I have the new solo tent. It's unbelievably high quality. So much warmer and quieter than my Gazelle. My wife loves it and she's well aware of how much I spent on it.
I had an opportunity to see one of these in the desert and it did an amazing job. the outside is surprisingly thick so it kept us warm. Mike Glover also did a review on his channel and came to the same conclusion. The owner is also a very nice guy. I will be buying one at the next expo.
Ditching my pull behind camper after a good 12yrs trying that out and going back to ground tent camping. After much review and reading I`ve just ordered Overlandish Basecamp 2 in Olive green with accessories. After searching for what would the best of the best for *my* camping style/ needs it came down to the Basecamp 2, the RBM Up-5, the Shiftpod and one of the RBM inflatables. Early on in my search I discarded the Gazelle 4 and one of the other popular inflatables which escapes me now as far as brand. All the ones on my final list have ease of set up sans the inflatable which takes a bit more work. Wanting to go backwoods is high priority for me so the shiftpod/spotlight is out for obvious reasons there. I decided that I dont want a hot tent for now and this left me with the Basecamp. TBH I wanted the BC2 to be my tent at the start, I just wanted to see about the others just to be certain. If I ever want go for a hot tent an RBM will be a shoo-in and thats a fact! Now to figure out a heater.....
This tent has some really nice features, but I don't regret paying 300 more for the RBM cuboid if you're truly thinking about a season tent. Great review.
Nice review. I am considering this tent as well as a canvas cabin tent from Springbar being their Skyliner Hot Tent. Though the Base Camp V2 is a great tent and of course of a different design I am not sure if it is big enough form what I want of a tent per size. I want a tent which has lots of room. I would want a camp chair a small table and fit a pair of full size cots. The Skyliner fits the bill perfect for me being room. It is 10x14 vs 10x10 but is not as simple to setup as the Base Camp V2, though it does go up very nicely. I would love to watch a comparison of a tent like the Base Camp II vs a canvas cabin like tent.
Contact Overlandish and the owner can explain the material to you with technical detail. He told me that is not sewn quilting, those are heat welds to create the quilting in the fabric, so not holes from sewing.
i don't know about that floor. I have friends who were camping one night and it turned into a monsoon. they had water running underneath their tent and he said the tent floor looked like it could have been a water bed. I might have to stick with my ShiftPod
Im considering purchasing Overlandish Base Camp but I also saw the Acacia Space XL. Would you be able to do a review based on the images since Acacia is not available for purchase? I just want to make the right choice. Thanks
Hey Brenda... just want to let you know I see your message and have heard of the Acacia Space tent... will take a deeper dive into it later this afternoon/evening and let you know.
Hey Brenda... FYI I have some questions on the tent and sent an email into the company. As soon as I have answers from them, I'll give you my 2 cents based on what is available from their website and their answers. Stay tuned!
That's a cool tent, completely different animal to this one. What is cool about what you have is that it can connect with other Freespirit tents if you have right? Wait... do the walls have windows on your FSR hub? I seem to recall that will connect to their rooftop tent and create a 'downstairs' effect. That's right that is something like 66" long right? What sort of truck you have?
No. Mine is very similar to the overlandish. But little larger. I went FSR for the size. Being I have wife and two girls. So we put two double Xped mattresses next to each other. I thought the overlandish might be a little tight. But the FSR hub 6 is a one foot longer 72” when collapsed. Which like you said in your video review is long. I haven’t decided to store diagonal in the bed of the gladiator or on top of the smart cap.
FSR really is a different animal than the overlandish tent in that it’s not insulated but it is bigger. We found that the 12 foot diameter is plenty of room and the packdown being under 5’ is clutch
My only fear is the durability of the floor over time…its the same as inflatable kayak material but those require mending so I imagine the floor will also pop and require maintenance over time.
Sorry for late reply bud, I have and jury is out to lunch for me at the moment on that one. I would really need to test that out. For me, I want a tent that I can take out any time of the year. The Acacia I had concerns about closing that up and being able to keep cold winter outdoors.
It looks like it would get awful hot in their… And if I can not put mesh in to replace the 5 lil plastic windows that sounds even warmer. I would love to buy this and not have also buy a goal zero AC unit or multiple rechargeable fans.
@JarradShaw you get both options built in! mesh for hot buggy days and clear plastic for cold days you want to keep the heat in...also you can go fully open
Hey thanks bud. While slapping a rainfly on might not be ideal for some, I'll say for what it's worth this tent earns every bit of enthusiasm I gave it, it's one of my favorite tents. Do you camp in wet weather much?
I dont purposely aim to camp in wet weather but i have been caught in it & so i know the importance of a weatherproof shelter. I’m actually australian so i use a swag, the 23 Zero Outbreak to be exact which is large for a swag, so a different ball park to what you were reviewing, but this thing can be left open for hot nights or zipped up for a storm within seconds yet still leave the side windows open for ventilation. Horses for courses i suppose, but my one criteria is that it MUST be able to handle wet weather & still have ventilation. Without those things, it can ruin your whole trip.
DANG!! Tent looks spotless for "really beating the hell out of it" over the previous 6 months. By the looks of it this is probably the 3rd time its been set up. Its okay to be paid. Lets just be honest
OK... Where do I start with you? First... please WATCH the video from the start... one of the first things I talk about is that they DID send this tent to me to review. I also mentioned I was offered the original tent to review... I didn't like it, therefore didn't review it. So aside from being given the tent... I wasn't paid a nickel for this. As I have stated in many of my videos, my loyalty isn't with any partners or advertisers... my loyalty is with the end user. So if there is something I don't like... I'll let you know. That said... as mentioned in this video, these guys nailed it on V2. First tent V1... nope, way to many negatives for me. one last point new friend: "Lets just be honest" - lets not make assumptions ;)
Oh... come out with me some time... I do beat the hell out of gear, it's my job. The tent comes with a durable bag, which protects the tent and gets thrown all over and crap stacked on it. I set it up with a floor mat so it does keep most of the dirt off it. "3rd time its been set up" - Your funny.
@@4wdTALK no offense intended with my comment. I'm happy to take it down if you would like. To clarify did you test v1 for 6 months but you utilized the v2 for the video and include the v2 improvements as if you tested the v2? The tent you have in this video is way too clean to have gone through 6 months of rigorous use and testing. Can you see where a viewer may feel mislead? Some unsolicted advise...you've got great camera presence and a voice to match. Don't ask for a like and to hit the subscribe button like you would your mother-in-law or whatever was said. It comes across as desperate as well as feeling like being asked to tip before you even get your burger and fries. Your enthusiasm, energy, and natural ability will earn and attract the subs you want. I'll have to take up your offer on going out some time. I'm sure it would be a good time. Best!
@@treystills Hey bud... no offense was taken. I simply clarified areas that you were incorrect. As I was stating the case this tent comes in is extremely durable, and it protects it from dirt and debris as I throw this in and out of my truck (beating the hell part that I spoke about), when I get to location, I don't roll it around in dirt, so there isn't any reason for it to be dirty like that. In this video alone I think there are 3 different locations/camps this tent is shown in. Anyway... regarding your next comment on asking for likes. Like many on UA-cam we experiment with my storyboards/ vernacular. For example during last few months, most videos we don't even bring up 'like' and 'subscribe' in them. As I stated, you are welcome to come along with one of our trips and you can see, when you know how to set up tents like this (which are stupid simple)... its tough to get them dirty. LOL you really have to intentionally throw dirt at this! Nice chat... see you around!
I think the makers need to realize 2024 is not like 2023, the idea I like but, this is a ground tent with no floor so charging RTT prices will not cut it.
It's designed to be a Swiss Army knife, opening up a wide range of uses. Most tents are quite singular in their application, but this one offers versatility for various scenarios.
If you buy any of it buy all of it. The tough bag and weather package are necessary and should be part of the package. I am not impressed for the amount of money spent.
The full sized OD green. The rain fly needs work. You have no ventilation with it on. I also got a little water in around the corners and at the floor zipper. Not a lot but not fun to step in

100% agree, these punch way out of their weight class
What a great tent ! Awesome review as well!

Nice review, Thanks.

How are these seamsealed? The whole thing looks quilted. That seems warm, but if all those sown seems aren't sealed, rain will come in.

Did you do an update video on the Patagonia Tires?
Hey Jason... not yet that is coming up. Stay tuned!
@4wdTALK awesome. Looking forward to it.
are they coming out with a V3 version, or just get the V2???
As I understand next year they may have a updated version. I just posted a video today on an updated V2 and it's bad A$$!

Beings the footprint is larger than the tent, are you able to stake the tent down without punching holes in the footprint?
Very good question, when I stake down a tent I'm doing so with the tie down straps. Which pose no risk of interfering with the footprint.
Does one of the pockets have a stove pipe port so you could run a wood burner in it in the winter time
Not on mine, that would be a great question to run by them. You never know, they may have something in the works. ;)
As you mentioned if in rain...Problem with ventilation.
How is the floor in the rain with the zipper? Do you think there woukd be any issues?
Will let you know this winter season, great question!
I went FSR hub. Not realizing how long it was Folded up.

Friend they have a new smaller version of this tent. That might be something you want to look at. ;)
Great vid, but with the inability to handle wet weather & you need a rainfly that’ll block all the ventilation, its definitely a hard pass for me!
