I built a pool noodle holder out of PVC…just a rectangular cube. I spray painted it to match my patio furniture. I’m going to do that when I build this and add the top last. Great tutorial! Well done.
Brilliant. For the towel rack/hose holder, just make the vertical supports furthest from the pool the same as the ones closest but use 4-way tees instead of 3-ways so you can add two holders to each vertical support. Add a 45 at the end of each holder curled upwards to hold the towels on also. This is awesome. Thanks for the sweet video!
That picture at 1:16 probably saved me an hour on the project thanks for the great video! Love the acrylic but I went with a 1" pine shelf with a beveled edge for $8 instead of the acrylic because my lowes didn't have it... After stain it still looks and works great. Thanks again

What a great video thank you so much! Also, you could change 2 of the elbows at the bottom to "T's" and add a towel bar. I'm planning on building this very soon.

Thank you for this video! Step by step instructions and still shots really helped. I built one today and it's just what I was needing! I used 3/4" PVC since I already had a ton at home but it worked just fine.

Maybe super-tought Coolaroo fabric, with SS turnbuckles underneath?? 😅
I started making this shelf Friday and finished it today after church with some help from my family members. One of the legs that goes over the railing is a little crooked but it still works fine. My lexan did crack at one of the screws but it is ok. That stuff is not cheap. Next year we are getting a larger pool so I will try the thicker lexan. Thank you for this video it is the second project I've worked on with pvc pipe. Now just waiting for the next project to come along.
I will stay tuned. I'm thinking about making a little doggy pad to hang over the side of the rail into the pool for my little Yorkie to sit on in the pool with pvc pipes.
Great idea, and as for towel holders, there is already four there without adding another bar. The brace or leveling arms will serve as towel hangers and on the ends withen the frame, there are the other towel holders. I'm going to make one these... Thanks for sharing this awesome idea... Thumbs Up and you have a new subscriber to your channel.
Now thats just cool. I'll be making one as soon as my pool is installed. We just bought a 33 X 54 above ground pool and waiting for the installer to do his thing. Great video.
Thanks for the video, I am making three this week. The towel holder is a great idea, but I don't need it as I made a towel rack. I am using a two three way "T" on the top ends this will eliminate one two elbows and two "T". (A tips) Also if you cut a coupling in half these halves could be placed in the center to support the plexiglass as you screw it.. This way it won't bow in the center
Done. I messed it up though. When I glued the cross beams that you screw the top onto I could not get the bottom level and it created an issue with leveling it on the pool. I then cut the 2 beams in half and used 2 couplers to join it back together. It worked out great and now I don't need the washers to hold the top up since the couplers make it all level across. I also painted it with gray plastidip. Looks great. The Lexan was pricey. To get a good thickness for this job it was about $60. I went thinner, but am not happy with the quality.
You should use couplings in the center of the two longer pieces on top. That way it is the same height as the edges and you dont need to find correct side washers. The plexi should probably have some guards on the edges so it is not sharp and cuts someone. If there was a way to eliminate screws to maintain a flat surface that would be best. Maybe compress the top on with threaded fittings. I also agree that glue is not essential on all the joints.
Not sure if it was already mentioned, but an added feature if you didn’t just want a clear shelf is to adhere peel and stick linoleum faux wood planks. You can get water resistant ones. Adds a little character.
Thanks for the great video, just finished mine. Only suggestion is the fittings are cheaper if you buy the contractor packs. This gives you extra Ts to add to the center of the 29 inch sections to stiffen and level the lexan.
I used a couple of T's instead of an elbow at one of the back-top corners - and made an umbrella holder. Reamed the outer T with a hole saw and a standard beach umbrella fits perfectly.
Love this! Thank you so much for making the video and sharing your idea with everyone else! I am going to purchase the supplies this weekend, add the lighting and towel bar also! Again, thank you!!
Great job, but I have used a plastic tray used to hold bread loaves or 2 litre bottles attached to the side with zip ties for years. Holds lots of stuff, and drains too.
This is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for but instead of lexan I was thinking I can use some leftover rigid vinyl plank from a flooring project. It's supposed to be water proof and would look very nice, at least for a while. Thank you for posting thiis!
I completed the frame in about 3 hours today. The top took longer because I had to wait for the glue to dry on the rigid vinyl plank. I went with Velcro as well, thinking I can remove the top in bad weather. Don’t know how the rvp will hold up but it’s easily replaced. Overall it is excellent. It will work perfectly. Lessons learned: I didn’t really account for the weight of the rvp so the shelf was set at level without the top and it moved a bit when I set the top on it. Not much tho. Still looks great! I’m hoping it serves me well for years to come. Thanks very much for posting this excellent idea.
I like the towel holder idea everybody's mentioning but consider that the towels will be next to the pool. Might want to add some sort of back board to keep the water splashing away. Another idea is to add a little basket of some sort of hooks for little things like toys, trash(bag), goggles etc.
I am finally making that table this year. I used plexie glass the first time I made it for my old pool and it did crack. This time I'm using some type of wood.
I made this last year for my Summer Wave Elite. But this year I have a 24ft steel and resin pool and the top edge of the pool is flat across the top not round or oval shape. Could you do a video on how to make the same setup for this kind of pools? .
very well illustrated. I am hoping to get a deck around my 30' found pool someday, but what would be a nice idea would be to make something using PVC that I could hang my hoses on..........you seem to be really good at figuring this stuff out. perhaps you might come up with something? thanks for making this video.......great job! I agree with an earlier suggestion for a towel rack. ours always end up on the ground..........(grandkids UGH!)
I have the segmented hoses that I use on my pool vacuum. I'm always trying to drape them over something to keep them off the ground so they stay clean. I currently put the end of my pool broom (on the pole) with the bottom end on the ground and the vacuum or broom end balanced again the side of the pool. I then drape the hoses over that - kind of in-between the vacuum or brush - over the pole but toward the inside of the pool. make sense? but I try to do it far away enough from the skimmer that it doesn't interfere with the water going toward the skimmer.
MrWetnutz I used these to make crossbars in the middle to replace washers. You have to special order them so not everyone will love that. www.pvcfittingsonline.com/1-sling-style-pvc-tee-furniture-grade.html
Fabulous DIY. But I really want to clarify the 29 in cut please. My braces are 41" from outside to outside edge. So mine need to be 41"? ( if so wish I'd have watched that before I cut them. I had to do a cut as I drive a roadster and 10 foot PVC just wouldn't fit) lol. Thanks for your time.
There are so many configurations of uprights on these pools that you would have to customize the shelf to some degree. I hope it worked out for you in the end. The measurements I have in the video are exactly what I needed and worked for this example.
@@JDee7 I think the issue here is you didn’t say what the distance between your pool poles were and how it corresponds to the PVC length. In the photo of you measuring the distance between your poles, it’s clearly more than 3’ - which would be 36” - so it’s a bit confusing how you got 29”.
I was going to make a storage bin to hold all the kids toys like noodles and floats. Now I’m thinking why not add a shelf on top with a hinge so we can just lift the top to get the floats. Thanks.
It's a great idea and I like your level of detail but I think for someone else they could probably get away with not gluing any of the joints. A rubber mallet to tighten the joints after the initial test fit and dry run would suffice 90% of the time for this. The Lexan could also be attached with double sided tape instead of drilling.
Yeah at this moment it's frustrating me to no end because I can't get them to match up. So I'm going to give up and in a little while I'll make sure everything's exact because the only 2 things should be different are the 2 29s as opposed to my 41s. I think lol
I’m doing mine with clear pvc and putting the fairy lights inside with the Solar panel to charge it so I’ll have some light when we are swimming in the evening Sister is posting the video now
Going to have to make another one my brother stole mine said he had to have it and since it was Father’s Day this weekend I gave it to him lol be making a new one later this week but will do probably post it on TikTok also when setting it up but I will give ya credit because If it wasn’t for your video I would’ve never thought of doing this I just found clear PVC piping
Using velcro sounds like a good idea. I made this last year but my plexiglass cracked. And that stuff isn't cheap. I will have to make another one this year because I'm getting a new pool this year and it is steel and resin with the wider tops on the wall of the pool. I will need to get new measurements of the new pool tops tho. It is so nice to be able to have your eyeglasses, drinks or whatever within reach. Is there something else you can use besides plexiglass?
One watcher suggested using a cutting board. They make a lexan/plastic type in all different sizes. It's thicker and won't crack under pressure or drilling.
Yes it is. Schedule forty PVC dimensions are ID (Interior Diameter) They do look a little bigger. I just measured it to be sure. Sorry for the delayed response.
Thank you for answering Robert Vance's question. I was actually going to ask what did schedule forty mean. Now I know. I have already made the pool cover holders and I want to make this shelf. So again Thank You
Only thing I see, is that the edge of the lexan or plexiglass could scrap the arm of a child - any idea's how to prevent that? Other wise this is a great idea.
I bought everything and am nervous about doing this. I am confused and wished I could see the tape measure numbers. I have the same exact type of pool, except mine is NOT Intex but Coleman. I measure it and not sure if you go from OUTSIDE the pole or inside the pole/legs of the pool. I want to do this but not sure what to do bc my pool looks the same and have watched the video a few times
If the pool is the same size the portion of the video ( time 1:12) that shows the piece dimensions should be fine. The visual aid with the numbered measurements is the actual shelf flattened out. Be sure to measure the top rail that goes all around for the thickness to be sure the top most pvc piece connected to the pool is wide enough. I hope this helps.
@@JDee7 i love this shelf we have an Intex 16×48 ultra steel frame pool its the gray frame it was our first year with this pool and we were looking for a quick idea for drink holders we actually found the older style plastic cup holders for cars the ones that hook over the arm rest we cut the little hanger tabs off with a hack saw and zip tied them to the vertical uprights 5 in all can hold a 44 oz Styrofoam cup from gas station or a beer bottle you can see in my video on my channel but l like this idea alot

I''l have to work on that. BTW which hoses? I too loved the suggestion of the towel rack. This can take many forms I suppose.
I have the segmented hoses that I use on my pool vacuum. I'm always trying to drape them over something to keep them off the ground so they stay clean. I currently put the end of my pool broom (on the pole) with the bottom end on the ground and the vacuum or broom end balanced again the side of the pool. I then drape the hoses over that - kind of in-between the vacuum or brush - over the pole but toward the inside of the pool. make sense? but I try to do it far away enough from the skimmer that it doesn't interfere with the water going toward the skimmer.
o.k. I think I got it. Let's see what I come up with.
thanks, I'll keep watching
I m constructing the shelf to place my rolled up solar cover on it. I will let you know, how it goes.
Love to see it.
Suggest using couplings in the center span to be able to forgo the washers
Perfect idea.
MrWetnutz I used these to make crossbars in the middle to replace washers. You have to special order them so not everyone will love that. www.pvcfittingsonline.com/1-sling-style-pvc-tee-furniture-grade.html
Pretty cool
Great video thanks
if you put your drill in reverse it goes through the lexan quick and easy..
Great idea and great video. Do you think it would work without the box on the sides? TY
Wish you could build mine!
I was going to make a storage bin to hold all the kids toys like noodles and floats. Now I’m thinking why not add a shelf on top with a hinge so we can just lift the top to get the floats. Thanks.
Great tutorial, what is the thickness of the lexan you use? How much thicker can you go without adding to much weight to the shelf?
It's a great idea and I like your level of detail but I think for someone else they could probably get away with not gluing any of the joints. A rubber mallet to tighten the joints after the initial test fit and dry run would suffice 90% of the time for this. The Lexan could also be attached with double sided tape instead of drilling.
Ya, totally agree. I waited on the glue (as I couldn’t find where I put it lol), and it held up just fine so held off altogether.
would be cool to add color LED lighting to the shelf :)
That would be awesome for those late night swims.
@@JDee7 they sell the pool light pods that are magnetic..perfect for this
@@rhdtv2002 do you have a link or picture of the pool light pods that you're referring to? Thanks

Yeah at this moment it's frustrating me to no end because I can't get them to match up. So I'm going to give up and in a little while I'll make sure everything's exact because the only 2 things should be different are the 2 29s as opposed to my 41s. I think lol
I was trying to send you a picture of what I have but I guess you can't do that in a reply. I don't UA-cam much
We have the same pool I want to make this today
How about taking all of the suggestions given below and making an upgraded one with measurements. Great idea and I may even attempt this myself.
great idea thanks
I’m doing mine with clear pvc and putting the fairy lights inside with the Solar panel to charge it so I’ll have some light when we are swimming in the evening Sister is posting the video now
Send me the link. I'd love to see it.
Drill with the drill in reverse and it helps to not crack the plexy or whatever you use.
Will this work on AGP's that have legs that are angled and not straight up/down? My AGP is a rectangle shape, not round.
With a little modification I don't see why not. I have not tried on that style yet. They don't seem to angle out too far so it may work as is.
Instead of gluing the last joints that you use to make it level when sitting on the pool, why can't you use self taping screws?
You certainly could. Use stainless self-tappers to prevent rust. Great idea!
Need some help please, our pool has a plastic ledge around the top and it measures about 9in. How would I adjust the measurements?
Why don't you package this ? And brand it
Is this actually 1" PVC? It looks heavier. Ready to build it as soon as I know. Thanks.
Yes it is. Schedule forty PVC dimensions are ID (Interior Diameter) They do look a little bigger. I just measured it to be sure. Sorry for the delayed response.
Perfect. Thank you.
Thank you for answering Robert Vance's question. I was actually going to ask what did schedule forty mean. Now I know. I have already made the pool cover holders and I want to make this shelf. So again Thank You
What you spend on materials?
Only thing I see, is that the edge of the lexan or plexiglass could scrap the arm of a child - any idea's how to prevent that? Other wise this is a great idea.
Good Idea again, thanks, I will make one myself for a friend.
Just use wood instead and sand the edges. Be sure to treat it first so the water doesn’t destroy it.
I just made this with 3/4" pipe and it won't stay up. :*(
This would be nice if you sale this on ebay.
fun
SO how do you take it off the pool for the winter?
Mine actually lifts right off. Proper adjusting of the side arms before they are glued is important to achieve this later.
Where can you get this lexan or acrylic from in this size?
Home Depot
Hi! Would you be interested in building one of these that will fit my pool and I can pay you for your work?
I cant fing the acrylic sheet any were what else can i use
Some people have used large cutting boards made from plastic.
geeenius
solar RGB Led lights. when it becomes dark to see the shelf an its edge. i think would help alot,
What's the total cost to build?
Including the lexan it was less than $40.00
@@JDee7 i love this shelf we have an Intex 16×48 ultra steel frame pool its the gray frame it was our first year with this pool and we were looking for a quick idea for drink holders we actually found the older style plastic cup holders for cars the ones that hook over the arm rest we cut the little hanger tabs off with a hack saw and zip tied them to the vertical uprights 5 in all can hold a 44 oz Styrofoam cup from gas station or a beer bottle you can see in my video on my channel but l like this idea alot
Modified design removing back part and all measurements.
You should have angled it so if you spill a drink it does not enter the pool water
It is slightly adjustable and I have since angled it more flat for that very reason. That's what is nice about this setup...all the helpful suggestions.
Bubbers Productions yeah I would have angled it away from the pool
