Thanks very much for making this video! After an hour spent combing, dizzing, and then spinning alpaca I am pleased to have learned that I'm well on my way to making a true worsted! I'm a novice spinner, getting to know my first wheel (a Matchless) and my new English-style combs. They seem to work well with alpaca, and also get the job done with a hodgepodge blend of angora and merino I've thrown together. Thanks again for giving a name to the somewhat lumpy handcombed top I'm spinning. I wonder how it will look, once plied. I'll be sure to share a photo on IG, and tag you if you'd like. 😁
I enjoy the worsted style and love working with the combed top the best. Still working one my consistent thickness. I am however working with rather short fibers vs what you showed. I am learning with Jacob fleece. Im looking forward to using longer fiber. What is the fiber you were using in this video?
I'm not sure, but I would have thought flicking with a little comb gives the same result as combing with a big comb. I have always included flicking in worsted prep, then spun either worsted or woolen depending on end use, but that's my personal take.
I bought mine from a contact on Ravelry who used to import them but that was at least 6 years ago and that person’s not importing them any more as far as I can see. If you’re in the UK there’s a thread on the UK Spinners Ravelry group called ‘Wool Comb Advice’ which says that The Wool Staple was the last to import them but they’re not planning a shipment at the moment due to import costs, Brexit etc.

I bought 4 fleeces in the Dales a few weeks back, 2 need carding and 2 combing ..and I’m itching to get the bfl combed!

So if I’m spinning from tip-flicked locks, even though I have all the tips parallel, I’m not spinning True Worsted because I haven’t combed or dizzed?

Where did you get the Valkyrie combs from, please? I can’t find any anywhere !
