I grew up in South Wales and always went to Cardiff to spot - wish I'd gone to Newport a bit more and travelled to some other locations. I still can't get used to seeing the overhead wires in Cardiff 🙂 I spent a lot of time in MkIIIs between Cardiff and Sheffield. Probably the best coach ever for long distance travel in the UK. I remember the HSTs being introduced and being taken up to London for my birthday - always remember overtaking a 50 which had left Paddington about 5-10 mins before we did. Really nice videography. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
Just brilliant Les, plenty of HSts and some well loaded steel trains. The TFW 67s were a good catch to. Mind you the way that rain was coming down on occasions it could have been a different story. Thanks for sharing and keep well. Colin.
Great to see you in my neck of the woods Les and what a lot of Castle class HSTs ! Very enjoyable video. My late friend Bryn Davies used to spend a lot of time there at Newport and there is a plaque on one of the benches in his memory.
Good to see you back at your old haunt Les. I looked for myself on platform 2 but you cut it off to Cardiff before I got there. Everything I saw there was pretty mundane compared to what you got. Good video. David.
Thanks! I spent 35 years living in South Wales though slowly losing interest in the modern railway until retirement. Newport especially has been a favourite location.
Fantastic video Les some awesome filming there , love the tones from the H S T driver they were epic , certainly a different venue to the citidal matey . Isww tfw has still got some 153s knocking about and who can blame them as they are passed for P R M passengers great stuff some of that zooming towards the tunnel were awesome , thanks for sharing take care Les catch your next one a t b Syd👍
I really liked that plasma-themed GW livery. Ahhh, well... life moves on if not always forwards. Great assortment and with a lot of passengers. I know you met Tim Dowd while there, and I swear I saw him on a different platform while you were filming. It's amazing that 2 people meet int he UK, and I have met them both. Small world! Cheers!
Thanks Anthony. It was an interesting livery. Great Western took several steps back adopting that sober green rather than something modern. I'd dropped a few hints to Tim that I'd be down in Newport but actually saw him 'running' along a platform when my train arrived in Cardiff.
Where would Newport be without the curves at each end and the tunnels. Perfect for you and your zoom. Loved it Leslie, some great footage there. A total contrast to what you get at Carlisle. All the best.
That was quite a trip for you. There sound to be some musical drivers down there LOL Sad to hear the HST could be no more soon especially after the costly refurbishment of them. It has come about due to the accident in Scotland so I guess they will all be going before long. On a brighter note at least the MK4 stock is not going the same way yet.
Hi Les Another great video and different to the Carlisle ones, with different types of freight and passenger stock etc, I like those steel coil trains and the GWR HST's are bowing out soon (well over the next 12 months or so). Thanks
hi Les what a great video its a shame you couldn't leave the rain at Carlisle there was noisy drivers down there you dont hear that much over here seemed strange to see some of the LNER units running around anyway look forward to your next video please stay safe
Thanks. The rain seemed a lot worse. The horns were for some young enthusiasts who apparently video such things and are known to the drivers. No LNER down there but they had 800 sets before the LNER Azumas

Thanks! I remember when Mk3s were introduced (on the WCML) totally right for the job. Newport would have been amazing to watch trains back then.

Thanks Colin. Some of those showers at Cardiff were heavy!
Superb Les, great change of location, really enjoyed that.
Thanks Bob
Good to see 37s and hst in action at a station I never been to yet
Thanks
You do great videos. Keep them coming.
Thanks! Much appreciated
Cheers Les....

Thanks. It was a return visit as I was recording there a couple of years ago until I moved up here.

I thought we might have overlapped but looks like I left just before you arrived.
Beautiful Leslie 😊
Thanks Jorge
Great video Les. I spent many happy hours trainspotting there at my home town station as a youngster.

Love the musical whistle
Good isn't it!
Fantastic footage again Les and awesome tones from the 43s
Thanks. I think some of the enthusiasts on the stations are known to some drivers as asking for tones.
Another great selection Les well done mate 👍
Thanks !

Thanks Tim. What caught me out though was I'd forgotten how fast the freight goes through especially from the east.

Indeed. I'm not sure how fast they are being withdrawn )I heard anything between a month and a year)
@@LeslieGilpinRailways I hope it will not be so soon but did see by the end of 2023 which sounds more likely to me

Great coverage Leslie, albeit a little sad.
Thanks Andy. Wasn't my intention just circumstances of what I recorded without realising!
Brilliant video Les
Thanks!
Another great day on the lines. Do you live on a train😉😉
Sadly I rarely get the opportunity. Thanks for watching
Just looking at the time the Penzance trains arrive - 5 hrs 20 mins for just over 200 miles?
Yes but just look how many stops it makes! Newport is the 34th stop!
spreading your wings a bit les 66555 pulling sail boat fuel i see
Return to my old haunts for the day! Thanks for watching
👍👍😎
Thanks!
Great coverage 😍👌 Love from => Train Lover Himu
Thanks!
Its a bit stupid we have overhead power and still run diesel trains ...
Well that is true but the wires don't get everywhere sadly.
