The charcoal actually ist self lighting charcoal, basically it would be enough to light one with a lighter and all the other ones would automatically catch on fire!
They use these quick light charcoals for hookah/shisha sometimes.

For those interested: the charcoal seems to be the kind used to burn incense. It is a blend of wood charcoal dust, a sprinkle of saltpeter and some coke dust compressed together. It is made to give off a constant, allbeit low heat over a long time and will not easily go out by fat dripping onto it. Whe using it for cooking, I recommend waiting untill the patties have a gray coating of ash. This way you can be sure that the saltpeter is burned off.
Its just self lighting charcoal shaped into a donut shape. Tyler doesn't know what a sweet potato is so I'm assuming this charcoal must be magical and very confusing for him.

You need tempered glass to do it because that's what the side windows are on a car are made out of
You can also shatter tempered/automotive glass with a broken piece of ceramic, like off of a spark plug. You don't even have to hit it hard, just gently lob it at the glass and it will shatter.

With the window breaker you need to swing it and hit the glass with a bit of force.
There are many types of glass, and their properties vary significantly.
Mason jars are annealed glass, soda bottles are usually made out of soda-lime glass, and the beaker is probably made out of borosilicate glass AKA Pyrex.
Car windows are almost always made out of tempered glass. Tempered glass is a rather strong glass, but when it breaks, it breaks catastrophically and shatters into a lot of very small pieces.
The front windshield is quite different, however, so while this device may or may not shatter a front windshield, it won't do you any good in actually getting out through a front windshield.
Actually with the window breaker he had all you need to do is push on the glass, you're talking about fixed spike glass breakers.
Was I the only cringing when he was trying to break the glass with no gloves, just expecting him to hurt himself..

The charcoal is called "quick lights" very similar to those uses for smoking hooka. You can buy small logs of them for about $4 here. Comes in a pack of 8. They don't flame like a normal briquette. The reason is because an open flame is harder to control. Makes sense why they use it in a survival box. Everything in that box seems very well though out. Great vid!!
Those glass breaking points on those survival tools usually work well. Because of you, I had to try breaking a Mason jar with a survival tool. Like your experience, it made little divots in the jar but worked well on a cars side window.

Heck. I did actually question it too and I'm not a full on 'hippie.' Still have environmental tendencies though. Also, as a survival tool, a single use product isn't that good. Especially when you factor the extra space and weight of it.
