Oh the joys & aggravations of livestock in the winter. Have to agree with you, a door would be nice on the wheel loader. Take care.

I think my kubota dealer had some doors in stock for case loaders here in canada for $475.00

Good to watch your videos Blake. Horses are work, but I think I would enjoy having one or more around. Have a great day and thanks for sharing with us.

I want to try a small loader like that for hay so bad, also for cleaning out pens. No where near the budget for the ones I see for sale let alone a used skid steer

Found a calf with it’s head stuck in one of those round bail feeders several years ago, took forever to get it unstuck. Bars that narrow toward the top is what trapped it.

Hank! I don't use round bales for my ponies, but I know a few folks who use the Hay Chix nets inside a round bale feeder to keep the waste down and they really like that. I have found that for my cows, the round bale feeder with a solid bottom has saved a lot of waste, not completely preventing it, but it sure helps a ton.

We have one for our horses. I believe it’s a hay hut brand. They work to keep most of the snow off the hay. Not perfect though. Still some waste at the end, but you can usually pick up the leftover hay with 2-3 pitch fork loads and put inside with the next bale. The only downside is getting the hay hut around the new bale. They are heavy and the loader we have won’t lift high enough to clear the bale. Definite a challenge every 2 weeks to do it by myself. Also we drop the 5x6 bale on a flat side. Seams easier for the horses to break it apart that way.

An extender with a hook on the end will enable you to lift the HayHut high enough if you cannot physically push it back over the hay

I have 9 horses on round bales in the winter. I like the huts to keep the weather off but they alone don't stop waste. Round bale nets work awesome. Now I have almost zero waste.

I welded up a hay ring with a bottom in it so they can eat what falls out of the chains into the bottom. I put a roof over it that flips up so I can load it easy. Last longer than anything else we tried.

Get some 1inch square tubing make a frame and Plexi glass for a temporary door , may not be perfect but it's got to be better than nothing

I built a feeder from 1 1/2" conduit. Two folding frames, one rigid one hinged for loading the bale. Put it on a wood sled type base for moving to clean area. Put it up on a frame about 24" high. Works great, Except one horse pulls out more than he eats!

Is there a such thing as a heavy equipment junk/salvage yard? If so, maybe you could find a used door.

Isn’t that annoying when the bale falls apart on the bottom with the net wrap under it? Lol I figured out a little trick that helps not do that as bad, lift the bale a little higher and cut along the bottom quarter of the bale starting at the loader side and leave about 6” or so uncut at the far side. Then you can pull most of it out from underneath before it all falls apart on you. Helps save me a lot of frustration yanking and tearing and making a mess… lol

it bothers me i can never find sisal twine wrapped bales any more then it rotted away if wrapped around the tractor and the cows could eat it as well dropping the bale in is better as long as you can afford to replace then because you will drop a bale onto the ring and bend the shit outta them
