I remember going there when I was young on vacation with my family. The water seemed alot lower back then, It must have been 20 years or so ago.
The rain probably accumulates since the bottom is solid rock
@@TrippyFood thanks for the reply
@@MrUberguber Thanks for watching!
I've been there
It's kind of a creepy place, isn't it?
Hi silver fox 😎 This is interesting. Kinda scary at the same time. If the water is toxic to birds, do we know if it poses a threat to humans ? Is it safe to be there breathing in the air ?! And if so, has this been proven & by what means ? I don't think I'd wanna be near there, just in case. I'm gonna check out the links you've posted, thank you. I've never heard of this place before. The "tunnel" that you walked through to reach the overlook reminds me of the near death experience "bright light tunnels".... Did it you ? Which is kinda scary....Nice video silver fox ! Take care ! ❤️
1WickedAngel1 the tunnel for me was like something you’d go through in an amusement park. They say it’s safe if you stay on the platform, but they don’t give you access even to the earth next to the platform. They don’t even sell items from the mind at the gift shop because of the toxicity. It’s a fun visit f you’re in the area...
Trippy Food Hello again silver fox 😎 . Thanks for Ur response. Well, if I'm ever in the area lol Ya never know ! It's definitely interesting. Take care & God bless. 💛
It is safe to breath and when the water gets to its mas they are gonna start curing it so it doesn’t flood
It kills everything ☠☠☠☠☠
🙄 when they swim in it but that’s blocked off
So, how acidic are we talkin'? Have people gone swimming in this thing?
Lisa they don’t let you anywhere near it. It would probably kill you (not dissolve you, but certainly poison you, but I’m no chemist)
The pit / mine has been in existence since about 1910 or so...
David Bradley but only filled with water since the 80s, correct?
@@TrippyFood correct! The original town of Butte was above where the pit is now.. When my dad was a kid in Butte he said he would walk to school and there sometimes would be a hole where a car used to be parked, or worse a house.... So the town had to be abandoned and move to where it is now. Also, notice that there are no trees growing anywhere close. An entire forest was cut down and stolen by the Berkeley pit company and now the arsenic in the soil is so bad that trees don't grow in the soil around butte anymore. You can thank Queen Beatrice and her son William Randolph Hurst!
David Bradley thank you for the update!
