As someone who just got his M8 and has never used LSDJ or a Tracker before, this video is a huge help! Thanks for making it and I look forward to diving into this unique music-making world.
I was like "wait is this the Perfect Circuit guy???" and lo and behold it is! Thanks for this video and your general energy in sharing information! Please keep it up!
I’m intrigued. A friend posted a vague preview of what he was doing with it so I came here to learn more. All I know is that I have a huge selection of sounds and instruments on my computer and I often feel paralyzed by all of the options at my fingertips. A back-to-basics, reliable, portable tool sounds like a great way to change things up. Just not sure if I’m ready to leave the comfort of my box.
Dude thank you so much for this video. Mine should be here in September and I was feeling really intimidated by this, being as it will be my first tracker. This video is super digestible and thorough. Thanks you for making it!
i'm so glad it was helpful! i gotta get my hands on the production hardware myself so i can finish up a few more videos. If you give yourself some time to learn the interface you'll be having hella fun in no time - the M8 was my first *real* tracker experience too !
This is such a great introduction video compare to the one produced by Red Mean Recordings, you actually bothered to explain the interface and buttons and what certain acronym means. Thank you.
Exactly. This is too deep with such a small screen, takes ages to edit stuff. I'd get it if I had no other gear and travel often, but for home use, no. There are ton of synth engines and features, but do you need those synth engines? Most often the answer is no.
@@SimpleTrax I feel where you’re coming from! It’s def apples and oranges though, the M8 might work really well for some people who can get into it’s headspace, And others may just find something like a DAW or other hardware more useful. Personally I like how you can get really interesting things with this system - especially chopping breaks - that I would do totally differently on a daw So I get totally different results, and to me, that’s worth it !
Ok, I’ve seen many times that ppl go to a ‘all wave view’ by pushing a few buttons at once but I can’t seem to figure it out!!! Also I’m running a headless version. Current firmware (2.6) any help is appreciated
Fuck it! I'm saving up for the next round lol 😋 Is it class compliant audio/midi to attach to an elektron device like digitakt or rytm mk II? that seems like a pretty fun time😌
It’s displayed in the lower corner when you power the device on, but idk if there’s a way other than that to display it. I think you can also see what version it is in TY updater -
The m8 destroys the op-1 at so many levels at halve the price I had an op-1 when they were sold for 700 euro's (couple of years ago) , the dsp algoritms sounded like shit I sold it after three weeks This seems like it would be a stayer , the mutable istruments algo's sound glorious
You should show the hardware - not much info where it is shown properly. The side, the back, connections, closeup of screen, comment if it’s well build etc.
This is actually one of the beta units, so it's not really indicative of the final production unit! but i have seen the production units, they're VERY well built, solid, and very sleek, maybe once i get one of my own i'll be able to show it off!
@@soffter I just got mine today and can confirm, the buttons are labeled differently, the audio and midi jacks have swapped sides and the logo has changed.
Touch screen can be used for that ;) And you can plug in almost any midi controller or use a computer to bind any usb device in headless mode, but the touch screen is lightning fast for values if ya need
Wasn't convinced about the M8 Tracker before this video. Now I am even less. 10 Minutes of clicking-sounds and numbers on a screen before the first real sound comes out of this thing. (Even if the sounds are really good.) Thank you @soffter. Good video. Not your fault. But to me it appears that the only advantage (over an polyend tracker for example) is that it is small and that is simply not enough for the price and the workflow that looks much more like programming a mars rover than making music.
The M8 is actually insane for the price. Portable standalone that can do so much. Don't mind this video, trackers are actually incredibly fast to work with
Chaotic walkthrough - one does not understand anything. Also as a person that knows trackers. Have stopped watching it after 10 minutes. You should think about what and how to introduce things to the public.
There were a few hiccups and it's not on the same standard as loopop, but the vid is definitely more thought out and structured than some of the university video lectures I've seen (and regrettably paid for) in my life. ;) The style of tracker software writted for M8 is based quite heavily on LSDJ, so it might be worth checking some videos or web docs about that software if you're interested. Happy music making!
The funniest of all the M8 videos.

Awesome! thanks man! enjoy the M8 it's such a deep and rewarding device!
I saw an M8 on eBay last week with the same “Fuck it tiny rat” sticker in the same spot. Though it was a newer model.
that's wild! I gave out a few of those stickers to a few m8 users ages ago !
I was like "wait is this the Perfect Circuit guy???" and lo and behold it is!

Best part of this video for me is the “Talkin’ a lot, talkin’ real fast,” self assessment at 11:10. I’m dying. 🤣
Lol I forget to breathe ! 🤪
This thing is so intriguing.
Bro I need this thing so bad omg I’ve never wanted a piece of equipment so bad
This is the video I was hoping was going to get made by someone. Fantastic first look! Can’t wait to order mine when they become available
Glad it was helpful!

"Talking a lot, talking real fast" I related hard
Very helpful! Will be receiving mine next week… The manual looks very detailed but also thick and don’t have that much time!
Wow! Thanks! For a review that we can read this tiny screen!
Nice walkthrough 👍🏻 been eagerly awaiting the M8. hope to get my hands on one someday 😬
Hipster layout on point
ooh - i like 00 and ff for empty and cut defaults. good idea.
Just ordered mine today woooooooo

@@Ant_FGC how was it
@@Slimeyyvr I still suck ass but it's pretty fucking great
Synth Envelopes. "Just fun on a bun". My sentiments exactly.
Brilliant video, thank you
"fuck it, tiny rat"
lmao
Big up

awh thanks! RMR's style is certainly different, good to have options! :)
Idk why you're concerned with spoiling it for us--I don't have one lol. thats why i'm watching this
cool coaster - are we neighbors? I just ordered one of these bad boys and I'm soooooooo excited
haha! i used to work at northbound a few years back ! i'm in LA now tho
great easy to understand video ! thanks
Great vid bro. Nice wannn 🔥
I wanted this but feel like the polyend be better for a first time tracker
big big screen is appealing lol

Polyend Tracker is definitely better if you're new to trackers. Both fantastic machines

all four directional buttons at the same time ;)
Challenge: make a track with the “pop, pop, pop” and the deep “it’s fucking sick!” at around the 3:46 mark.
Great stuff, made it a lot less intimidating
can you use this as an external effects unit with a dj mixer?
you absolutely can! the FX word as sends and are assignable to the touchscreen ;)
@@soffter if it doesnt bother you could you please make a video about that?
Great overview, thank you 👍

you mean the cable?
Yes
Is it audio monitoring
And whatever it is do you have to use it

I think I might be able to orientate myself through the device now, thanks! :)
After 5min using this thing on a plane, people start killing you cuz of the clicky tactile buttons...
lol! so true that on the production run they're clickless!
Change out the switches for soft ones. Simple. :)

@@soffter Nice!
Is this a dedicated unit that runs Little Piggy Tracker? The interface looks a lot like it.
it's the dirty wave M8 ~ it runs a custom made tracker software that's super powerful
Why doesn't it have 1 knob for data entry?
Touch screen can be used for that ;)
And you can plug in almost any midi controller or use a computer to bind any usb device in headless mode, but the touch screen is lightning fast for values if ya need
