I'm actually surprise this got a very low score because I actually enjoyed the episode a lot. The only thing I would change is the villain. Should've probably been a younger version of Vilgax since the two had history of beef with each other. And that was before, not counting the end of Omniverse, either of them knew about the Omnitrix's existence.
I too keep this episode in high regard. It's cute. However if you binge watch uaf, I can see how this clutters the watchlist, since nothing happens that moves the plot along. It's nice to see on it's own.
It would have been better if the robot was removed, and it mainly focused on Max and Verdona meeting and just having some dumb, reckless fun. We would see that she hasn't changed all that much, and what originally drew Max to her, and we get to see Max at a younger point in his life when he was more like Ben, impulsive, but loyal. Maybe he isn't kicked out of the Air Force but leaves by his own accord to join the Plumbers to continue to spend time with her, with the flashback ending with him packing to head to the Plumber academy where he asks her if she'll be open for a date when he has a day off, and she just smiles before saying she likes his spark and flies off.
This makes me realize something. We've never seen Max and Verdona interact beyond this episode. Seriously, imagine if Omniverse had an episode of them working together for some case, and they still act love dovey.
Oh yeah.. Verdonna is Ben's grandmother and yet the episode where she is young and met Max.. she left.. so we just.. assume she came back or Max met her again in space for them to conceive? Also.. if it was in space.. Verdonna just let her kid go to Earth and not care? There is just a few things that are confusing...
Yea, like youd think Verdona would have came back to visit once she learned Grandpa was still alive, I think we see her exactly one more time very randomly in UA and that's it, nothing more, she never comes to to try and train Gwen or visit them or anything, despite something like that being an easy way to bring her back for an episode, like man it's disappointing, because Verdona and the Anodites are so fucking cool, but we barely ever hear or especially see them outside of Gwen and her Anoditd form (though I do like that she started using her Anodite abilities more in Omniverse, but they really nerfed the hell out of her so that Ben could still have the spotlight and save the day, which sucked, like I bet the writers have some kind of excuse as to why "Lucky Girl" Gwen couldn't kick everybody's asses in mere moments anytime she appeared, but it still sucks seeing such a powerful character nerfed just so that Ben isn't outshined)

They’d have to do something to make Verdona not the worst character ever first. Also some type of explanation for how the grandkids didn’t even know her name. They seemed shocked they even had a grandma

I always imagined a flash back ep about Max could of been cool if it focused on max and his old crew against young Vilgax like in the classic flash back in secrets Could of squeezed Verdona in their post Vilgax battle if you had to (cause Myaxx is sadly not used again)
I found the episode charming. I agree it was not as interesting as most usual episodes, but I’d more often revisit this one compared to a frustrating watch like Duped.
I legitimately forgot this episode existed and didn't remember anything you brought up about it. If that shows you how badly this went I don't know what does.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the obvious parallel between Young Max and Kevin. To me that was always the point of the episode (although not executed the best especially since Kevin doses off during the story) I feel like this could have been a 2 parter or something that shows how Gwen and Kevin's relationship functions and how it parallels Max and Verdona. Maybe even explaining that Max has a soft spot for Kevin for reminding him of his younger years. I'll agree that storywise it isn't the best episode, same for visually but something about seeing young Max mess with his car to parallel Kevin just makes me happy. They could have done more of that. Maybe have Max tell Gwen earlier in the season that Kevin reminds him of himself as a way to get her to understand that he's not a bad guy or maybe flash to a few other points in time to show Max and Verdona having kids and how Max grows whilst Verdona never changes.
this is like Gwen's average days episode. I actually don't mind this episode. It's certainly not great, but I enjoyed it personally. Even with it's flaws

This episode and Solitary Alignment are interesting writing experiments to see if they could tell a different kind of story in the Ben 10 universe. Here me out. I think this episode should've come before we actually met Verdona. Cut out the parts where Max is telling the story and just frame it as a normal episode. Then have the episode where the Trio meet Verdona and go from there. I feel like it could actually work with setting something up and then paying it off later. So putting this earlier in the series could work.
The real interesting thing I found about this episode (apart from counting as the series' mandatory entry where Ben only transforms into one alien form), is that the energy extractor that the episode's antagonist uses at the end of the episode, resembles the viewing sensor the Martians use in the 1953 film version of War of the Worlds. They even incorporate the heat ray sound effect from the same film, as it powers up!
This is probably the breakdown score i disagree with the most. This is one of my favorite episodes of the season, and i find Max's youth and encounter with Verdona to be super engaging. And yes, i understand wanting the plot to be bigger in scale, but i wouldn't hold that against an episode that can stand on it's own just fine. I will agree that we totally deserved Xylene's story as well Glad to see the breakdowns back. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

This is is a good case of why sometimes it's best to leave things a mystery. Even ignoring how I preferred the original Plumbers as an earth organization that had limited knowledge, the ambiguity and gaps left things to be interesting, and if you're going to replace a mystery with a bland story, then you're just wasting time and effort.

Might as well complain about Max saying goodnight to Verdona
She could be on a planet where it's not night, or one where there's no night at all!
0 for plot and visuals feels a bit harsh. At least a 1.
Damn 0's are harsh
Also, contradictions; Mana and advanced alien technology are *not* supposed to be compatible; remember? ^^;
Unless the technology is level 20+
@@axelnilsson5124 No, 'cause the Omnitrix counts as that and even it's negatively-effected by Mana (see "Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens").
@@alexandriacollins7119 the omnitrix is level 20 technology level 20+ technology is multidimensional such as the naljian destructor or the annihilargh
@@axelnilsson5124 If that was so, *WHY* would they be *after* the Omnitrix?
@@alexandriacollins7119 how would they be able to obtain 20+ level weapons if they are multidimensional? It’s beyond their grasp
The Synthroid has an Amogus on his chest.
a zero for plolt of max past orinal and when you plan releas more 5yl recalibrad or your focus on the final part
I dnt even remember this episode…. When was this a thing? Max’s past??
Oh no, I really like this episode... 🙃
I do have fond memories of this episode. But that's pretty much young Max's courtesy, so this review is pretty spot on.
When you realize that Max and Verdona share no scenes together in the present.
Even the fanfictions I read only feature one of them at the time.
Synthesoid : Your weapons cannot hurt me !
Max beats him with a Crowbar....
That's literally sums up major problem with Ultimate Alien..... Contradicting their own stories.....
It regenerates immediately.
To be fair, all versions of the show does this.
There’s a difference between can’t get hurt and being invulnerable
