Another great collection. It's amazing how tastes change isn't it? For their time, the Bourne fight scenes were considered awesome, but now we expect more distant camerawork so we can see the full-body moves and takes long enough to show that the actor/stuntman knows what he's doing. The Bourne fight here shows a lot of creativity in terms of improvised weapons and get a good sense of the confined space they're in, but it's just shot SO BADLY by today's standards that it doesn't work at all.
That’s exactly what I was thinking, I remembered people living Taken and the Borne trilogy but they do not hold up whatsoever. Long shots of fight scenes with few jump cuts and actually being able to see the action is just objectively so much better.
The problem isn’t with the Bourne scenes themselves it is that everybody started doing it, like bullet time from the matrix movies All of the sudden every hack out there decided they had to have a bullet time scene too. so the shaky cam cut scene became the norm, and when it’s everywhere it’s annoying. In fact it got so bad, I’ve got a friend that these scenes fuck with his equilibrium, And he often spends the rest of the film trying not to puke. most people realized they enjoy a well choreographed fight scene over shaky cutscene cam ones, and who do we have to thank for bringing back the choreographed fight scene? John fucking Wick AKA baba Yaga.
I get movie fight scenes are obviously exaggerated but it never fails to amaze me to see how many blows to the head some people can take and it not even slow them down, the assassin fighting Bourne took four direct elbows to the temple and then had his head smashed on a sink, all within a minute
I agree, everytime I see a bourne fight scene now, or any fight with multiple cuts for that matter, I immediately feel biased towards it cause I can't clearly see most of their actions like you stated. When you compare it to some fight scenes like The Raid, you can really appreciate the choreography and the training/time it takes to get beautiful fight sequences
