- I’m back with critiques!!! This is part 1 of a two part critique session. If you would like your work critiqued please leave a link in the comments below. Yes. I know I tend to be long winded. I’m trying to be more succinct with each video I create but there’s just all the things to say!

I take away and agree SO much with this, omigosh. Excellent, truly fabulous points. And one thing that really sticks out regarding the fashion section for me is a complete lack of taste and opinion on account of the photographer. Fashion is a strong, rich artform in and of itself, and some of those gowns are hideous, incidentally precisely the ones that got X'ed out. Either way, there is no universal, cohesive taste in that gallery. A commercial photographer has to shoot what they are hired to do for retailers or designers, TRUE. But it doesn't all have to go in your personal portfolio and brand. On the other hand, so many of the “keepers” in that were truly stunning, high-fashion, fine art style fashion photography that look absolutely jaw-dropping gorgeous, both the composition and the processing… But all of that was completely overshadowed by the tacky ones that stuck out like a sore thumb! I personally like variety, and I don't mind scrolling and scrolling if the images are breathtaking. Lindsay Adler's web gallery is one perfect example for me. I could go through her endless scroll of beauty images all day. Truly mesmerizing. But when a lot of it is “filler” as is the case here, wielding a scythe is so satisfying to watch.
But you REALLY nailed it on the keepers versus losers on that. Definitely have earned me as an avid follower!

Thx Zack! Happy to have you back. you had me laughing and thinking at the same time @ 10:30 if 20 pics won't convince them you can take pictures, you're sure not gonna do it with 71.. :) It's just so hard to kill your own darlings, but a photo editor probably will..

Great critiques Zack. We are all guilty in one way or another of wanting all of our photo "children" being displayed, mostly because of the emotional response they give us from when we created it. Looks like I need to take some time off and clean up my own site! A big thanks for doing this for us viewers at no charge (I feel the need to send coffee money at least!).

Love it! Very funny, very honest. This guy is a good photographer, but he wants (un)consciously to show off on his techniques, sending the message: "I can do anything you like".
Not sure if that works, though... Certainly not if he wraps it all on one page. Clients go for a style, and they would be amazed if they found it on one page of 15 to 20 pics.
But maybe we're wrong, because Altamash means "highly mixed", and that's what he's offering! ;-)

great critique Zach. LESS = MORE. Bigger is always better and tighter/closer to the subject always wins over too wide/far away from the model shots. Looking forward to the series

Made and posted a video on Sunday about fear and failure as an amputee myself, and by chance, being an aspiring photographer myself, happened to see your video this afternoon. Thanks so much for posting this video .... it gave me great comfort to see I’m not on my own here. Also, you opened my eyes to the truth that I also compare myself to other amputees making videos, with many more subs and views, which is really not a wise thing to do. Invariably I feel likes shxx afterward. Nothing gained. You’ve motivated me to do this for myself and those who give me a lot of love on my channel.

That homepage was a mess, let's be honest.
Vik Sandhu Obviously. But let's also be honest that a lot of the fashion stuff really was insanely gorgeous. The “filler” just gets completely in the way of the really good stuff. I find it just as ignorant to not acknowledge that as it is to have such a kerfuffle of non-unified images. I would be shocked if you or myself could capture images half as stunning as many of these.

Have been seeing you post in Twitter for the past few days, glad to see you back on here also. Been a sub of yours since I watched the first 2 minutes of your video "Crop Sensors vs Full Frame :: Crop Or Crap?" back in 2014!!!
What you forgot to mention or ask, is what type of photographer are you? I think he is all over the place with work and not defined what type of work he actually does. Is he the do it all type of photographer, architectual photography, portrait, animal, editorial, wedding, street?
If he is, he should have separate portfolios for each. If Tony Hewitt can be Australian Photographer of the Year in four or five categories, then others can be good in different categories too.
OneEyedPhotographer true, he just needs to organize his work, and probably only show a few (10-15) of the best images in each category.
Really miss watching your content Zack. Excited to see what you have in store for us. This video is just on time as I am planning to make a website (After making my page finally live in social media). Really helpful and informative. Thank you.

It's probably just UA-cam not notifying people of everything … will keep an eye out … nice critique .. looking for that unique style & their own take on things, being unique .. their own punch as you say.
UA-cam doesn't notify everything. If Zack published ten videos in a day, I think people would be notified of three of them. UA-cam has its own channels, I might have seen this in UA-cam Creators.

Zack. How do you feel about showing other work ( real estate, Pet's , e.t.c. ) in separate galleries ( kinda like he did) ?
If the genres of work are similar I think it’s fine. Commercial work can involve everything from portraits to architecture to product. It’s when you start blending different parts of the industries that you may need to have separate web sites or brands. Like weddings and product photography. Those two don’t quite mix. Does that make sense?

The gallery is about you. A realtor isn't going to be professionally interested in your cats and dogs, but probably your architecture will be interesting.

Did the person you are critiquing, asked you to do so? If not why? If you did this to me I would kick your ass! For that person he is happy with his works...who are you to destroy him! maybe that is why you don't have zillions of followers.. Be different..while you are critiquing others you are not creating..stop this! really stop this..If people send you there work to be critiqued than that is different...if they don't ask you for your opinion, it's because they don't wan't it! I have just unsubscribed to your channel!
A lot of the images from 'backstage' would work a lot better in 'Fashion'

Sometimes the youtube algorithm gets it right! It recommended me your "comeback" video on contests earlier today and I subscribed and now this one is also totally captivating and sense-making.
