I'm sure it was, if you were male, white and middle class. For the rest of us, maybe not so great. Though food portions were definitely a lot smaller, I remember my mom cutting a candy bar into little slices for my sister and I. We thought it was such a treat, and never thought about each getting only a half. Edit: I was 10 years old in 1968
I waited on Mr. Eubanks and his late wife years ago . What a cool guy ! TNG was a harder game to host because of its unpredictable answers and responses. Eubanks had to be very adept in going for the laughs or keeping the game moving . Not a strainght game show like some popular game shows of today but reminiscent of the Groucho Marx , half game half comedy type show .
I was 10 in '68' and probably watched this episode....not sure what happened to the quality of the video but I can assure you it looked much better on our 20 inch B&W Philco....even with Rabbit Ears covered in tin foil!!!......:>)
Whenever I watch old episodes of the NG, I can't help wondering three things: Are any of them dead (probably) 2. How many of them are still married? 3. Do the winners still have the grand prize? My husband and I played NG at a family function. We had been marred about 30 years and did terribly. I read a previous comment about a girl's inlaws being on the show. I don't know any couple who was on the NG, but the receptionist/secretary at the cosmetology school I attended had been on The Dating Game many, many years ago.
The couples were all funny. Couple #3 husband, i loved how he laughed at #2s answer. The tape went fast forward towards the end, but it was a pretty good show.
That was one of the last “Brought To You By” (B2UB) callouts in the history of game show openings. Money kept them from continuing with this habit so by 1970 it was believed to be the announcer telling us what the show’s name was, then directly moving on to introducing the host. Cigarette commercials would be dropped in 1971. Now you tube does the commercial breaks first on many songs or shows!
Wow. The year I was born. I was a little over 3 months old. A very young Bob Eubanks. As far as the couples....how old are they now(guessing 70-80'ish)? Both still alive? If so, are they still married?? Blast from the distant past. Thank you so much for posting! Edit: So appreciative that I went ahead and sub'ed.
The male in couple #1 looked like he was going to hit his wife for mentioning his hair piece. He kept on making a fist and looking at her. Not funny at all.
Perhaps you're being tongue-in-cheek, but Barris was never in the CIA; all that was just a product of his fertile imagination. The original daytime "Newlywed Game" aired on ABC from 1966-1974; the prime time version, which this show is from, was on ABC from 1967 to 1971. It aired on Saturday nights with "The Dating Game" during most of its evening run.

Great seeing the Raleigh cigarette coupon commercial, remembering my grandfather that passed from lung cancer
This show was so much fun! We rarely missed it back in the 1960s. What happened at the end there, I thought I was on an LSD trip! 😜
Love all the oldies ..the are so shy in those games👌
The commercials are almost as entertaining as the show! Shows how far technology has come in the last 50 years!

Even though the ending is a little messed up, this is great. We always watched this when I was younger.
I’m so glad they won, what a cute couple , hopefully they remained married
Couple number one was darling too!!! Her husband was hilarious!
it started with the black guy's hair piece, then the next guy's foot fetish, then the next guy's reaction. By far the funniest episode I can remember
The guys laughing about the foot fetish was hilarious!
Anybody else notice that was Betty White (RIP) in the Fantastik commercial?? LOL xx
I love the look on Henry's face when his wife revealed that he wears a hairpice.
Priceless!

A true Newlywed Game classic from 1968, great game show!!
I actually find the “You can always expect the unexpected on The Newlywed Game” better than “Here come the Newlyweds”.
