AlpineAire Kung Pao Beef Review | Flavor Blast or Flop? 😮 | Freeze-Dried Culinary Mystery Revealed!
I have a question for you. So I was just on their website and looking at these pop up tops on these vans. The roof racks that are on top of these, are these the same or less weight ratings because of the top?
Hi, yes, compared to a van with a standard stock roof, this option can carry more weight. However, camper tops like this add valuable vertical space, which is a significant advantage. That said, it's worth noting that you may lose some of the roof's weight capacity in the process.
One word: someday!
Really liked the video great work. Would love to get one of these hot tents any idea where I could get one used
Did he say he has 4 kids and him and his wife and sleep in that thing?
Yes, that's the benefit of the tops on these larger vans, you get so much usable space in these foot prints.
I like the van format because of the visibility over the hood. Up in British Columbia, Yukon Territory, NWT and Alaska there are places where a big front end can be a safety concern. Coming around tight corners is safer bc It's much easier to judge tire placement. Many times you have to get close to the shoulder as a semi approaches in the opposite lane. The Dempster highway is all packed dirt / crushed shale with soft slippery shoulders, especially when its been raining. Not being able to accurately judge where your front tires are gets people into trouble all the time. When you get WAY up there there aren't even any trees to hook a winch line to. I also like the idea of not having to deal with camper stoves, portable diesel heaters and aftermarket electrical systems to support extra lights and such.
I've always wanted to drive to Alaska, have you made that trek many times?
My father traveled for the last 28 years of his life in a van something very similar. It was the happiest I saw him. When his sight started to go, and he couldn't drive, that sense of adventure went blind too, and he never was the same.
My grandfather did the same from Florida to NY when I was a kid. He would drive back and forth, exploring antique shops and swap meets. He didn't' have anything as large as this one, but it was great for just himself and his small dog.
Alex when are you going to do a review on the Sonmez Outdoors 480?
Likely during the next few weeks when I get my voice back
never seen that all aluminum look before
They are putting their spin on it
So how much did they pay you to pass off this Chinese heater (that they put in a new shiny box) as good deal, or a cool deal, or as ANYTHING other than an overpriced rebranding of the same machine you can get for $85-100 on Amazon? Not only is the company that MARKETS (they did not “manufacture” it!) this disgraceful, this site that reviewed it is just as disingenuous. But hey! Anything for a buck I guess. Why does it not surprise me this guy is from California?
Thanks for your feedback, though I have to wonder-do you work for a competing diesel heater company? Your accusations and tone seem to suggest an ulterior motive. Let me clarify a few things: Transparency Is Key: Yes, Sparks Overland sent me this prototype heater to review (which I mentioned in the first video already), as they did with their first version, which I openly criticized in a previous video because it didn’t meet my standards. I’m not in the business of endorsing products I don’t believe in. If you had actually watched my prior reviews, you’d know this. Not Your Average Heater: You mentioned $85 Chinese heaters from Amazon-believe me, I’ve tested several of those, and the quality isn’t even in the same ballpark. Sparks Overland’s prototype uses over-engineered parts and is built with a level of precision that those budget heaters don’t touch. Yes, the core of this heater is sourced from China (I corrected myself on that in this video after misspeaking earlier), but that’s hardly a sin in manufacturing. Just like companies such as Ineos, Apple, Boeing, or even Land Rover, Sparks Overland uses global sourcing to deliver what looks to be a good heater. The Test That Matters: My review focused on whether this heater did what it was supposed to do-keep my tent warm during a cold night in Big Bear. It delivered exactly what I hoped for, without issue. I didn’t claim it was a “deal” or push it as some unbeatable bargain; I evaluated its performance as objectively as possible. Constructive Dialogue Over Criticism: It’s easy to sit behind a keyboard and hurl insults without offering evidence or even engaging in good faith. If you’d like to have a productive discussion about diesel heaters and share your experiences, I’m happy to hear them. But sweeping accusations and unfounded insults reflect poorly on you, not me or Sparks Overland. Reminder this is a prototype: As I mentioned, the exact heater I have is a prototype machine #1, ground zero, first out… I mentioned in the video these guys have been making a ton of changes to their heater in their attempt to deliver the best product they can. While they didn’t invent this style of heater, they are putting a genuine footforward to create something that has their own twist on it. Finally, I stand by my reviews. I take pride in providing honest assessments, even when it means admitting mistakes or pointing out flaws in products sent to me. If you’re genuinely interested in discussing the product further or sharing your thoughts, I encourage a respectful dialogue. Otherwise, this kind of baseless rant doesn’t serve anyone. Thanks for watching the video-hopefully, you can approach the next one with a more open mind.
Looks cool, how loud is the fuel pump in that heater, kind of hard to hear in your audio.
I didn't have a decimal reader so can't comment on that. I can say from inside the tent, I couldn't hear it.
That thing is really cool.
The SPARKS OVERLAND 4kw diesel heater uses a Belief heater core!!!
Thanks for the share.I’ve seen both of your videos on this heater and it’s a beautiful design. Nice & secure outside in that box, especially with the LCD controller inside. The white noise will keep Sasquatch away. Thanks from Wales 🏴 U.K. 🇬🇧
"keep Sasquatch away" - brother I had a good laugh over that! Merry Christmas to you!
Thats a lot of tent for that heater, how long will that heater run for on full?
Honestly not sure, this was the first time I ran the heater and as you can see in the video I couldn't tell how much fuel was in the tank. While on that note, I would check with the manufacture as I believe their newer production models have a different fuel tank being used, I want to say it's larger than the one on prototype one I have.
Here’s an idea, don’t put any gas in the generator until you are ready to use it immediately after adding fuel. Leave the gas in a gas can and if you are worried about its age then either add a stabilizer to the fuel in the can or put the gas in your lawn equipment or car.
Great video!
Ummm... yeah. First bad review of the Hcalory that I have seen so far, and I have watched quite a few. I knew he was going to pimp the expensive one. Try not to be so obvious next time, young man.
Is the Fuel line meant to penetrate the bottom of the tank or through the cap (or top of tank) and then run the line to the bottom? The Pump is designed to self prime and should be able to pick up fuel and lift it a fairly good vertical distance. Has anyone hooked up the fuel in this manner?
Gas generators require running the motor several times a year. bc gas goes bad and jams up the carb. We have a generac 5000
Where Is the 6 month review ???
What a fun video Alex. I bet waking up to that snow must have been something. So let me ask you this, if a tent like this gets a rip, can it be repaired easily?
Good stuff. If I had a Land cruiser, id definitely sleep inside. On my Jeep, I runn RTT in the winter. Summer time I have no roof or doors so I ground tent in a
Check out these tents here: www.roaminhome.com/
what kind of diesel heater is that in the aluminum box?
dude cool tent
These are good for long term camps right?
My dad had a canvas wall tent when we were kids, that was the coolest tent. I'd bet he still has it. He never throws anything away, plus that tent was so durable. Likely hasn't been used in years and no clue on the condition.
I would have liked to hear about ease (or lack thereof) of takedown and stowage.
what are your thoughts on the HCalory version2? can you do a comparison with that one
These heaters are garbage. I bought a second one a few months ago for a follow video. It cost $78. Think about this, Amazon made money, manufacture made money and of course HCalory made money. After profits removed, this is likely at $30 heater. Nope... hard pass for me.
this thing is nicer than my college apt
The carbon monoxide risk with open flame propane heater even disposable barbecue Coals/charcoal have killed many people even hot embers in ash buckets will set off carbon monoxide alarms this should never be done in a room or tent with minimal ventilation or vehicle’s or enclosed space
I have the solo and LOVE it! Fits sideways in my wrangler, packs up and down super quick, and fits a cot perfectly with plenty of room to spare. And so nice to find a smaller tent that you can stand up in
Just got one of the Arctic 4kw units for ice fishing this winter. Looking forward to seeing how well it works!
Way too much intro. Bailing.
Welcome to BC! I want one of these heaters so bad. I also hope to see some of the Euroheater accessories from Norway for these heaters make their way here, wink wink
I sprinkle the oxygen absorber on top of the meal when it's ready. Lol
OMG, I'm rolling right now. Great laugh brother!
What happens with how the trailer handles when you put a roof top tent on the top of it?
Hi Janet, like anything when you start stacking weight up on top, your center of gravity moves up. :)
Will watch this when I get home this evening
Awesome, enjoy Chad!
Ordered a Flex 1500 in 2021. It took about 18 months or so for us to even get the generator. Then they promised they would send an additional item to make up for the delay (a crock pot). We never received it. Then we bought extra batteries. We've used the generator (inside the house) a handful of times. It is now dead about 2.5 or so years later. Of course, it's out of warranty! Garbage! They have terrible reviews on the BBB site, BTW.

What’s eco-mode like on this? Does is save you any petrol?
Your video was very helpful ..Thanks for sharing 😊
You're awesome!
That's a serious heater there. Another great video, thank you.
Thank you!!
the location is epic
It was!! Happy holidays friend!
BC has some of the most beautiful landscapes in North America, good seeing you again.
1000% agree, this was our first time that far north. Won't be the last!
Which lake is this?
It was Chehalis Lake. Highly recommend this place.
you should probably pitch your tents above the water line..
Ha ha ha, if staying the night there we would have. Thanks for stopping by new friend!
Just picked up a Sunster diesel heater. The case is a little better laid out than the Planar but wish me luck on the quality otherwise.... Here is the surprise: My back up is a 12v electric blanket that is under sized and made to go under the sleeping bag and can operate on low at 40 watts or so intermittently to maintain heat. Experimenting so far my older ecoflo delta can power it for three nights!! Good alternative.
Hey friend, thanks for stopping by and welcome to the channel! I wasn't familiar with "Sunster" heaters and had to Google that one. My loyalty is with the end user, so I hope that works out for you, however if the 2.5 stars I saw this heater had on Amazon bits you in the butt, you have some perspective on other options. Regarding electric blanket, 100% friend... I have tested a number of these over the years as well. Great way to keep toasty!
Great review! I've been drooling over those Planar heaters, I just can't justify the cost as I only winter camp maybe 10 nights per year. I purchased the Sunster last month also on Amazon and so far the thing is solid, quiet and puts off a great amount of heat. My only gripe is that is is not maintenance friendly as the case is riveted. I ended up drilling out the rivets and replaced them with M3 rivet nuts, this way I can get to all of the components. In addition to this I also added in a fuel filter, replaced the green fuel line with actual fuel line then added an additional filter to better keep out fine dust and sand from the combustion chamber. At $200 USD you really can't go wrong.
Will the smaller heater heat a couple tents?
A few factors go into that answer which depend on ambient temperature, size of tents, distance from heater and where you want the temps to be. Assuming it's not -50F, and temps are on positive side of "0", even a 2kW heater will keep both tents comfortable (assuming smaller tents). The larger the tent, the more BTU's you'll want.
Is there a cap/cover if your not using a second hose on the bottom? My non Arctic version has a louvered cap.
It's basically the same thing you have on your except, the louvered section is on the inside.
