    The Fishmaster 196 is one of my favorite boats. A couple of my buddies have one. Not sure about that engine mounted motor. Push with the kicker, steer with the MinnKota is what I and most others do. As far as the livewell, I bleed the fish out in there, and after about 15 minutes, throw them in the cooler on ice. One thing....the livewell lid tends to bounce up and down in rougher water, causing the water to splash out. Not sure why Starcraft hasn't figured out a way to improve that, but otherwise a sweet boat!! Congrats and looking forward to seeing it on the water.

      Thanks. Yeah I plan to start bleeding the fish out as well. Thanks for the tip on that and water splashing out on bumpy trips.

      I finally got 8 cisco black aluminum rod holders but other than that nothing new. The few times that I have been out has been really nice although I'm still working on getting the 9.9 kicker starter. It has click over and ran for like 30 seconds and then shuts off. The last time I was out it didn't even click over. I actually used the engine mount motor to troll some and it was very nice. In the next few times I get out I need to try out the livewell, however people are saying that it tends to spill water over at times. Thanks for checking in on me.

    Just watched the rest of your videos. Amazing to see how much your son grew up from one year to the next. You guys always have a good time fishing with family and that is what it is all about. I only have one suggestion, and that is to get a couple of those plastic vice grips on your knew boat. Those things have saved me from getting treble hooks stuck in my hand more then I can count. I cringe every time I see you put your hand in the net when using cranks. lol
    That is how I got my 1st treble in my thumb a couple of years ago. Now I won't put my hand anywhere near the net with out putting the grips in the walleyes mouth. lol KEEP FISHIN

    Great Ne.w Ride Captain! Congratulations Some guides that I know use that main motor electric to push the boat and front one to steer but with a gas kicker really don't need it and adds weight to your boat I would pull that and any batteries and sell them. Just imho too much added weight. Have a lot of ideas on how to set up boat. Like push the rod holders further forward and set up a "meat seat" up front. Dang can you keep the old boat reg numbers always thought it was a DL down low boat.

    • @KeepFishing
      @KeepFishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks. I definitely have a lot of set up options with this boat so I will be changing and adjusting things as needed. I purchased this boat out of state so I needed to remove the old boat numbers so that is why they are missing.

    Beautiful boat! I love the rear splash well design with the seats. I have a 01 Starcraft Pro Elite 2000. Absolute fishing machine and cuts the rough water amazingly. Very deep hull. 1 small livewell in back, but mainly use the 50 gal bow livewell. I Never fished Erie, yet, but being from WI I fish the Bay of Green Bay alot. We throw 2 large bags of ice in the bow livewell.. I fill the livewell once and re circulate all day keeping the fish alive. At the end we bleed them put, drain live well, fill back up to submerg fish and dump 1 more bag of ice in when we leave a gas station. That's the way I do it and it works good. Others do it differently.

    • @KeepFishing

      Thanks. Starcraft boats are amazing. Thanks so much for sharing how you use your livewell. I am more than likely going to follow exactly what you said for how you use your livewell. Hopefully at some point you can fish lake erie. I have heard that the walleye fishing in WI is really nice.

    In cooler temps (80 and below), I use the livewell as livewell - but keep an eye out for dead fish - I have a small cooler on board that if they die, they go in there.
    Perch will tend to die quicker than walleye. I can usually go out for 4-6 hours and have the walleye still alive - I bleed them right before motoring in then throw in big cooler in truck.

    • @KeepFishing

    That boat would be considered a Tournament style boat and they would use the live well to keep legal size fish alive so they could cull the smaller fish after catching larger ones. Nice boat.

    I would still bring a cooler for your fish. I would throw some ice in your live well for use as a cooler, that way you can keep your drinks and snacks free from fish smell, lol ..

  • @brianlemaster2101
    @brianlemaster2101 3 роки тому +1

    I like your boat. Myself I would use your live well with ice instead of water. My experience with live wells is constantly changing water to keep them alive and end mostly with dead fish anyway. The minnkota electric motors on your outboard motor could possibly be a good thing. Some people use them to troll with and steering it with your outboard steering wheel. It could be used along with your trolling motor up front. Also people use them on smaller lakes where they don't allow powered motors, electric only. You have several options with what you have available in that boat. But I want to give a friendly advise on how much battery is needed for the one on your outboard. It sucks when your out of battery and don't have enough to start your main motor. Thats why you have two battery switches and what 4 to 5 batteries. Hope this helps.

    • @KeepFishing
      @KeepFishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks. I appreciate the tips for the livewell. I figured I could try using the engine mount trolling motor on some smaller lakes when I am shallow. One thing I also need to figure out is which of the batteries is for all of my electronic devices. Gotta admit this will be an ongoing learning experience. Again thanks for the helpful tips.

Some guys wait to end of trip like in this video but when your fishing warm water it is best to do it as soon as you decide to keep on. ua-cam.com/video/aFFJtbuYHzs/v-deo.html Also can use the livewell as storage and bleed the fish on a rope over the side to keep the mess there.
