you can use Autocad and set the scale to the scale google earth shows at the bottom right corner. you can create the cone easily and just rotate as you go, one file and you just go snap a pic of the course you want, set the scale and you are good to start placing cones.i think it could save you a lot of time. great video!
This is a great video. When you choose the three cone numbers (300-270-240), is that based on average total distance of the 3 longest clubs (in order to customize)?
Yes but really trying to give a visual example of whether to choose driver, 3 wood or 5 wood. If you scale the cone up or down based on your driver length, then it generally will scale down for the lesser clubs.
Did you ever get a chance to post the follow-up video you'd mentioned below? Also do you have to set up the distances for each course and then add the overlay and scale it? I wish there's a way that once the cone is scaled within the system you could copy it and paste it into a different course at a different location. I was lazy so I dragged mine through three states 😂
Really liked that video. I made a driving wedge graphic where the tee point is in the centre of the image. ie. the tee pixel roughly is half the width and height of the whole image, so when you rotate, it rotates around the axis. I'll upload it to Dropbox if you're interested. I've also made one it to include Driver, 3w and 3i (distance and lateral dispersion) from the tee so I can see in one image what all three clubs could potentially do. I also made a 5 degree wedge for irons to see if at full green width, what is the distance to where you can aim centre of the green and still have a good chance to hit it. This works off Peter Thompsons strategy of working out the hole backwards. This visualisation of strategy is truly a big learning moment for me, thanks for your work.Much appreciated!

Quick question on the image overly altitude: in order to get the cone to remain stationary (not "drift" as you zoom in & out), it seems to need to be anchored to ground level. However, parts of the cone are then obscured by trees and such...how did you solve for this?
Yes. Right click on overlay in left hand section and select properties. In properties, you can find altitude and clamp it to the ground. Once you have the first one positioned, copy and paste that version.
I’m in the process of making an addendum to that video with all the new stuff I’m doing with it. However, one of my juniors just qualified for the US Am at Pinehurst and we are busy. :)

Robert, the cones are only a representation of the natural dispersion (PGA Tour) of a 300 yard drive. This is to be used as a reference to know which direction to hit it and where it will typically land based on your normal length
The principles are brilliant. The presentation or communication of DECADE needs to become easier to digest and use, for it to be truly useful.

Had a similar issue. Google Earth was inserting the image way above the course I was trying to do. Found the image once I zoomed way out.
Can you do this on iPad?
