Well that statement actually aged pretty well. Playing Diablo immortal for me felt like I was playing a watered down version of Diablo 3 where you have to drop a few bucks on every single rift. Fire up D3, unequip all your legendaries, and put 5 dollars through a shredder when you open a rift and you're basically playing Diablo immortal.

You get like 4 rare crests a day for free that have 5% chance of dropping a rank 1 to 2 legendary gem. And you get around 3 legendary crests per month that have a 75% chance of droping a legendary rank 1 gem and only 5% of dropping a rank 5 gem, inside thoose 5% you get 0.05 % chance of it being 5/5 on drop. Max level gems improves your skills and stats a lot and allows you to awaken the armor and make the gear it self much better (i think this part is straight behind a paywall without free alternative). So unless you want to farm 3 times a month + 4 rifts each day around 15 minutes of gameplay per day. His statement is quite accurate.

Diablo Immortal, for what it is isn't a BAD Mobile ARPG. Not at all. A lot of well thought out things. Torchlight: Infinite is ... I can't believe I'm saying this very well done. It could almost be a full blown game. Both, for Mobile games are honestly THE BEST ARPGs for Mobile hands down. They're both enough combined to stop me and hold me over from PoE. Also I love PoE (and hate it lol) it's just PoE IS SOOOOOO Time consuming. It's disgusting sometimes how much time that game sucks up. It's still fun, but just time consuming as hell. All around why can't we enjoy them all? Shit we can play Diablo Immortal while playing PoE lol. We do, in fact have phones haha

Having tried Immortal - this is the GOT Season 8 moment of the franchise. The moment where it doesn't matter how good D4 is - I'll never know, because the IP is dead to me now.
It's a decent mobile game - not sure what you were expecting. The pc port is half-baked sure, and the monetization is insidious. But you can play it for free for something like 20 hours? Then stop. "D4 dead to me" what utter nonsense.

D3 Immortal is a great example of "ooh shiny" marketing. I played till level 6 and was like "the only reason to put up with this kind of gameplay is the story, and while it seems different form regular D3, it also just...felt the same. We aren't even counting the casual dolphins that will buy smaller things and the battle pass. Agreed. I spent a few hundreds in PoE over many many years. If the model is not there to raid your wallet then I'm open to micro transaction. Guild wars 2 is doing it for mmos, Dota 2 (unless it changed since i stopped playing) for mobas and PoE for arpgs. Feel like there's less than 10 true decent business model games in the AAA market. I keep giving shit to RL buddies who are spending non stop in Diablo and other p2w mobile games. They are the problem.. them and the parents not educating their kids on the risks of gambling.

Actually PoE is based off some really old school MMO ideas. They're not the first to do hideouts and skins. Man games back in early 2000s did this. Interesting model, but was never done justice. I feel like PoE does deliver enough that if you're playing why not fill some small gaps in your time. Buy cool shit and as you grown and learn add to the game whenever you want. Not many games can get away with this... these days. Many sell Pay 2 Win gear and mechanics. For example... Fucking Mega Ten online, fun game. They sold gear and clothing, but much of it was just pay to win.... They just needed the game to speak for it's self. PoE Speaks for itself.
You are actually correct. As it would take thousands of dollars to ever reach an endgame build in immortal where buying a decent computer or hell, even just buying a damn nintendo switch as cheap as they are and a copy of diablo 3 is actually a better deal at this point.

@@ReDHaWko don't worry, I know about those, there used to be a gacha game that have a very f2p friendly system that got destroyed by a new board director, they changed the pull rate for top tier character from reasonable to incredibly small, then conpletely removed them from the gacha pool and you have to pay to be able to get one. Thats not all, for one character to be max level/limit break, you need a copy to evolve them into a higher rank and those character start at rank 4 and the max rank is 6, and it get worse, for a character to be able to limit break, you need a copy of them for each level and theres 5 limit break level. So in total you need 9 of the same character to be able to max them and this doesn't include evolve materials, inner trait materials, weapons(a character can have 2 weapon, 2 armour, 1 accessory and an exclusive relic, exclude the relic and accessory, you need mats and copies to evolve the weapon as well, and the weapon will have a substat meter that you need to upgrade which is complete rng, it could give you a +0)

Blizzards games is just horrible these days, if you actually play these kinds of games u would know that path of exile is years ahead of any diablo game.

Hi, League of legends player here. Saw Doublelift play this game, thought it looked cool and I’ve been playing ever since. Played Diablo immortal and it wasn’t that fun f2p so I went back to Path of Exile. Thanks to the Devs for making a cool and relaxing game for me to take a break from the competitiveness of League
I like his view on the metrics, they already know what they compite against in every league and those they see retention not as a contest with those games but as players fidelity.
I find the notion that Diablo Immoral is a slot machine offensive. At least with a slot machine there is a -slim- chance you make your money back, but with Diablo Immoral, all money is just wasted.
He was on the mark with this take. I quit the previous league to play Lost Ark with friends. That hype died and we quit like 2 weeks in and I didn't have to energy to come back to PoE. But this league I hit level 100 for the first time since there weren't any new hype games that grabbed my attention.
I pay between $80-100 for every season I play in POE. I'm happy to pay for games that provide many hours of entertainment. Blizzard couldn't lose any more respect from me - I'm not even interested in Diablo 4 anymore. I'll be sticking with POE and Project Diablo 2, thx.
Seeing all the Diablo Immoral news and then downloading the game just made me want to play PoE instead. Sad: Diablo 1 was my entry into PC gaming, RPG's, even web design to help run a clan. Blizzard guided me into my professional career path, now it means nothing to me.
Some of the PoE devs work near me and iv met them at a local burger shop, they are the nicest people and you couldn't ask for better workers, they love what they do and it really shows.
The worst part for me is the gameplay actually looks pretty good, but Blizzard just couldn't help themselves and had to make the scummiest P2W microtransactions they could. Whatever small hope I had for D4 is completely gone. Guess I'll play D2 until I die
When DI came out and it was shown how bad it was in terms of stealing money from people. I was very thankful POE is the game it is. Is it perfect? No. Are the skins expensive? Yes. But at least it's not DI.
the intentions of chris and ggg are just great. they do not always hit it right, but longterm they figure out the mix between their vision and the community needs.

Blizzard is known to make games that run well though unlike GGG. Even though PoE is a much better game, I'd trust Blizzard more for making a mobile game when we're talking about performance.

Not getting the hate at all. It's a mobile game. I primarily played Marvel Puzzle Quest on my phone for years. Sunk a lot of time into it and a fair bit of $ over the years. It's a time waster. It's not a "game" that I would sit down and sink hours into like any of the previous Diablo titles. It's Diablo "lite" and I'm loving it. I bought the battlepass and have been enjoying figuring it all out. I'm in no rush. It's a free to play mobile game. Wait for Diablo 4 if you want a full Diablo experience. I really don't get it. It's like whining that a macdonalds burger doesn't taste as good as a home cooked burger that you spent an hour making. It's Diablo "lite". What more do you want?
I’m convinced that DI is monetized to the extreme in order to beta test how much they can get away with in D4. So far it’s not looking good based on the sales…my faith in blizzard went from rock bottom to dead with this release
this also encourages other companies to try similar things. Immortal is a serious problem, but if all games become this way i will just quit gaming all together. They think they can force you into paying if everything has microtransactions but people need to maybe find a new hobby if this becomes a trend.

I don't really play poe anymore because I have kids now and the time commitment is just too ridiculous, but holy hell was elden ring an unexpected bomb shell for me. There were other games on my list that I fully anticipated playing and never even touched them solely because of Elden Ring. Even total war Warhammer 3, which released on game pass, didn't get any playtime from me

Correction, D3 does the same thing better on PC specifically. Some people can't afford a PC, or don't have the time to sit down at a PC and play for long periods of time. If you're playing this game purely for the PC port, you're likely going to have an awful time. Purely speaking as a mobile game, it's a very good game (p2w aspects aside).

It's all scaled back for mobile, at what point are you allowed to say it was too far for a mobile game? DI it's arguably the best in it's genre as far as mobile games go on release (ignoring p2w aspects), and easily competes with if not beats other games that have had years of development time/community feedback. That being said, obviously it's just another platform to make money from. Blizzard is a business, they're supposed to make money. My hope (arguably a bit too optimistic but someone has to be) is that those profits will help to make other games like D4 and future WoW expansions better games where we don't have to deal with these things since they're getting other revenue streams from things like DI.

GGG and PoE are one of the last hopes for gaming. They have their MTXs… and some of it makes the game “easier”, but it’s far from pay2win. PoE is a fantastic game. Super in-depth and tons of content. The freedom of class design is unmatched by any game.
I hate the sentiment around the new mtx. They just want to make cool looking mtx so that people can customize nearly everything about their characters, but the moment they do: "VISIBILITY IS HIGHER, PAY TO WIN TRASH!!!!!"
He made good points about people quitting to go try out Lost Ark and Elden Ring, while acknowledging that Diablo Immortal would be nothing but a huge waste of time (and potentially money). If I had more spare time, I would love to give PoE another go - there's a couple of builds I want to try out.

D3 Immortal is a great example of "ooh shiny" marketing. I played till level 6 and was like "the only reason to put up with this kind of gameplay is the story, and while it seems different form regular D3, it also just...felt the same.

PoE is literally one of the best F2P models I've even seen. I usually refuse to pay money for F2P games, but I actually forked out cash for stuff in PoE because I believe the devs actually deserved it.

Actually PoE is based off some really old school MMO ideas.
They're not the first to do hideouts and skins. Man games back in early 2000s did this. Interesting model, but was never done justice.

@@ReDHaWko don't worry, I know about those, there used to be a gacha game that have a very f2p friendly system that got destroyed by a new board director, they changed the pull rate for top tier character from reasonable to incredibly small, then conpletely removed them from the gacha pool and you have to pay to be able to get one. Thats not all, for one character to be max level/limit break, you need a copy to evolve them into a higher rank and those character start at rank 4 and the max rank is 6, and it get worse, for a character to be able to limit break, you need a copy of them for each level and theres 5 limit break level. So in total you need 9 of the same character to be able to max them and this doesn't include evolve materials, inner trait materials, weapons(a character can have 2 weapon, 2 armour, 1 accessory and an exclusive relic, exclude the relic and accessory, you need mats and copies to evolve the weapon as well, and the weapon will have a substat meter that you need to upgrade which is complete rng, it could give you a +0)

Blizzards games is just horrible these days, if you actually play these kinds of games u would know that path of exile is years ahead of any diablo game.
Now after playing it for a bit and watching people's content that reached level caps and resource caps it's clear that Diablo immortal is only designed to get kids addicted to gambling so they extract cash. mark my words, they will try to implement some of their greedy tactics into Diablo 4. Played Diablo immortal and it wasn’t that fun f2p so I went back to Path of Exile. Thanks to the Devs for making a cool and relaxing game for me to take a break from the competitiveness of League

I find the notion that Diablo Immoral is a slot machine offensive. At least with a slot machine there is a -slim- chance you make your money back, but with Diablo Immoral, all money is just wasted.
He was on the mark with this take. I quit the previous league to play Lost Ark with friends. That hype died and we quit like 2 weeks in and I didn't have to energy to come back to PoE. But this league I hit level 100 for the first time since there weren't any new hype games that grabbed my attention.

Some of the PoE devs work near me and iv met them at a local burger shop, they are the nicest people and you couldn't ask for better workers, they love what they do and it really shows.
The worst part for me is the gameplay actually looks pretty good, but Blizzard just couldn't help themselves and had to make the scummiest P2W microtransactions they could. Whatever small hope I had for D4 is completely gone. Guess I'll play D2 until I die

Not getting the hate at all. It's a mobile game. I primarily played Marvel Puzzle Quest on my phone for years. Sunk a lot of time into it and a fair bit of $ over the years. It's a time waster. It's not a "game" that I would sit down and sink hours into like any of the previous Diablo titles. It's Diablo "lite" and I'm loving it. I bought the battlepass and have been enjoying figuring it all out. I'm in no rush. It's a free to play mobile game. Wait for Diablo 4 if you want a full Diablo experience. I really don't get it. It's like whining that a macdonalds burger doesn't taste as good as a home cooked burger that you spent an hour making. It's Diablo "lite". What more do you want?

I can't believe I'm saying this but Diablo Immortal's release kinda makes me want to pick up Path of Exile now.

I'm a bit of a lore nerd for Diablo and the story is unfortunately kinda interesting. But past the story I ain't interested.
Correction, D3 does the same thing better on PC specifically. Some people can't afford a PC, or don't have the time to sit down at a PC and play for long periods of time. If you're playing this game purely for the PC port, you're likely going to have an awful time. Purely speaking as a mobile game, it's a very good game (p2w aspects aside).
@@VestasCure D3 also does the same thing better on PC than DI does on mobile as well is what I mean. Not that mobile is a super important platform for actual gamers to begin with either, but in their eyes it's simply another platform to make money from I reckon.

It's all scaled back for mobile, at what point are you allowed to say it was too far for a mobile game? DI it's arguably the best in it's genre as far as mobile games go on release (ignoring p2w aspects), and easily competes with if not beats other games that have had years of development time/community feedback.
That being said, obviously it's just another platform to make money from. Blizzard is a business, they're supposed to make money. My hope (arguably a bit too optimistic but someone has to be) is that those profits will help to make other games like D4 and future WoW expansions better games where we don't have to deal with these things since they're getting other revenue streams from things like DI.
@@VestasCure They already have more than enough money to make those, it's all about creative freedom and competence. After the last few years I'm not sure they have enough of either.
I think people are missing the joke, pretty sure what he meant was “we’ll pretend diablo immortal doesn’t exist, don’t go and play that, stay here and play poe” not saying that to defend immortal in any way, it’s shameful, just think maybe his words have been misinterpreted

GGG and PoE are one of the last hopes for gaming. They have their MTXs… and some of it makes the game “easier”, but it’s far from pay2win. PoE is a fantastic game. Super in-depth and tons of content. The freedom of class design is unmatched by any game.
I hate the sentiment around the new mtx. They just want to make cool looking mtx so that people can customize nearly everything about their characters, but the moment they do: "VISIBILITY IS HIGHER, PAY TO WIN TRASH!!!!!"
