Don’t remake Jaws. Make a movie about the making of Jaws. It’s one of the most interesting stories in Hollywood.
It has already been done. "The Shark Is Still Working" is a great documentary on the making of "Jaws".
Not a documentary, a film. With actual actors cast as Spielberg and the cast and such. Much along the lines of the Elton John movie Rocketman. I’ve seen The Shark is Still Working. But that’s not a film that’s a documentary.
@@leiagirl9715 Tye Sheridan should play Young Spielberg
Jack Quaid should play Richard Dreyfuss
Luke Evans should play Robert Shaw
Bill Hader should play Richard Zanuck
And Roy Scheider should be played by....umm.
That man had such a distinct looking face. I can't think of any actor that resembled him.
What a fantastic idea! I never thought of this.
That's a GREAT idea. Kind of like the amazing movie based on the making of The Room, the Disaster Artist. I'd be on board for that.
Jaws: keeps us out of the water.
Jaws remake: keeps us out of the theater
Brickbuilder 010101 Yup
Just like Jaws the Revenge.
Fml thats bloody funny!!!!
:-)
"Just when you thought it was safe to back into the theatres."
Two words: Land Shark
The book the meg is based of is really good. Sadly they decided to throw out 90% of the content from the book, and turn it into another generic shark movie.
I absolutely hated that movie omg. Worst writing of the year 2018
They did the same thing with Matt Damon's The Bourne identity. After the first ten minutes, the movie discarded almost all of the novel. I have no idea why filmmakers/screenwriters do this.
"Generic" No it's not a good movie, but it's a hell of a lot funnier than those drama riddled shark movies. Jason Statham swimming towards a meg actually pulling a "just keep swimming, just keep swimming" had me fucking rolling and you cant tell me that wasn't fucking ridiculous and brought on by Finding Nemo, bro.
Honestly, if they stuck to humor more it would have been a much better movie.
Or I guess, following a book.
Fun mindless watch for me.
@@casualcallie7195 no its not better than all those drama riddled shark movies, your just dumb and easy to please
They wouldn’t just stop at a remake, they’d want to make an entire Jaws cinematic universe which would inevitably flop hard. NEVER REMAKE JAWS!
Make Jaws 5 instead
themadrapper101 I’d prefer Jaws 5 to a remake
A Jaws Cinematic Universe!? Don't tease me darling ;]

Tronnyverse - agree!!
You almost had it, the Jaws remake will do to the theatre
Please don’t remake jaws.
Hollywood: We heard your pleas not to. Consider it done starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the shark 🤣🤣🤣
Lady Cheyne 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 o my god thanks for this response it is funny as fuck !
Life will go on
Damian Starks why not ?
They can make it but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as good as the original. If they want to waste dollars, go for it !!!!!
JAWS is in the category of what I call "Untouchable films," meaning films which should NEVER be remade, like The Godfather, Casablanca, etc. Never EVER remake JAWS.
They remade "Psycho", "The day of the Jackal", "The Fog", and they are all quite poor relative to the original.
"The Thing" 1982, is a decent remake,"Invasion of the body snatchers" 1978 is good. Cannot think of many remakes that work.
Get some original ideas....if possible!!
@@martinhughes2549 scarface is good.
@@Bowiiihowdy The Al Pacino one is quite good . But it's almost a totally different film to the original. But yeah, I'd add that to a decent remake/reimagining.
@Martin- take the word “decent” and replace with “superior” in front of The Thing 1982
@@martinhughes2549 Cape Fear remake was pretty good IMO.
I'm genuinely curious as to what happened to those people who made the animatronics for Deep Blue Sea. Those animatronic sharks were INCREDIBLY life-like, they could literally swim on their own without the need of extra equipment, and their movements perfectly replicated that of real sharks. And on top of that, their designs looked so real.
But they had the animatronic tiger shark that looked like the makos lol
I just watched a youtube video about that, actually! It's pretty interesting. They were talking about potentially replacing the animals at marine parks with animatronic animals. They've already got an animatronic dolphin that looks and acts totally real! ua-cam.com/video/AZeyHTJfi_E/v-deo.html
@@Tommyblueeyes
The "Tiger Shark" in the film was just a repainted Mako animatronic.
I would say even Quint* is different by the end of the film. He's at least half the the man he was when the movie started.
Do you mean Quint?
Boooom Tshhh!!!
:-)
(Steve Mora - I get the feeling that he did)
Booooo lol
Joke makes no sense. Quint wasn't bitten in half. He was eaten whole. But he was definitely a much *deeper* character by the end of the film.
😱 HAHAHA.
He also decided to change his character name with his OWN birth name... "Robert" (Shaw). Aka: B O B 😯
No Robert Shaw and too much CGI. Reasons enough to never do a Jaws remake.
No roy scheider
And Richard Dreyfus is too old. Also the lack of chemistry.
CGI ruined James Bond.
Dont 4get they could and would cgi Quint Broady and a young Hooper...smh
@@DieHardChevyMan good point

As an uber JAWS fan (original film), this is the best argument against a reboot. Very well done.
There's no need for a remake! The original is still relevant and scary.
And Scary Is Good!

I just want a movie of the story Quint told on the “Orca.”
That would be epic
One of the things that I thought was interesting about “Jaws” was that the name of Quint’s boat was called “Orca!”
Why is that interesting?
@@gregbernard7861 because orcas hunt sharks
@@Doom_Squid_Son oh yeah
@@gregbernard7861 And shortly after Jaws came out an copycat film called Orca Killer Whale came out. Though it's not too bad a film.
There was a rivalry between Jaws Franchise and Orca.
What they should do is a movie of the Ramree Island massacre where crocodiles actually devoured the Japanese troops in the swamps fleeing the allies
Any remake could never recapture the chemistry of those three actors.
Exactly! That’s my beef with so many films today. The characters are so disposable and uninteresting to the point where they don’t even add to the plot so that when a character dies it doesn’t have the desired effect, unlike Jaws where the dialog feels so natural and not forced. It FEELS real and flows perfectly. It’s like the characters actually lived through the stories they tell and it draws the audience in like someone’s telling a scary story around a campfire. So many of todays films just miss that magic.
I was listening to a couple guys do an audio commentary for Jaws, and the topic came up of a remake. One of the guys actually had what I thought was a pretty good idea, and that was to do a sort of loose prequel based on the 1916 shark attacks that happened in New Jersey. It was the inspiration for Peter Benchley to write the book, and was also mentioned in the film itself. What was really cool about his idea was the ending for the movie he came up with. Basically, the camera would zoom out over the water, travel what's supposed to be a great distance and many years into the future. Eventually the camera would pan up from the water and onto an island. Amity Island 1975. From a distance you see a young woman running towards the water taking her clothes off as she goes. At this point some of Chrissie's dialogue from the opening of Jaws is spliced in. Just as she's about to enter the water, a shark's fin pops out of the water, and those two famous notes from John Williams score play. Fade to black and the movie ends where the original Jaws began.
What's great about that idea is it's not a sequel. or a remake. As I said, it would be sort of a loose prequel, but even there the only real thing tying the two films together would be that ending. The movie could very much stand on it's own and not step on the toes of the original film in any way, but it could still make that little connection right at the end.
Completely agree with that. The jaws story itself in my view should not be touched but some form of prequel along the lines of the New Jersey attacks in 1916 or the USS Indianapolis with a young quint would work, however, certain things would have to be taken into account to make those storylines work and make them be really good films. Ideally you would want to keep the same formula of not showing much of the shark and building the suspense like in the original jaws film which was the main source for the horror. Unfortunately with the suicidal script writing for big films these days in Hollywood and the insistence on using cgi over great visual effects and props I can’t see it happening
That could be a good idea the problem I see is as usual the studio would go overboard with cgi that looks incredibly fake they would need to make it like jaws where you don’t really see a whole lot of the shark for most of the movie that’s what made the original so good was the suspense

@@AubreyTheKing I mean, there are like 12 Friday the 13th films, 9 of them happening in the span of 13 years, before the year 2000. A part of Hollywood has always been dedicated to churning out sequels/reboots and other shit.
My dad’s written a terrific, original action movie, planned out the logistics, the stunts, the model/miniature effects (NO CGI Shots unless ABSOLUTELY necessary) but Hollywood shot him down when he approached agencies trying to attach a top director (Sam ‘Skyfall’ Mendes) and bankable talent. They’re losing a fuckload of money due to their ignorance of what the public want. He’s talking about starting a new British studio like Warner’s or Universal and release it that way, using the billions it will generate to self-finance the next few films he produces, using the same production talent hiring formula...top director and proven crew who can get it made for him. By competing directly with Hollywood using AMERICAN style filmmaking and established star actors, the films he is preparing will shock everyone when they are released. Using strong, solid character development and character identification, and stories of cathartic resonance, audiences will be lining around the block. People can laugh at this all they like, take the piss till they’re blue in the face, but I’ve SEEN what he’s planning and while Hollywood dies on its arse with sex/pedophilia scandals and over-reliance on shitty product, he WILL have the last laugh.
As for a Jaws remake, Hollywood bear witness...with every remake or reboot you toss off, your own legacy will suffer ever further. Shame you’re all too fucking blind to see it coming...isn’t it?!

The thing with Jaws was that it was the first time the audience had seen anything like that. It was mind blowing and special.
Today, in a world where basically every other movie contains 500 space ships, Gozilla-like monsters or just general CG-fuckery, a movie like Jaws isn´t special any more.
It will take a whole new level (or experience format, like VR) to reach that same novelty.

A lot of concern about remaking Jaws revolves around doing so with the movie set today. That wouldn’t work. If there were a killer shark today, authorities would just go out and blow it up with a rocket launcher. lol. A remake would have to be set in the 70s but then reimagined. Show the audience what it didn’t see before. Show the shark swimming away with chrissie. Same with alex. Actually show what would really happen. But don’t change the story. Cast would have to be perfect.

They want to do the bit with Hooper sleeping with Brody's wife, so they can be all edgy and expecting people to cheer when he gets eaten too.
That was how the movie was superior to the book. The novel had that whole extraneous plotline. An unnecessary distraction. 🦈
No, if they do a remake, Hooper would sleep with Brody himself.
Haha...saw the film very young. Didn't read the book until years later. Always wondered why the wife acted weird when Hooper showed up at their house, boy, did I find out!

Allow me to take Methos’ comment a step further...
Despite the set being PLAGUED with setbacks, Spielberg, along with cast and crew, managed to turn an absolute disaster of a production into PURE CINEMATIC MAGIC. Leave this movie alone.
Here's how it could work:
- Not a remake of the Spielberg movie, but a more faithfull adaptation of the book
- Recreation of the opening scene from the moment, the girl goes into the water. Then, after a couple of shots, insert an overhead shot of the sharks frame nearby the girl, then continue the recreation until the moment the POV comes to her legs. Now, the shark's coming from the background and eats her foot and we realize, that there was no POV of the shark at all (and never will be so that the attacks come out of silence and nowhere). Then, the girl gets eaten as described as in the book. This opening scene will do several things: 1. It will disturb the fans of the original who where eased or annoyed by the recreation at the beginning but then terrified when it changes. 2. The brutality of the attack (now shown with a convincing - at least The Shallows-level- CGI-shark) will terrify them too, because getting eaten by something is a primal fear deep within us.
- No score or shark theme at all. Only ambient sounds and songs from radios etc.
- A period piece still set in the 70's, so that modern technology or knowledge of sharks isn't applyable. (The shark in the novel acts and reacts more believable than in the movie)
- Make the shark scared and battleworn, so that the explanation for him staying is about his failing ability to hunt down agile and aware sealife, but he can easy prey on humans. Instead of lecturing about megalodons as he does in the novel, Hooper could give that explanation.
- Instead of the Indianapolis speech (which isn't in the novel), Brody could attempt to bring an M-16 on board, which Quint forbids. He could give Brody a quick speech, that he's killing sharks for decades "... with irons, hooks. With my goddamn hands." This would silence younger viewers who would argue, why they don't just shoot the shark.
- Focus on the town. This is not a movie about a shark eating people but a town on the brink of bankrupcy because of something they cannot control.
- Let the characters be as unsympathetic as they are in the novel - it will make for great acting scenes with drama and tension (if people are willing to spend years with psychotic mobsters, dying meth cooks and soziopathic serial killer killing serial killers, they will be on board for 4 hours for a new adaptation of Jaws).
- Make it a 4 hour-twoparter on Netflix. This will fix almost any initial problems, if they ever announce it. The box office won't matter, you don't need to outdo iconic posters or trailers. And because people won't feel that they have to pay for it (because once Netflix becomes a fixed payment every month like electricity or the phone bill, people look at Netflix stuff as it was "for free") they will watch it eventually.
Shite.
Interesting. I would give this a shot.
The Quint and the USS Indianapolis story never needs to be made. The way Quint tells it gives you all you need to know. Imagining it as he’s telling it will always be better than anything they filmed. The way Robert Shaw describes it is absolutely horrifying, and a perfect example of how implied Horror will always be more cerebral than explicit horror.
I accept “The Shallows” as the “Jaws” remake...
Agreed It was actually pretty good, stupid but good.
I'll buy that.

Daniel Condran there was a movie on UA-cam about the USS Indianapolis.
'Kay, you right.... But that Indianapolis pitch does sound like straight fire, I'd watch tf outta that!!
When they remake jaws, it will only work if it’s set in the 1970s
when? it will never happen mate
@@Tommyblueeyes I don’t see why not, they’ve been remaking Shakespeare the last 500 years
I definitely hope they don’t try to remake this. The only thing I could ever get behind would be the same film, re-released, with some SLIGHT and very careful CGI touch-ups to the worst of the animatronic shark shots. NO other adjusting, same shots, no additions, no removals.
...and I could be wrong but I think Brody neglected to join the “scars” conversation because he was embarrassed that his only war wound was an appendectomy scar. I always thought it was a little moment of comedic levity.
I don't think that would take much doing. It's on tv quite regularly and I usually end up watching it, and I can honestly count about 3 or 4 shots where it looks fake, and that's probably only because I'm looking out for it to see if it still looks realistic. Even so, it still looks better than some of the shitty CGI you see in other films
@@Valveus Definitely, but the great white shark in the Shallows was incredible, if ever it was re-released with some CGI touchups, the team that did the Shallows shark should 100% be brought in for that. But no, Jaws is one film that totally doesn't need a remake.
Why a "JAWS" remake will fail: nobody wants a gender-fluid shark whose pronouns are zee and zer, will call you a sharkphobe if you're not into banging sharks, and whose triggers are shark jokes.
You deserve a truckload of your favorite beer.
@@666pazuzu Cheers!
What kind of pronouns for a gender fluid shark is "zee" and "zer"? I think it's more like "wat" and "er"
@@scottvelez3154 XD
Jaws worked the first time as it was the first big budget film about a shark.
People did not know anything about sharks, so it was a believable and scary story about ordinary people. For both adults and children.
What Jaws needs is a direct sequel that heavily retcons/ignores the sequels, kind of like the H40 trilogy from the Halloween franchise. Probably mainly focus on new characters, but maybe also bring in Hooper and show how he’s changed since the original incident.
I also think Jaws is so good because of how realistic its story is.
Also, when Jaws 2 was in production, one of Spielberg’s ideas WAS the Quint-focused Indianapolis prequel, but Universal at the time said no.
They will never remake Jaws. The closest serious shark movie would have to be The Shallows and that still doesn't compare. I do like Jaws The Revenge though lol
Because they’ll try to make it all jump scares. Lol
Hollywood really needs to leave these classic movies alone they don’t need a remake
Spot on! I watched it again recently, first time in years and boy do I prefer a 'real' film to any of the CGI crap we see now. Everything in Jaws is real. No green screens, no CGI. The fact that you don't even see the shark for half the movie and its just implied makes it scarier.
The Shallows isn’t perfect but it’s the best shark movie since Jaws
_The Shallows_ was the _127 Hours_ of shark movies. Also, _47 Meters Down_ was better than _Open Water_ .
And Deep Blue Sea. :(
I agree
Also the Shark CGI when it first came out of the water in shallow reef part had me impressed soooooo if done properly you could get a good JAWS adaptation (Book).
Until the "action hero chick" ending
JAWS: Indianapolis is an absolutely brilliant idea!
Yeah. Just don't cast Nicolas Cage in it! 😆
@@christopherhibbert3754 LOL poor Nicholas, he's either awesome or batshit crazy in a movie.
leave it alone.its perfect for its time and one of the very few of my favorite movies. Watched it every time it came on with my dad growing up.remaking this movie would take away from a masterpiece of its time.
Well… dead space remake came this year, people criticized it because “dead space didn’t need a remake” and now it’s a really good game. I think a jaws remake can be good if they expand the lore and change some events to be more like the movie, with also using animatronics (or cgi) but still keeping the shark hidden with also good actors and good soundtrack.
In the shallows, why would the shark waste energy in hunting the girl when theres a delicious whale carcass really close to the girl
Manuel Fernadez she actually mentions this, I think she's recording a video and she says the shark sees her as a threat because she's in his hunting ground
Hmmmm... Blake Lively or a rotten whale carcass. Lemme think.
@@warpartyattheoutpost4987 Haha!
I really enjoyed Quint as a character and thought about buying the book. It's the only time I've seen on Amazon where reviews agree that the movie is better than the book.
FeignRaven the movie is better, but the book is a great read. I read it about 10 years ago, and was pleasantly surprised by the differences in them. I’d no idea how much was changed.
I think your Indianapolis idea with a young Quint is actually a killer idea (no pun) that could be a James Cameron and Steven Spielberg joint effort. Haha
The Indianapolis “Quint” prequel was the original concept for the sequel of Jaws, but the stupid studio heads wanted to rehash the same story so what we got instead was Jaws 2. I agree with you 100%. The Indianapolis story would be a great movie. It’s terrifying, haunting, sad, true, and it’s a period piece. The Quint tie in is a story within a story. Hell, it worked for Titanic, it would work for that as well.
I love jaws 2. Roy scheider is cool.
Little problem with that who is going to be the star of the movie good actors are few these days. Decaprio no Clooney crap Pitt not great Russell crowe shit and a crap singer denzil did 2 good films but jaws no tom hanks shit. Nicolas cage crap already did movie about Indianapolis was crap Johnny depp nope tom cruise no maybe Neeson not sure about that either its really tricky I think its impossible
“Toxic Characters”. Next I’ll hear that Jaws was a feminist.
I mean... it appeared to be an equal opportunity eating machine.
Jaws is pretty much the only legitimately good shark movie.
You forgot the 100 "based on real events"-Sharkmovies, like "Open Water", "The Reef", "47 Meters down", "Shark Bait", "The great White" & all their terrible sequels! Oh, boy...
Well said and excellent video.
Jaws is probably the greatest example of a film becoming so great because so much went wrong during the production.
It was only because it was such a disaster ridden production that in a very happy accident,Spielberg was able to take the material and the many problems they incurred and made the best lemonade from lemons probably in modern movie making.
The movie is such a great classic because so much went wrong, and a young hungry legendary director in the making managed to produce an almost perfect movie.
Nowadays, the financiers would have shit production down and have the director fired and replaced with a cheaper yes man.
Never again will so much going wrong turn into so much turning out beautifully.
If they make a remake of Jaws, here’s how it will probably go:
• Feminism
• Overused CGI
• Anything Remotely Offensive Being Taken Out
• Quint Being Not Only Slightly Sexist, But Homophobic, Transphobic, (Anything SJW’s Hate.)
• Characters Being Turned Female
And way more black people in the water to even out the diversity
The problem is when you have a film that tries to take a classic template and simply genderswap it, not organic inclusions of diversity. The story of Jaws absolutely works best as a film about masculine conflict at sea, but you all are acting like black people and women being more common in movies is a fucking threat.
Remember what they did to Ghostbusters? Star wars? And now the Marvel Cinematic Universe? 😂😂😂, they replaced it with female characters.
I remember hearing that they were going to make The Meg a movie and I was excited because I love sharks and seeing a megalodon on screen would have been awesome but they decided to make the film a goofy summer flick with Jason Statham. As soon as I saw the guy from The Office i knew the film wasn't going to be serious and even the song they chose for the trailer, I enjoyed the film but I would have loved if the film went as dark as Jaws
well at least for the most part the characters from the Meg were Likable.
@@Logan_Zimmerman ehhh... I guess. Personally I didn't find them all that interesting and got tired of how many times they fell in the water
DUDE OMG! You are so right and I felt and said the SAME EXACT THING! I was so disappointed by the whole movie and wished it was actually dark and scary like it should have been.
I really enjoyed The Meg! When have giant shark, why WOULDN'T you make it a summer blockbuster? Haha great fun, surprisingly suspenseful at times, cool action and fun characters.
It was in the works for 15 years. This was the worst possible interpretation of the novel.
I agree Jaws should never be remade, it really might be The greatest movie ever made, I’m 45 now and I’ve been watching Jaws all my life and it’s still a movie I can watch at least once or Twice a week, what a True classic and True masterpiece!!!
Apparently, people keep forgetting that Charlie And The Chocolate Factory is based on a book, and that the 2005 movie is actually closer to said book than the Wilder film.
Jaws was a great movie and it had that edge of your seat grip that made it awesome , real characters with a personality and hands on filmmaking , the animatronic shark made the movie real and much more believable , jaws rocked
3:11 No, no, Quint most definitely changed in the end, lol.
I know a lot of people say that the shark in jaws looks fake or whatever. But let's look at it from a different perspective. Jaws was made in a time when there was a lot nuclear weapons testing, a lot of which was done at sea. What if the shark in jaws is a mutated great white, which might explain it's odd appearance and behavior.
I want a movie about the making of this movie (something like James Franco's The Disaster Artist movie about Tommy Wiseau). If you read all the problems Spielberg went through you will notice a very comedic, dramatic and even adventurous story
