumb ending
Follow your gut woman. Always follow your gut. Trust your doubt.

It's meant to be a 'cliff-hanger' - leaves the ending to the mind of the listener. Not unusual for the BBC.

So who did it??? 🧐
Did the ending get cut off?

Well, that's 45 mins of my life I am never going to get back 🤦
I totally agree…what a waste of time.
Who freaking did it????¡!!!!!!!!!!!
Paul was gay and in love with Collin. Paul wanted Collins love but could never have it. He was jealous and killed off the competition.
That could be possible. Wish that we could know for sure.
Ooh no!!!! not one of those! Well it good and roped me in.
