Talk Talk is way underrated. Their last two albums were departures, more jazzy and ambient, with the last album being experimental without any commercial considerations. And both albums pretty great in my opinion. Love this band.

Mark Hollis and Talk Talk really evolved over the course of their careers. These first hits were their own brand of '80s synth pop, but on this album (The Colour of Spring) you could hear their trend toward more atmospheric and organic songs. "I Believe in You" from Spirit of Eden is a later track you should check out.
Gary Brooker passed today, Procol Harums lead man , Grand Hotel , well worth a listen, even if you dont present it. He was a great song writer , Salty dog is gone. RIP

One of my all-time favourite synth pop bands of the 1980ies. Their sound was so special, and the tone of Mark's voice ... oh man! So good. "Such a shame" and "Happiness es easy" are my favourite songs. I saw them life in the late '80ies - an evening to remember, definitely.
I deeply regret not going to see them live back in the day. They're still one of my favourite bands. I'll just have to make do with watching the Montreux dvd again.

However, now that you have reacted to two amazing songs I hope that you will continue to react to Talk Talk. I believe Paul Webb did the background vocals, if not please correct me. Talk Talk for me personally, is one of the greatest bands which sadly as everyone has noted is completely underrated. So it gives me great pleasure that a young man of your generation is reacting to them. I am impressed that you remembered his name and that you reacted to “It’s My Life”. I have so many favorites but I high recommend “Such A Shame”, “Dumdumgirl”, “Renee” and “Give it Up”. The original album cover of “Colour of Spring” where this song comes from has butterflies. Bought this on limited edition 7 inch and double pack 12 inch on day of release. Liked the a side and turned over to the b side ' It's getting late in the evening' . Oh my god , like nothing before and since ,still my favourite piece of music ever. ' Late in the evening' was bumped from the Colour of Spring as EMI said they needed a ' hit' to market the album. And Life's what you make it was hurriedly recorded.

You need to listen to "Give It Up", "Talk Talk", "Today", "My Foolish Friend", Such a Shame", "Living in Another World", "Dum Dum Girl",...They are all absolutely amazing specially "Give It Up" and your best watching and listening to the concert 'Live at Montreux 1986' they play all the best songs and most songs are extended and the band specially Mark Hollis give incredible performances..!! I guarantee you'll absolutely love it 😀 Definitely listen to "It's My Life" and "Life's What You Make It" off the concert each song lasts a few minutes longer than the studio version's and are just mind-blowing

"Such a shame" and "It's my life" were their most accesible songs but they always experimented with pop, jazz, percussions and Mark Hollis always defined himself as a painter and experimenter more than a singer. He died young and left a legacy. Try " Myrrhman" or "Happiness is easy" next.

For another song in a similar vein, go with "Living in Another World". Any stuff later than this will be COMPLETELY different, much more experimental. Anything before this will be slightly more formulaic 80s pop, still very good though.
Paul Webb, the bassist, is the backing vocalist. Interesting trivia you’ll like: Tim Friese-Green the producer had a drum pattern loosely based on Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill.
Mark Hollis was a genius. Talk Talk never received the recognition they deserved because of their label. EMI pushed Duran Duran with everything they had. There is no doubt that Hollis and Friese-Green were better song writers than DD and TT were also better musicians. But the pretty boys received all the backing. Some things never change.
Brilliant comment. I was a kid of this music I'm 52 now. And I did and do like DD.. But only as a older and wiser dude, do I know how much better these guys were that a LOT of bands. I was gutted when mark died. Him, prince and absolutely more than anyone Bowie really got to me.. Oh I have to add my all time number one music hero Chris Cornell in there too. I'll never get over him. But we lose these guys and only then we realise how great they are.. And always will be...🙏💙
80s was the begging of selling pop music and idols. Even though I'm a big fan of Talk Talk I reccomend you check Duran Duran live. Much better than any nowadays pop band . Talk Talk now are their own league. I dont care normally for celebrities but Marc Hollis death was something that brought me down. When your youth heroes are dying. RIP Mark.

The core group in Talk Talk is: Mark Hollis, vocals, guitar, piano, & composition; Paul Webb, bass; Lee Harris, drums. Looks like Webb is one of the backup singers on this. Don't know who else is (I don't think Harris did vocals.) They also worked with other musicians frequently, especially in concerts, such as guitarist John Turnbull; Ian Curnow on synth; and Tim Friese-Greene, keyboards & composition (worked with Mark on many songs). In their concerts on youtube, I've seen that backup vocals were provided by Webb and Turnbull. BTW - some of their songs in concert are better than the album version.

Paul Webb doing backing vocals in the background simply put his own identity and brand of the 80's in this song, it's impressive how a simple backing vocal makes a great song! Do you agree ?
That underlying piano riff =WILL= get stuck in your head, just like It’s My Life did. It’s been bouncing around in my skull since about 1989.
"Such a shame" and "It's my life" were their most accesible songs but they always experimented with pop, jazz, percussions and Mark Hollis always defined himself as a painter and experimenter more than a singer. He died young and left a legacy. Try " Myrrhman" or "Happiness is easy" next.
Paul Webb- bass and Backing Vocals. I had this song on a mixtape with Peter Gabriel- I Have the Touch, after it, and Thomas Dolby- One of our Submarines......before, and it was a favorite trio for years.

For another song in a similar vein, go with "Living in Another World". Any stuff later than this will be COMPLETELY different, much more experimental. Anything before this will be slightly more formulaic 80s pop, still very good though.
Paul Webb, the bassist, is the backing vocalist. Interesting trivia you’ll like: Tim Friese-Green the producer had a drum pattern loosely based on Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill.
Mark Hollis was a genius. Talk Talk never received the recognition they deserved because of their label. EMI pushed Duran Duran with everything they had. There is no doubt that Hollis and Friese-Green were better song writers than DD and TT were also better musicians. But the pretty boys received all the backing. Some things never change.

And I did and do like DD..
But only as a older and wiser dude, do I know how much better these guys were that a LOT of bands.
I was gutted when mark died.

Oh I have to add my all time number one music hero Chris Cornell in there too. I'll never get over him.

80s was the begging of selling pop music and idols. Even though I'm a big fan of Talk Talk I reccomend you check Duran Duran live. Much better than any nowadays pop band . Talk Talk now are their own league. I dont care normally for celebrities but Marc Hollis death was something that brought me down. When your youth heroes are dying. RIP Mark.
A tad unfair. DD are immensely talented songwriters and musicians. They've endured carping comments about being just pretty boys for too long.

The core group in Talk Talk is: Mark Hollis, vocals, guitar, piano, & composition; Paul Webb, bass; Lee Harris, drums.
Looks like Webb is one of the backup singers on this. Don't know who else is (I don't think Harris did vocals.)
They also worked with other musicians frequently, especially in concerts, such as guitarist John Turnbull; Ian Curnow on synth; and Tim Friese-Greene, keyboards & composition (worked with Mark on many songs).
In their concerts on youtube, I've seen that backup vocals were provided by Webb and Turnbull.
BTW - some of their songs in concert are better than the album version.
