@@henrikrdstherchristie9553 I think he meant that they should have had more fame that they ever got. One of the best bands in the 1980s but the clash with Trevor Horn ruined their world domination.
Imagine this: if Trevor Horn and ZTT Records focused more on Propaganda instead of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, didn't have that ridiculous contract with them, had a standard contract with them, the lawsuit never happened, Propaganda didn't break up, and they continued with their core/awesome lineup throughout the 80's and 90's. I wonder how badass and amazing they could have been. One can only wonder /:
They would have had a couple of fantastic albums, then would have struggled to keep the momentum going. It would have been hard to follow up an album as perfect as this. Their influence would have been broader musically plus their influence would have downplayed the rise of the stockaitken& Waterman sound that ruined the latter half of the 80's.
Interesting perspective. Trevor is an amazing producer and artists but he was pushing the edge of authoritarianism at that stage of his career. Holly Johnson rightfully pushed back and rejected his fascist overdetermination, just as Mark Hollis (Talk Talk) did with his producers. At the end of the day, the artist must speak. It's their voice. Trevor augmented Yes, Seal, Frankie and so many to such an incredible degree but he couldn't restrain his zeal. He ended up destroying most of those relationships. Even with Propaganda, he neglected them then obsessed and then... it was a mess. I wish that Trevor was raised with a worldview that wasn't exclusively capitalist-libertarian exploitative. If you know what Frankie, Propaganda and the rest sing about, it's leftist emancipatory worldview. Trevor's right-wing capitalist artist colonialism just ensured he would never be able to collaborate with these artists to reach even greater levels. That said, everything they collaborated on was astounding. Many of our lives are impacted by these songs. Thank you to all of them.
I'm going to play devil's advocate - the album has three killer singles and "Dream Within a Dream". Take them away and it's very slight, although it all sounds wonderful. They didn't have enough material for a whole album and would have struggled to follow it up no matter what happened.
Correctly it would be "Kein zurück für dich" ;-). BTW, do you also recognize 3:32: "Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand, wer ist die Schönste im ganzen Land." -> Schneewittchen
It took me 40 years to understand this line - and I am german and I didn't got the one german sentence... "Kein Zurück für dich!". This version brings tears to my eyes. Claudia and Suzanne still look gorgeous!
In my top 5 albums of ALL TIMES.... phenominal musicality, geniusly orchestrated and briljant interludes... goose bump understated vocals... they blew me away in 1984... and they bloody hell still do... what a waste.... and what a gift this one gem.
Now this is the proper propaganda i swear by, what an incredible vibe decades later, an absolute phenomenal timeless classic sound. March twenty twenty two 👍😎👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Even that I am a (Hard)Rocker since I was a little boy (Nazareth "Razamanaz" was one of my first own records back in the early 70's as example) I just love this song since it came out in 1984, especially the original 10-minutes 12-inch mix. I was a DJ then and discovered the song by pure hazard while checking through the "new" 12-inches in my record store. Now, almost 40 years later, this song hasn't aged or become dusty or "outdated" - and rare are the songs that do this effect. In 1984 and still in 2023 this is an absolute epic masterpiece and eternally on my all-time favorites playlist ♥
I can’t believe how many musicians are on stage. This is probably the richest, most symphonic version of this wonderful title
In early 1985, I listened to the freshly released album "A Secret Wish" of Propaganda. It was really amazing experience. A new stream of German Synthpop emerged then. So thank you, The Twins, Propaganda, Alphaville and others. Thanks for all the the music". God Bless You. Danke Sehr.
A super band of my youth! The album is excellent! I rediscovered it on a cassette tape I played in my vintage car, a citroën CX GTI of 1979. The final title "Final word" is so beautiful, prestigious, with a dramatix melody.I saw other live performance of the band in the 80'S ; they are brilliant, full of energy.I'm so admirative because the germans are generally very "square" and tight when they play but PROPAGANDA are very good musicians and they "swing" when they play. The girls (Claudia Brücken and Susan Freytag) are very beautiful. What a pity that they made only one album!Christophe from france.
i have listened to this for a couple of weeks and I can't get itn out of my head.. beautiful, haunting, powerful, subtle, it has everything ... this is art in musical form...
I had this on my Walkman everywhere I went. I used to test the best Hifi stack systems out in the shops by sticking this on the cassette player. Never had any complaints from shop owners. Always had people coming up asking who it was.
When musicians are so gifted to twist so well our point of view about making music is just .. wow, keep on twisting it, keep on giving us things to surprise us, yeah, the true engine of life fans
I love this song since the first time i heard it, i think it was in 1984, since then i became a fan of these guys, specialy Claudia Brucken, she's fantastic...
It`s unbelievable, fantastic and realy "tasty" music-all space around full of sounds-amazing!!!!When I hear that, then fiel so young!!! I love that-80`s the best allways!!! Danke!!! Thank`s!!!
Spectacular, one of the best videos on UA-cam. Finally, the DVD of the entire concert is available in America. it would have really been something if they had done the entire "A Secret Wish" album at this concert.
This performance is an all time gem! I discovered Propaganda in the late 80s thanks to Greg Stumps ski movies. The sountracks to his movies featured many of Propaganda's and Act's songs. Unfortunately Propaganda was not played much in the states. But I consider them to be one of the greatest bands ever. Caudia's voice is so unique, guttural and beautiful all rolled into one. I love their avant-garde approach and artistic license. Thanks for posting , I can't watch it enough.
Awesome.... Propaganda is one of my alltime favs. I like Duel, BitterSweet and P-Maschiney most..... puh... und das schon ganz schön lange. #findichganzgutausrufezeichen
What a fantastic performance of an excellent track, I was just listening to the CD (bought in 1985) and wondered if their videos were on UA-cam. Glad to see they are, and this one is gem! They sound amazing.
Have I died and gone to Heaven? This is freaking awesome....I haven't stopped listening to them since I first bought Dr Mabuse over 20 years ago... Good music will never go out of fashion.
Yes, Trevor Horn created their sound that they got famous with, he is an essential piece of the puzzle. Really like their live performances, a lot of the studio sound and atmosphere is retained
Wonderful to see this so many years later. One of my favourite 1980s albums
genius stroke... after 20y live in wembley, german "lost'' band. absolutely perfect.
This is just sublime. - Claudia Brucken and Susanne Freytag are incredible. This has lost none of its magic and noir and power! ❤
Who's still listening to this masterpiece in 2024/2025 ?!?

Geht mir genauso so 😊
Wo ist die Zeit geblieben....
Clearly one of the most underrated bands of the 1980s.
Underrated? Only by ignorants. One of my favourite bands at the time.

A far more innovative band than Frankie, better songwriters too. Classic album.
amazing band, production was some of the best in the 80s
@@abigailsda1 totally agree 💯
A fucking masterpiece! 80s forever!!
All thanks to Trevor Horn, the best producer ever imo!
Timeless ...in 100 years this will be the classical music
20 years later and they even sound better. What a timeless piece. What a mastermind production.
Ero un ragazzino quando ascoltavo questa musica. Anni 80. Fantastici

When Claudia sings "Kein Zurueck fuer Dich" at 3:13, I get GOOSEBUMPS! This is indeed an amazing live version, perhaps the best one ever recorded.

Great musicians, great singers, great version!
An orchestra for the ears, which is an incredible musical experience.
In my opinion the most underrated band of the 80's. I saw them 3 years ago backing Heaven 17 and Claudia and Suzanne still have it
still one from the best - the live version is so unbelievable - and now it is again 15 years later
Loved Propaganda, ACT, and later Claudia’s solo career. Saw Propaganda at the Beacon in NYC. What an experience! Phenomenal!

First there was Krafwerk and then there was Propaganda! Industrial, steel, rhythm. A lot is owed to Trevor Horn. Carl.
No. First there was Tangerine Dream.
Yes, Trevor Horn created their sound that they got famous with, he is an essential piece of the puzzle. Really like their live performances, a lot of the studio sound and atmosphere is retained
Actually Trevor had very little to do with this album. Steve Lipson produced it in almost it's entirety. Trevor was involved in one track only.
im with u on this one bill
what a treat to have been there!!!!
Impressionante quanti strumenti ! 🙂😍
