Right angle attachments/adapters tested for performance under load, use with impact tools, temperature increase under load, maximum torque, and overall durability. Finally, the adapters were dismantled to assess cause of failure. I buy all of the products tested to ensure unbiased results. So, thank you for supporting the channel.

Considering this was a torque test more than anything, I have to say that dewalt flex shaft is perfectly fine when it's general use, such as my last job where I worked on vehicle interiors. A lot easier to deal with a flex shaft over a static position right angle adapter to get hard to reach screws and bolts.

Thank you for having the inset box with a picture of each tool as you went over the graphs! That saves going back for visual checks. I think build quality and the screw and bolt driving are the most useful tests here. The max torque tests are interesting, but you could almost always use a wrench or socket and breaker bar to loosen very tight bolts anywhere a right angle drive would fit.

I think it indicates how much headroom you have with the device. The more over spec it is, the longer it will likely last.

There came a time where I had to use a drill, one of these adaptors, about (3) 12 inch extensions, and a 3/4 spade bit to drill holes through ceiling joists to run a wire for a recessed lighting. My flexible drill bit did nothing. A huge amount of torque was required. At one point, the shaft for the spade bit snapped. Still, the adaptor remained strong.

The Dewalt 60 (or similar) regularly comes as a bonus item in impact bit kits. I got mine in an impact drill & driver kit. It is good for what it is and I've had no issues with it. Since I needed the bits, I consider it a free bonus. And you can regularly find the bit kits with Dewalt 60 on sale for cheaper than the Dewalt 60 by itself. I've been using the Dewalt 60 for drilling wiring holes in the upper and lower wall plates. I finally had the gears give up on me, with the debris preventing the mechanism from turning at all, and had to purchase a replacement, for which I bought the same one again. Drilling seems to be relatively heavy-duty for these adapters, but they still make it infinitely easier to drill 90 degrees to the wood in places where the drill simply won't fit, as opposed to the electrician I hired who used an extremely long straight drill and said "just guess the angle, and try not to miss". In his defense, I think he'd be going through a 90 degree adapter every other day.

I didn’t know these even existed 6 months ago, now I reach for these all the time. I’ve used them to drill holes in tight spaces (with hex keyed bits) tighten and loosen fasteners in places that would usually require an extensive amount of time to get to otherwise. Probably the most useful is the screws that hold on the wheel well of Chevy Silverados when we need to remove a bumper.

The flex shaft Dewalt can be a sketchy situation if you don't have a good hold on that head and you're drilling. I was using it to do electrical work and drill 1/2" holes in wall headers where the roof made it a hard to reach area. If you're not holding on to that head it will kink and spin the whole thing. The all metal fixed version is much easier to control in awkward positions where you're likely using these.

@@ProjectFarm to add to this idea, I'd like to see which adapters have the least play (for example, turning carb adjustment screws in hard to reach places, which requires accuracy and little slop), and if there's any difference in ability to drive/remove hard to reach hardware (I break lots of exhaust manifold studs that are hard to reach). Drive some screws behind an obstacle and see which adapters are more likely to cause cam out?

I've been using the Milwaukee 8510 for years now and it's a real workhorse. I have no fears throwing a 1-1/2-in spade bit in it and drilling through pine, poplar or oak joists or beams. The adjustable handle is prone to coming loose, so you have to be careful storing it in your pocket and walking around. I've lost parts on it that way when the screw handle came out and the adjustment pieces scattered around. This is definitely a case of "you get what you pay for."

@Ross Radford In soft studs you should be able to drill 3/4 inch holes all day long. The only thing you need to be careful of is hitting nails. That can cause the drill to twist in unexpected way and can be dangerous (I got my finger jammed really hard between a stud and the drill once when the whole thing twisted and locked up on my finger). It's actually safer to drill with an impact since it won't twist when the bit jams.

Curious as to how much difference a generous helping of quality grease would make. That DW60 was quite impressive! I’d wager that the difference in thermal mass between each tool renders the temperature test to be almost useless. That huge chunk of steel on that Milwaukee would require a lot of heat to change much. The lug nut test told me all I need to know though! I’ve used an older version Milescraft for years, but it seems I have been treating it a lot more delicately than necessary. I’m going to have to get a DW60 and flog on it like it owes me money! I never dreamed those things could take that much abuse.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the temp test IS useful even with the thermal mass difference. I think this because it is showing off how well a tool can dissipate or transfer heat. A big thick piece of metal can absorb more energy or heat cooling down the gears even more. There is the downside of it holding all that heat longer, so it won't cool down as fast if you do get it too hot

I bought two of the Milwaukee 8510 for the nominal price here in Canada, but I regret my decision - it is overweight and bulky for its designed purpose..... when do you need to drive in 50+ 3/8" lags at 90deg in under 30 mins????
As an HVAC contractor I would much have rather bought the 2390 had it been offered......
Now I'm pretty much giving away "useless weight" to whoever wants it ..

I don't need to be lugging around that extra useless metal, especially up and down on commercial rooftop ladders, in the middle of a winter storm!!
I like Milwaukee power tools, but some of their stuff is useless/overbuilt/crap

I highly value your tools testing. I've been considering one of these tools and you have helped me make a better decision. Thank you

I've been using the same milwaukee 8510 for 6 years now. I've seen coworkers continue to buy the dewalt in every style, because they are cheaper. If you use 90's often get the milwaukee 8510, it might cost more than the others. But you won't have to replace it.

Bought the Dewalt 60 right before Black Friday with a bit kit for $15. Great deal.
Last week I drilled three dozen holes (maybe 5-6 at a time) with a 1” self feeding paddle bit through 2x joists. No problem. It got warm and I was wondering how close I was taking it to it’s breaking point. Seems like I was ok.

I just picked up that same kit at HD about 6 hours ago. $15 bucks well spent!

I did too. - Surprisingly, the Dewalt 60 itself doesn't have the model # on it. I just got it out to look at it for these tests.

that's how I blew mine apart, I won't ever get another one. I'll stay with my 20 yo 8510 till it dies then replace it with another.

@@UpInYourFeelings Half the trouble with admiring the ones that are 20 yrs old, is that "they don't make 'em like they used to". :) When I was in the market for a floor jack, I started with eBay and Craigslist, because I wanted one that was old and durable. I wound up just buying a new one that was rated for double the workload I needed it for, because everyone with a good old one is smart enough to hang on to it.

"before the gears got into a disagreement" ... Your commentary on that last test was brilliant!
