It's just so simple as well. There's a lot of keywords and interactions etc, but the reality is, you're moving through terrain, revealing hostiles and trying to fight your way to an objective. Once you learn the rules you basically pick up anything and give it a spin.
Great game play thru, I haven't played the game in a while but while watching you the rules were coming back to me and I am going to get the game back on the table. Great solo game, lots of decision making.
I enjoy your videos; very nicely prepared and narrated. But in this case there are a few significant mistakes. The biggest mistake is the way you are drawing hostiles for location cards. The experience number for the hostiles isn’t how many hostile cards to draw, it is how many hostile value points of hostile cards to draw. When a location card is played, you draw and place hostile cards until you meet or exceed that value. Some hostile cards have low values (even zero), so it is entirely possible to have an experience level of (for example) 2 and end up placing three or four cards. Or only one card. It can really hose your game when you have a level of 2 and draw hostile cards with values 0-1-0-4, facing four hostile cards including one seriously tough enemy. Also, “recon” is a keyword that allows you to view the location deck and select a location card (of the specified if identified), not randomly draw one. And “rear-most” is another keyword that specifies the closest location to the mission card *with* one or more soldiers.
also ... drawn hostiles are placed in the location they were drawn unless specifically instructed to place elsewhere (i.e. rear-most, front-most, targeted etc)
All of Dan's games(DVG) are excellent. Warfighter is my favorite . The expansions add replay value that never ends. Waiting for the fantasy version. Keep up the great work. This game is worth the money (WWII, Modern, Pacific).
Yeah, Warfighter Fantasy was teased with the Shadow War Kickstarter, and Dan recently said it should be coming to Kickstarter later this year. Can't wait myself!
I'm not criticizing your play. The more complicated the game is the more likely things are to be overlooked, especially if you are concentrating on how to win. I hope me pointing things out helps other learn the game and improves your gameplay. I don't mind when other people point out my mistakes. It helps me to better learn the rules and gameplay. A tip when the field becomes overcrowded with enemies, you should be thinking of moving to the objective quickly and getting out of the enemies range. If you only have 11 turns to finish and the objective is 5 cards away, you will spend 5 turns just moving there. That only gives you 6 turns to return fire and draw cards to complete the movement. Plus some objective cards also require some turns to complete the objective (usually 2 or so). Getting to the objective is key, regardless of how many hostiles are after you.
This is a normal outcome. I usually win 1 out of 4 games. Getting the right squad built is key. I can't say enough about how well designed this game is. If you do not have this game , I highly recommend this game to all.(any version).
Hi, Thanks for the video ! I have a question : when you placed the Light Jungle card (around 12:00), you drew 2 Hostile cards, to match the "2" facing the team's resource value. Isn't the 2 the total of Experience values of the Hostiles, rather than the number of their cards? Which would mean that the first Hostile card drawn, which has a value of 2, would be enough. Or is this different from Modern Warfighter?
Thank you for taking the time to make the video, very nice. I saw this and had the same question. In Warfighter WWII the number corresponding to your squad value on the location card is the value of enemy Experience you draw from the hostile deck. Your first card had a 2 in the top right corner and should have satisfied the enemies for that location. I looked this up in the PDF rules and here is the scoop. "The total Experience value of Hostile cards that appear in a Location depends on your team’s total resource value. This is the same as the Resource value on the Mission card. Example: Your team begins the game with 120 Resource Points. When you place the Stream Location card, you draw Hostile cards until you have drawn 10 or more Experience Points in Hostile cards."
So, both a very funny and I will always keep both in my collection. FoF is a much more in-depth wargame at a higher level. Warfighter is more like a pulp action serial. Great fun and you get some heroic/Hollywood moments. A bit more on the laid back side. In the same way that I own bother Band of Brothers and Kelly's Heroes. Both good in their own rights.
When you add wounds you add a separate wound counter for each attack. When you got a 2 wound on #1 you should have put a 2 wound and kept the 1 wound counter you already had. You treat each wound individually. Read page 34.
Question. About 40 mins in, the Japanese go through their attack. And that event card allowed the Machine Gun team in Woodbury's zone a free attack. You pulled random chit 1 for them to attack Woodbury and they scored 1 wound. Later you went left to right thru all the zones, for each Japanese Unit and they performed their normal attacks. However when you got back to Machine Gun team in Woodbury's zone should you not have redrawn a new Random Target Chit 1-3? I may have missed it; but I think you left the originally pulled #1 chit out from the free attack. I don't recall what the rules say; but guessing probably should repull.
Alexander, does a soldiers XP start again each round of play? Example, You use the 2 XP a soldier has in one turn/round. The hostiles have their turn and another round begins. The XP are once again available?
No, to spend further XP you would have to earn it by taking out a Hostile. Whichever soldier makes the final EKIA will receive XP equal to their Hostile Value (top right of the card).
Thank you Alexander for demonstrating the game for us. I sense the game will succeed in entertaining us when we see you lose gloriously and still come out smiling (and crying 😢inside) LOL. By the way what is EKIA, enemy KIA? Seems KIA not obvious enough.
We typically play as is, but I also haven't read throug the errata. It's a game for fun so if it's a little imba then I don't take it as seriously as other titles.
I am curious did you get the feel like you were in WW2 Pacific fighting the Japanese? I have Warfighter the Modern game plus all the expansions. Love it. Have you played this version? I figure I could play a new game every day for a year and not play the same one twice.
I haven't played any of the Modern. This one does feel like Pacific WWII, the locations and enemies are pretty good in that way (honestly the base Europe game is a little more bland because the terrain is a bit more generic).
Technically speaking it's the reverse, in that Rifles in the Pacific is a very simple 30 min, lunch time version of this game. But bare bones they are similar in a lot of their concepts.
Alexander: Thank you! THis is one of my favorite games and has always been one of my favorite concepts in war games. It is a genius concept.
It's just so simple as well. There's a lot of keywords and interactions etc, but the reality is, you're moving through terrain, revealing hostiles and trying to fight your way to an objective. Once you learn the rules you basically pick up anything and give it a spin.
After seeking your review, and this play through. Went out and bought this, and am I glad I did. Fantastic game.
Thank you for recording this playthrough. Very well done.
The value on the terrain card table is not the number of hostile cards but the value of hostiles drawn,ie number on the top RHS of the hostile card.
Great game play thru, I haven't played the game in a while but while watching you the rules were coming back to me and I am going to get the game back on the table. Great solo game, lots of decision making.
Still, a great job ! Thank you !

That’s when you bust out your Sherman tank and shout (while button down, of course 😊) BRING IT ON!!!

You don't need to wipe out a card of screening hostiles to attack a hostile they are screening, just have them all EKIA or suppressed
lots of info thanks very much its a great help in learning the game

Looks fun.
I have the modern version of this game, I’m hoping for a Vietnam war version, WW2 really isn’t my thing.
Hi! nice video
how would you compare this to FoF? I know they are very different on the scale side... what about fun factor?
So, both a very funny and I will always keep both in my collection. FoF is a much more in-depth wargame at a higher level. Warfighter is more like a pulp action serial. what make may no more hostiles card are to draws? resuffle?
If a space/column is vacant, no card draws
I have a question
When a soldat must pay with action cards can we pay with location cards we Don t need? Thank you
I say you can. It's a but vague in the rules, but so far the DVG police haven't showed up at my house.
Yes you can. Location cards are Action Cards and all types of Action Cards can be used to pay for Entry Costs
I think you forgot to discard the ammo for the player soldier and the nps. Also forgot to consider the reload rolls

hello i don t understand the word pike 7 + on a carte what s thata? please
I believe that is Pick 7+ refers to the soldier’s ability to pick a lock on a door.
32:00 I believe you are only allowed to move each soldier once per turn?
34:00 I believe once you suppressed the first card you could of targeted the officer since he is no longer screened by the first card.
40:30, when you take a 2nd wound, you leave the first one there. This is for bandaging each wound separably.
40:30 The last card on the objective should have attacked, as your soldier is now in range.
52:00 I believe you can only have one suppression. I don't think you can be doubly suppressed.
26:55
Alexander got jungle fever!!!
Does your wife know?!
LOL!!!!
John, send me an email at theplayersaid@gmail.com so we can organize genesis at gencon!
Thank you Alexander for demonstrating the game for us. I sense the game will succeed in entertaining us when we see you lose gloriously and still come out smiling (and crying 😢inside) LOL. By the way what is EKIA, enemy KIA? Seems KIA not obvious enough.
Thanks!
the game has a big errata list for the Cards, do u use it or play the orginal game Cards?
We typically play as is, but I also haven't read throug the errata. It's a game for fun so if it's a little imba then I don't take it as seriously as other titles.
The first time I played, we got slaughtered, but this was due to not adjusting the resource total as we lost soldiers.
I've made that mistake more than once too!
So this is the 'advanced' version of Rifles in the Ardennes and Rifles in the Pacific? Or at least more complex.
Technically speaking it's the reverse, in that Rifles in the Pacific is a very simple 30 min, lunch time version of this game. But bare bones they are similar in a lot of their concepts.
is this Marvel Champions: Rise of the Germans Expansion? :) seems nice! thx!
goodie goodie :)
