      Dunes? Where are you located? I have taken this tent to Death Valley, Golden Valley AZ, and Glamis. All of these have high winds and lots of sand. You will get sand in your tent, bottom line. Tracking in with your feet and from opening and closing doors. Other than that, just bring sand anchors for your tie downs and you'll be good to go.

    that square shape of the smaller one seems like the space is more useful. the 6 sided one feels like it would not have as much useful space because it is rounded off

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK 7 днів тому

      Square foot wise, the 6 sided Basecamp has double of the space of the Solo. The individual panel width in the Solo tent is wider than the panels in the Basecamp, as result and speaking PER panel... it's easier to position beds and such closer to the walls in the Solo. In the Basecamp you have a little space between the middle of the wall and center of bed, which isn't the end of the world as we will often have clothes bag stored in this space.

      @4wdTALK 9 днів тому

      @@dougg8280 If you are referring to the Alpine, for my needs and what I want from a trailer (we all are different with different needs), this trailer is a huge improvement. Weight is a huge one, layout is another big one, center of gravity and the commitment and drive from the team behind SNO is something I find very attractive. Turtleback, Patriot, TerraRover Overland (original trailer owned by new owners of Turtleback) and so many others, draw inspiration for their designs from that signature 'look' associated with expedition style trailers. That said, I believe SNO represents the evolution of where this industry is heading. So yeah, my TB was dialed in and was an incredible trailer... @4wdTALK 14 днів тому

      Hey John, welcome to the channel and thank you for your comment! I wouldn't say I know the new owner of Turtleback as well as I did the previous ones. The former owners had a very clear and evident connection to the community and a strong 'why' behind their work (which is something I had admired). I have spoken with the new owner on several occasions, both over the phone and in person at Expo West. While I haven't reviewed their new trailers yet, I place tremendous value on a brand's focus on community. I do wish them success and hope they continue to uphold the values that have made the original Turtleback so respected in the overlanding community.

      @@johnowens8530 Hey bud, yes, I am, and I'm part of many discussions relating to TB. Personally, I resonate with the old owners who left no questions about the direction of their community compass. I just feel their 'why' was more relatable. Yeah, and don't see gas prices going down anytime soon. Wish they would, but not realistic. That said, lightweight is a big plus. If the market ever fully switches to electric, weight will kill range, so lighter these things are, the absolute better!

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK 14 днів тому

      So true, I seem to recall a video from a little while ago that showed a Rivian R1T which has something like 11,000 towing capacity towing a trailer with a car on it, had it's range dropped to something crazy like 100 miles. I just tried to find that video to check on the mileage I just stated, which may be off, but I recall it was a massive drop. So 100%, weight is the enemy to EV's!

    Would you recommend this in a van build?

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK 7 днів тому

      I've been testing their Tactical Power Station and would HIGHLY recommend it over the original. Don't get me wrong, the original Flex 1500 is awesome, but the Tactical just knocks it out of the park. I have a video coming out soon on it-stay tuned, friend! Regarding the van build, the beauty of the Tactical Power Station is its versatility. You can use it in your van, and when it's not in use there, it can be used in your house, at camp, for emergency power, and much more. Hope this helps!

    These are some extremely expensive trailers

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK 7 днів тому

      Hey bud, "Expensive" can mean different things to different people. However, when you compare this trailer to others, consider that purchasing one of these supports jobs and the American economy. While you might find something less expensive from other countries, investing in this trailer means you're supporting your local community and countrymen. Not to mention you get something that will outlast overseas budget options. Hope this helps!

    How much you get paid for this video? They don't have sales people already?

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK 7 днів тому

      NOT a single cent bud. This video was put together to share with you folks 100% on my dime. Which I hope it was informative and shared some perspective on things I find exciting about this trailer. Matter of fact, I'm flying out to Texas this week to shoot another video on this trailer and 2 others. Now if you want to reward me with a coffee, brother we can meet up and I'd appreciate that!

      @4wdTALK How much did you pay for your trailer? Do you get any incentive at all if someone buys one at BTR or mentions your name?

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK 7 днів тому

      @@honey2badger I appreciate your curiosity and understand where you're coming from. To clarify, I did not receive any payment for this video. I do not own this trailer and receive no incentives if someone buys one from BTR or mentions my name. BTR is a client, but this video was made entirely on my own dime, without any financial gain from Escapod or BTR. My goal with these videos is to provide viewers with an honest perspective on products that I find exciting. For example, I recently released a video comparing the Overland-ish Basecamp and SOLO Tent (I do own the BaseCamp/borrowed the SOLO tent), which I also funded entirely myself, despite having done paid work for them in the past. Creating content around trailers and campers can be challenging due to their limited availability and long lead times from manufacturers. That's why I jump at the chance to review them whenever possible. These videos are fun to put together and more fun when they help people make educated decisions. This week, I’m flying to Texas at my own expense to film the AT Habitat, SkinnyGuy Camper, and Escapod TOPO2 (Yep another TOPO2 video!)-again, all on my own dime. BTR Outfitters happens to have inventory (where I'm shooting these videos), which allows me to create these walk-around videos and share my perspective with the community. So in a single trip, I get to get my hands on a few different products. Win for me! If my videos help someone make a purchasing decision, I'm happy to direct them to where they can find these products, but rest assured, I receive no compensation for these recommendations. Thanks for understanding and for being part of the community!

    Any concerns with water seeping in through that floor zipper? I feel like if you get enough water pooled up under the tent from a good rain, it'll seep right through

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK 7 днів тому

      When it rains you want to make sure the floor is tucked under the tent. Full disclosure, I have not been in heavy rain. Here in California, just don't get it often. I have been in light rain, which in this incident, i didn't have it tucked under like it should have, I still didn't have any water issues inside.

    How were the poles? Did you feel they were prone to snapping?

    • @4wdTALK
      @4wdTALK 7 днів тому

      Not at all, this thing is built solid. Putting aside this tent for a moment, the only time people run into problems with hub style tents is when they don't know how to put it away and 'force' things. Then regardless how well something is built, you are going to have problems. Actually I would guess the knuckles would give out first before the poles. Hope this helps.

    • @florindagonzalez5700
      @florindagonzalez5700 5 днів тому

      @4wdTALK Yes, it does. I have a shiftpod (which I adore), but I notice I get anxious when opening and closing it since the poles have snapped before (if it bends in JUST the right way, it snaps). It's not a problem I've encountered with my gazelle tent. I have been eyeballing obsidian for a while because it's the reviews say it's made of tougher materials. I haven't heard any reports of mold or mildew on obsidian either, so that's a plus (been having to ensure my pod stays mint, but it requires maintenance [occasionally open it up to ensure it's dry, uvc light treatment, cleaning the inside & outside walls, disinfect the floor]). And, it can be tiring (not being mean, just real). The interior is white, which has stained in some areas, so I'm going to have to paint in the future. That's about the only thing I may not like about Obsidian, an all black interior (and square stitching), buuut, a lot of my gear is black and neon, so I think it can balance out and would look super rad. I definitely look forward to seeing more reviews on obsidian. I live by the gulf, and these are not just tents for me. I am considering them as alternate backup shelters in case my home is destroyed by a hurricane (don't be scared, be prepared type of thing ^_^). It also seems like RDS did a good job giving a roomy bag for their tent? Anyway, I am think of getting this next.
