    Because of your good advice about buying a scooter, I came back to you again to give thanks. I got my Mi 1s delivered today and very much excited to have a practice tomorrow morning before I travel on the road going to my work.

    I would really recommend to charge the battery to 75% when you intend to store the scooter for some time. Lithium doesnt like to be stored when fully charged. Imagine a balloon at max capacity and just leaving it like that
    To get the most out of your total battery life, don't charge over 80% since that puts the most strain on lithium cells. Sweet spot would be to use the 20-70% charge spectrum

    If you're going to buy one spend a little extra. The entry level e scooters are fine for short commutes but they have short range and are usually limited to 15.5mph. The have either a single 350 or 500 watt motor. They can struggle on some inclines. If you live in an area which has steep hills and you commute a greater distance it's better getting a e scooter with a 1000 watt motor as this will easily do the job.

    I wish I saw this before. I ended up buying the cheapest scooter I could (Mi Essential) but I'm 115 Kg. The scooter is good, I know what I bought and it is in fact a weak scooter, specially when climbing, but overall, I can't complaint too much. The only problem is that because of my weight I am doing around 8Km rounds. I really need to buy a better scooter at least to have some more kms on it.

    Never deplete the battery completely....a few moments later ....make sure after maybe five - six charges to run the battery flat completelly. Dude, make up your mind please. .......BTW if your BMS is good, you'll never be able to deplete battery completely because it shuts down battery before it reaches dangerously low voltage.

  • @glossyvibes6662
    @glossyvibes6662 2 роки тому +1

    One question, do you use up the battery completely after 6 charges when you first get it or is it always?

    • @HempTech
      @HempTech  2 роки тому

      It’s meant to be always but the batteries are so good nowadays it’s not going to make a huge difference. Just something to keep in mind 👍🏼

    Otherwise these scooters only last as long as their batteries (2-4 years).

    If is not being used on private land it's Illegal? You just said I can use it on Cycle Tracks. Make your mind up.

    • @HempTech
      @HempTech  3 роки тому

      Sorry for confusion. Basically they can only be used on paths that have been approved, which in certain areas in London etc. have been cycle paths and parts of roads that have been blocked off from cars so it’s safe. They can’t be used anywhere else as they are classed as ‘powered transporters’ like cars and motor bikes. These can be used on roads as there are laws and procedures put in place like number plates, tax, driving licences and insurance to make it as safe as possible and make people liable if they do something wrong. Hope that helps...sorry for giant reply 😂

  • @paulyflyer8154
    @paulyflyer8154 3 роки тому +1

    I didn't think you could legally use a non-hire one on cycle paths? Only private land? I hope you're correct.

    • @HempTech
      @HempTech  3 роки тому

      As it stands you can only use the ones you can hire but like I said, so many people are flying about on them to get to work and back etc. They have just started a scheme in my town but no info on any particular bits of road that they can be used on so everyone is just riding them on the paths and police don’t seem to care...I literally don’t know anymore 🤷🏻‍♂️

    in my city they are rental scooters called Voi Scooters so i don't get how it's against the law for you to use them on normal Roads

    • @HempTech
      @HempTech  3 роки тому

      I know it’s not great. It’s because there are no guidelines set out for what the scooters have to have etc. A bit like what we have with cars that have to pass MOTs before you can use them. Where as the ones you hire are all the same and are monitored regularly by the company. So until they set out these guidelines it’s going to be a grey area. Maybe in future you will be looking for scooters in UK to come with DVLA approval when you are looking to buy one etc. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @flitsies
    @flitsies 3 роки тому +1

    For the most part the police have no interest in going after people on scooters but that is not always the case.
    And that's the problem with them because they are still illegal and there are no grey areas on this, if you happen to come across a cop thats had a bad day you are screwed because he could throw the book at you, no insurance, riding an unlicensed vehicle, an unroadworthy vehicle, and a few more charges on top.
    So as long as we know what we could be letting ourselves on for when we ride these things then they are a great way to get around.
    But it usually is not a problem the police generally have no interest, but they do have purges from time to time.
    Just after Christmas up to February it seems there were a few confiscation.

    At 4:28 you recommended to run the battery flat completely then fully charge it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but lithium ion batteries built from 18650 cells, like the ones in the scooters, will no longer charge if they have been run flat. By letting then run flat it would actually kill the battery pack.
    I could be wrong, so thought I'd ask.

    • @HempTech
      @HempTech  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for asking. That’s what online communities are for as there is always going to be someone that knows more. What I mean is it’s good to every now and then use the scooter until it no longer goes and then charge it fully instead of just topping it up over and over.

    • @HempTech
      @HempTech  3 роки тому +1

      Technically in uk you need at least a provisional license unless you are on private land...but...Currently there is a company in my town that leases them out and I’m seeing people of all ages on them riding on roads, paths and no one ever seems to get stopped by police so I give up on the rules...it’s seems like people are just going to ride them around until enough people get hurt or even killed and they will have to clamp down on rules.

      I’m talking about the lime e scooter trials in the UK. They are the only places in uk you can ride an e scooter legally on a road/path and you have to have at least a provisional license and be 18 or over...unless something has changed since I last looked but haven’t heard anything. Cheers for comment 👍🏼

    I'm so sick of people riding these on the pavement where I live. I wish the police would do their job and just nick the MF's. Either something is legal or it isn't. All this talk of grey areas makes no sense to me. What's the point of having laws if they're not enforced.

  • @HOMETV810
    @HOMETV810 3 роки тому

    Great video, but just to be clear, it's 16 years of age & least a provisional UK driving license, however no privately owned eScooters are currently legal on any UK roads, cycle paths or parks, private land only with owners permission, so unfortunatly you can't own your own eScooter & ride it legally on UK roads or cycle paths and definitely not Park Lane.
    The reason that Police have been not paying much attention is that they had to give it enough time for correct information to be out in the wild and for them to tell all retailers to give guidance on legal usage to all customers.
    However that grace period is now over, no more cautions, just convictions, the Met Police have been granted funding and permission for a zero tolerance crack-down on privately owned eScooters in London starting on Monday the 5th of July, meaning you get caught, even not riding like an idiot, you will get a £300.00 fine and 6 points on your driving license, which will make it a lot more expensive and even prohibitive to actually get your self vehicle insurance going forward.
    I am very sure other regional forces will very quickly follow suit, meaning that from then on you will effectively be playing Russian Roulette with your driving license, every time you use your private eScooter on public roads which will be very off putting for most.
    You are totally correct that this is crazy and actually needs to be properly legislated for sooner rather than later, but in the meantime with a further year to go on the official consultation, riding an eScooter on public roads just got that bit more difficult and legally risky. Once again many thanks a great highly informative video, keep up the great work, Regards Ashe.

    Every british youtuber I see riding an e-scooter on here is White #noracial Ive seen one ad from Taur.com with a black inventor.. Dont get me wrong I see enough scooters in east london & Newham is a very ethnic area but I get that gut feeling on my route the police will slap me with the full amount fine. If you know the Westfield Stratford. the police Station is right there and they're always in civvies trying to catch trouble out

    • @HempTech
      @HempTech  3 роки тому +1

      Wow I would really hope you wouldn’t be fined for that reason in 2021...if it helps, the day we shot this there were all sorts of ethnicities riding them around with security and police not seeming bothered 🤷🏻‍♂️
