Dashing through spikes is used in the speed run too. There are a couple times where spikes have a big enough gap between the hotboxes to dash in between them. Also, if I remember correctly, as long as your moving away (facing away?) From the spikes, the won't hurt you

Why are people calling foul on demodash? I can understand not knowing about that particular tech in this game, but calling it cheating? Let's think about it logically. If he had Assist mode on, he would be going through a lot more than loose spike clusters. Spikes have much smaller hitboxes than you think, ducking Madeline can fit between loosely placed spikes when dashing. The trick is called Demodash, and it's used in the Any% run to skip a small segment in Chapter 3.
@@romank9611 It's fairly technical and I don't 100% understand it. But if jump and crouch, you're in the crouch animation, and when you dash you're able to dash in any direction still. So you essentially have a window to remain 4 pixels tall and be dashing in any direction.
That's the collected heart entity (the blue heart). The TAS had finished this level multiple times, meaning that the heart was already collected. It's a Red heart animation because the level is on the B-side of the chapter, due to the music changing to Confronting Yourself when you hit badeline. The map creator didn't want this, so they used the B-side slot to prevent it.
According to the creator, you don't need advanced game mechanics (such as hypers and neutral jumps). I semi believe them, however it makes it a lot easier.
