Can't believe Stallone never won an Oscar for any of his Rocky films, he should have won at least for part 3, this scene alone says Oscar worthy all over it. The emotion, the tension, and then Mick says "I love you kid" right before he dies and Rocky falls apart screaming and waling over his beloved trainers dead body, incredible acting here!
Stallone got where he got on his own, Hollywood doesn't like it when people get where they get on their own. He write I believe it was the first Rocky and wanted to be the lead but Holywood said no and so he took the low pay to make the film he wanted this is what got him places.

Such a powerful & emotional scene...everyone thinks of Stallone as just being Rocky/Rambo/Cliffhanger machismo, but this scene proved that there was depth to his acting. People parody this because some of Stallone's words are unintelligible, but hell, he just got the shit beat out of him in the ring & his dearest friend dies right in front of him. Burgess Meredith played his part very convincingly, even down to the exhale after taking his final breath...such an amazing actor he was!
And what people forget is that his mumble-like speech was part of Rocky’s character. If you watch any other Stallone movie, he’s much more intelligible.

The music starting and the quick pan over to Burt Young is what always gets to me. That was who Paulie was. He would show anger, but wasn’t the type to cry in situations like this. However, it’s starting to overwhelm him; so he almost hides behind the wall like a child. Very sad indeed.
Yes, he always found it hard to show emotions. It's like in Rocky II when he turns up at the hospital with flowers for Adrian, and when he sees she still hasn't come around he walks off without letting Rocky know he was ever there. You would guess he realised the seriousness of it all had hit home, and seeing Rocky keeping a vigil was too much to handle as the feelings of inferiority he often had made him believe his presence was not appropriate. Little things like that made the series very special.
The reason this is great is that this is exactly how someone would cry in real life. You don't feel like you're watching someone acting...you feel like you're watching one of your good buddies completely lose it while watching their mentor/best friend die.
I was talking to some people a while ago about this scene, they complained they couldn't understand what Rocky was saying while he was crying. For me, it adds a layer of realism, so inconsolable that you can't even make out what they're saying.
Ya, it's very realistic because it's called "ugly crying." Nobody when grieving with so much pain and sadness is going to think and calmly say their words, so ya, this is pretty realistic.
Poor Rocky! Clubber Lang threw Mickey and caused his heart attack. It was his fault his died. Clubber should've gone to jail after that because that was violently killing somebody. Great movie though!

Ok, this is something you probably won't believe. Clubber was in jail already, slightly before Rocky 3. How do I know that? Because of Rocky Legends the video game. If your not a video game fan, but a rocky fan, look up the character backstory cutscenes. They really show an interesting perspective to the characters of the rocky series

Literally the most powerful scene in all the rocky movies…so emotional and heavy on anyone’s conscious …it’s been 45 years and I still shed tears by hearing the scene alone …Stallone is such an underrated genius…he had to play the role because he is the only one that understands it !!! Kudos to his drive to write this story long ago and fight to make it a movie …all of us love to relive our youths remembering what this meant to us the first time we ever watched it …way before video recorders and dvd’s and now UA-cam :)

Rocky 3 is the 1st Rocky film I saw, on VHS at a friend birthday party in 1983, just before my own 10th birthday. I knew nothing of the Rocky films beforehand, apart from the trailers for Rocky 3 when it was released in the UK cinemas. So when I 1st saw this scene, it didn't have a massive emotional effect on me. The next time I saw a Rocky movie was Rocky 1, on Boxing day, the same year, with my dad, on BBC1. I was shocked with how poor Rocky was and how Mickey seemed to hate him. The next Rocky film I saw, in full, was Rocky 4. Then number 2. It was a weird order to see these these films but now, when I watch Mickey's death, i do feel a bit choked up, especially now my Dad is gone.This is because of how Rocky and Mickey's relationship was built in 1 and 2

I remember watching this in 86 I was in kindergarten my pops rented it VHS and I was all I to the Rocky movies by then and till this day I cry. Mickys song reminds me of my grandpa. Love it!!!
Say what u want about Stallone as an actor but he just has so much heart and passion in this role. It's impossible not to feel every ounce of pain he shares on screen and this one of the most truly heartbreaking scenes in film history, his cry still gets me to this day.

Being a coach with decades of experience, it's hard to believe that Mickey believed Rocky when he said that he won against Clubber, given the fact that Mickey attended all of Clubber's fights and knew how strong and dangerous he was, and how soft Rocky had become in the recent years

Pretty much, Rocky saw him as a great trainer, but grew to love him as a father figure too!
Don't forget, in Rambo's 2 and 3, he (Stallone) had Col. Sam Trautman as his mentor AND father figure.

I remember watching this in 86 I was in kindergarten my pops rented it VHS and I was all I to the Rocky movies by then and till this day I cry. Mickys song reminds me of my grandpa. Love it!!!

Say what u want about Stallone as an actor but he just has so much heart and passion in this role. It's impossible not to feel every ounce of pain he shares on screen and this one of the most truly heartbreaking scenes in film history, his cry still gets me to this day.

Mickey godmill the greatest all times. I never get fed up with these Rocky movies I always watch whenever it's on any channel. Big ups raco. Paulie was a second mickey to rock, great supportand we all need that kind of love and support. The movie has taught me alot about life and boxing itself. We all got a mickey and Paulie in our lives. Being a coach with decades of experience, it's hard to believe that Mickey believed Rocky when he said that he won against Clubber, given the fact that Mickey attended all of Clubber's fights and knew how strong and dangerous he was, and how soft Rocky had become in the recent years
This was one of the fee times I've cried watching movies.. Even Paulie felt bad for Rocky..with all of Paulies faults, he always stuck with Rocky
