I don't think they're slow because of Bob weir or anybody else being too old, I think that's what John likes. Help on the way isn't even a remotely fast tempo song to begin with. I wanted so much for them to be good, even with John Mayer. It's been years now and they still just sound slow and sloppy, insincere. John is aggressively shallow, superficial, and boring as a performer and a musician, however "good" he may be. Bobby should not be singing. I'm not saying any of this out of hatred or anger. It's sadness and disappointment.
You have to look at this differently. Bob is old as hell and beat up, thats what happens to these guys as they age after a full life on the road. As for John, he’s about the only guy that could even try and play this role and make it work at all. It’s more of a nostalgic historical celebration at this point than showing up expecting a 70s era prime performance.
@@AlwaysIrishINC Got to disagree with you, Irish. I'm 50. I've spent my whole life watching old rock stars revive their careers over and over and over again, well past Bob's age. Aging does have its effects. I think cigarette smoking takes a hell of a toll, too. I can appreciate that, but at the same time if his voice is shot, it's shot. As for John, whatever his technical ability, he has no heart and no soul in his playing or singing. As far as nostalgia goes, I think of the future when I think of The Dead. I think of the moment. "If all you got to live for is what you left behind/Get yourself a powder charge & seal that silver mine/I lost my boots in transit, babe/a pile of smokin' leather/Nailed the retread to my feet & prayed for better weather."
I agree Help has never been one their faster numbers, but this version does seem pretty slow. I love the version from RFK in 1991 with Bruce Hornsby. I definitely miss Phil on help, nothing against Otel, he is great but Phil was more unpredictable. The one thing I hear from D&C is a change of drumming compared to the GD. Way less cymbal crashes and the drums don't seem as loud. This is real evident on a song like Terrapin.
@@matthewatwood8641 I picked you because of all the wisdom you've obviously accumulated in your 50 years. You were 5 when I saw the Dead at Winterland. You were 3 when I saw Dylan and the Band. You weren't even born when I saw Cream, Hendrix, the Kinks and a bunch of other groups. For some strange reason I don't seem to be able to value your musical opinion. Sorry.
@@mikem668 I'm glad you feel so good about it. I'm happy for you that you got to see all those concerts. It's not a big deal to me either way if you don't value my opinion. It is what it is. Not for nothing, but I don't think you would disagree with me that music is for everybody. Definitely sounds like you saw Good Will Hunting.
I had such a magical time at this show! Thanks for posting this. Beautiful memories.

What a magical night at a legendary venue. Wow! Wrigley Field. I never thought I would witness. Thanks for sharing
I’ve been listening to the live record but seeing them play it too is amazing
Just realizing in this show we got a Scaret > Fire AND Help> Slip> Franklin!!!
Wow.......
😎☝️😎☝️😎
In Hartford the band was on fire and it will become the most memorable performance of this year. Pure joy.
Fire
Lmao at all the people in here crying it’s too slow. Jerry is dead guys, Time to accept change.
Do they play the slow ones fast?
Do they ever play "your body is a Wonderland"?
I thought it was “Your Bobby is A Wonderland”

Boooring!
Probably because you have little history listening and seeing this legendary band. Like the roof it's over your head.
Not over anybody head , it's just not entertaining. Mayer ruins everything he sings. Awful
Thanks for sharing your awesome opinion.

Ain’t No Time to Hate….
Zzzzzzzzzzzzz. You'd have to be out of your mind to actually pay to see this band. Holy snoozefest.
When you're there communing with the audience it becomes a heart worming experience.
@@FrankJVania I don't like heart worms.
Totally agree, I would be out in 2 songs. This is the worst incarnation of the dead ever.
Was there. Great shows and this was a great tour. Band sounded awesome. NFA ⚘
Is it me….. or have they slowwwwedddd down more than they already had …. 🥲
They have . Was at both shows. The band was great except a little too slow .
