  • I thought this would be a good tune to show off my new Pilgrim Celtic Dawn 2 tenor banjo. My cheap recording equipment and sloppy playing really don't do it justice!
Guitar for accompaniment, with my Ashbury mandolin in the second run through.

I play the mandolin and I’m thinking about getting a tenor banjo since it’s tuned the same would be fun to screw around with and would motivate me to learn some Irish tunes

Hello Bob, what a surprisingly good sound. Not so plunky like a lot of other tenor banjos. May I ask what kind of nylon strings you have on your banjo? And do you play the banjo always with nylon strings?

Thanks Bernhard. This banjo is just strung up with regular steel tenor banjo strings. I used nylon-cored strings on my Grafton for a while. They were D'Addario classical guitar silverwound nylon-cored strings. I used a .043 G string, a .031 D string, a .022 A string, and the original .013 steel E string. I think I will try them on this banjo, they could sound really nice with the extra sustain.
