- This video is a follow up of the video all about Air plants (Tillandsias). Tillandsias are easy to mount. For this project you will need fishing line (1 pound test is fine), a cyanoacrylate glue such as E6000, cork, a screw eye if you plan to hang your creation and air plants. Mounted Tillandsias make excellent gifts and are very easy to care for.
The cork and the air plants you will be using must be absolutely dry before mounting. When mounting multiple air plants, the plants should be similar in their horticultural care requirements. Thin leaved Tillandsias require more watering than the thicker leaved ones, so thin leaved Tillandsias should be mounted separately from the thicker varieties.
How many Tillandsias you mount is dependent on the size of the cork you are using. You could mount many Tillandsias on a very large piece of cork, or a few on a smaller piece of cork.
When using a large amount of Tillandsias on a large piece of cork, the best method is to use glue. When mounting a smaller amount the fishing line gives beneficial additional support.
Mounted Tillandsias can either be displayed flat, or hung on a wall. Remember to display the Tillandsias in bright filtered light. An East or West exposure works best. They should never be displayed in full sun. For more information on Tillandsia care, watch the other video on Tillandsias.
Cork is available from orchidslovecork.com and Tillandsias are available from airsupplyco.com. Both sites are excellent and customer support is exceptional.
Thank you for this great idea. I am so glad I found you!
Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate it.
Very informative video! Thank you!
Thank you for your feedback. I have two workshops, one in July and one in August for the local Senior Centers in my area. I enjoy working with that age group as I am one of them!
I just hang on orange tree - do OK ….
And I have 2 baskets hang under Asian Magnolia tree….
I spay water twice a day.
You don't need to spray every day unless your home is very dry. Three times a week is fine. Also soak in water for 20 to 30 minutes once a week preferably in the morning.
Nice! Can it also be done with a little hot glue?
No, do not use hot glue. You need to use a cyanoacrylate type glue such as the brand name E6000 mentioned in the video. This is available on Amazon.
Good morning I am from Srilanka can you please let me know what is glu you used to fix the airplants on the cork.
Any cyanoacrylate glue that is an all weather adhesive will work just fine. E6000 plus is the glue I used in the video and it is available from Amazon.com. Only a very small amount of the glue is necessary.
