If you're new to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the white belt division can be a daunting experience, with a wide range of skill levels and competition styles.

White belt - most people are spamming dela riva and x gaurd. You probably have good DR and X defense, but if you have like a butterfly game ready, that's probably going to be really good. Also in passing have a way to pass the butterfly hook - body lock, float pass, over under, whatever. This will carry you.

Did my first comp last weekend. Felt like crying afterwards and got the guys to give me a hug😅. I think it's helped my training, like made me more aggressive. Last rounds the guy I was with said something about me being in competition mode. Definitely a different feel.

my first tournament I found out your adrenaline goes crazy. I escaped a DEEP guillotine and didn't feel it in the moment but couldn't turn my head to the right for 2 days after. my forearms in the moment werent tired, then 2 minutes after I was like holy shit I can't even make a fist. I also forgot every single move I knew and just ended up in side control/knee on belly for the entire match after 2 minutes of white belt light heavyweight wrestling (neither of us knew a single takedown)

That is totally in line with how it goes for so many people, myself included. Congratulations to you for getting out there and putting it on the line! I hope you can get some improvements in your game and some good memories as a result.

First comp this Saturday. going in with a rib injury which sucks because I’ve managed to stay injury free up until I book my first comp! But I’m looking forward to it as a big learning experience!

@@lennieleng9679 accidents happen as long as you dont feel like their was malicious intent behind it these things happen I wouldnt compete id let your elbow chill for about 2 weeks I had something similar happen and I went in for xrays and they couldnt see anything as it was probably tendon or ligament damage. Id get it checked out if you feel like somethings wrong but you should be pretty close to 100% this time next month

How many months do you recommend someone to train before they sign up for a tournament?

I think you should know a few sweeps and at least a submission from most major positions because you never know where you'll end up
