I do like Japan, they were great musicians and David Sylvian had a wonderful almost colourful voice. I remember that hairstyle and look, very new romantic :) The Old Grey Whistle Test was a great show!
Nice to see this again, Japan were an alternative to a lot of the New Wave bands at the time originally very influenced by The New York Dolls but morphing into their newer visual style and sound around 1979. Dave Sylvian and Steve Jansen are brothers, Mick Karn (now deceased) was a very unique bassist with his somewhat percussive fretless bass style. In this video is Japanese guitarist Masami Tsuchiya, who’s band Ippu Do was quite successful in Japan. He was standing in following Rob Dean’s departure from the band. Members of Japan also became temporary members of Ippu Do around this time. All of the band members have a large catalogue of solo work and projects with others, David Sylvian in particular has some very worthy albums worth seeking out. God! my head is full of some largely useless trivia!
Most unusual song! Abstract/ funky guitar licks. Hints of Brian Eno:styles. Mega sharp smart suits & outfits! These bands never date. The singer was young enough looking even when he sang that song.
A bit like marmite for most. You either loved them or disliked them. Loved them myself. The drums are a mixture of manually played electronic kit and drum machine
Loved this track and Tin Drum is one of the best albums ever in my mind. The oriental influence just worked so well and the album sold very well. shame it was their last

Rain tree crow album was there last
Line up was them but not a Japan album and sadly got little attention because of that. Ruddy DJ'S 🤣
The complex drumming can be heard much clearer on the album track
Not one of their best tracks imo ,but still good to see after all this time 👍😁
You forgot Massami
