JF was my favorite to win even over Brian and Tom Was gutted when you could tell he was injured, as was he (that look on his face definitely told a story) But when JF pulled a page right out of Kaz’s book and soldiered on, and still tied for first place in the deadlift...you could tell how badly he wants this. And I’m sure some will argue this, but if JF didn’t get injured I feel that gold would have been his Quite possibly the most underrated man in the sport, but also DEFINITELY one of the best 💪
@@dragon81heart he pushed his countryman onto the podium as well. We all talk about Luke fluffing the placing for Tom... meanwhile the rest of the guys are building little alliances of their own 😉
What this tells me: Brian can still win. He's improved drastically over the last few years, and could have won with 2 more reps on the log or 3s faster on the train, or a few extra kg on the log. He got the speed he needed, now he just needs to get a bit more static back.
I think the biggest help was his pivot into more endurance movements. His performance on the train table push was probably what cost him the 5th title. Disappointed for him, but stupid happy for Tom's win.
I really want Brian to win but I think Tom is going to take it. Brian is experienced and he's won WSM over the stones in the past...but Tom is younger and quicker on his feet. It's going to be an extremely entertaining event thats for sure.
The organisers really need to do a complete overhaul of WSM. Make it live on terrestrial tv or Sky Sports, BT Sports. Instead of showing it on tv 5 month's later, the popularity of strongman is pretty big worldwide now. And in the UK with Hall winning it a few years ago and now my fellow Scotsman Tom Stoltman winning it.
@@michaelmayers3622 It's time to stop being patient with World's Strongman Man from a media rights standpoint. It's time to put pressure on WSM to evolve. CrossFit, a sport that is way younger than Strongman and in many ways is the opposite side of the coin (one sport focuses on intensity/intensiveness and the other volume), just has more eyes on it because the people who run it understand the current media landscape. The is one of the few remaining sporting events that is still being covered like it's 1997, and it's literally made for this era of entertainment viewing.
I watched it live. Tom fell to the ground overwhelmed with emotions and Luke jumped up and down like a kid at Christmas. Pointed to the sky to honor his mother who passed. It was very emotional.
I took care of autistic children for over 7 years to help pay my way through school. I cannot (even as an American, who loves Brian) tell someone how happy I am. When your perceived disability is really an ABILITY. I hope Tom continues to shed light on this subject. Congratulations to both brothers 👏 ❤
This past year i discovered i was autistic and it made so much sense after struggling so much in my teens. Tom is a huge motivation for me to keep at my goals and know that i can indeed achieve anything despite my struggles.
@@Kyjinn I really, and sincerely wish you the best. I understand the struggle day to day, not only of the individual but also of the parents and family who love that person. I hope that as you now have this understanding of ASD, that you can move forward in a positive way. 🧩
I can see Brian going another year after he was so close with a new weight plan. Was some of the best performances he has had in years. I bet he will continue to get in better shape for the next year. He's been doing it less than a year and looked loads better. I can see him making one more hard run before hanging them up.
He can be the next Felix as far as I'm concerned! If I get to see Shaw compete in a dozen more comps, still breaking records, still doing what he loves f*ck it, it'll be fun
I don’t quite understand why people think Brian Shaw should retire. He wants to win WSM for sure, but he also just loves the sport, plain and simple, and given this surge in standings between 2020 and 2021, Brian’s still got a lot of fire in him yet. Whether or not he ever wins again is debatable, but regardless, I’d be happy to see him bring the heat no matter how he places in the future. Mark Felix has been participating in WSM since 2006, and he’s still putting out 15 years later. No reason why Brian should have to quit just because he doesn’t place first amongst the world’s very best strongmen.
I think the biggest difference between Brian and Mark is the fact that Brian's won WSM 4 times and Marks never won any. Brian is considered one of the GOAT's in the sport, Big Z number one and then Brian and Pudz in no particular order. I can imagine it's very hard, mentally, to keep competing knowing your best days are behind you yet you desperately want/need that 5th title and then maybe a 6th. Brian is trying to cement his legacy further by getting that 6th title but he keeps falling short the last few years. Mark Felix is simply competing for fun, he knows he won't win one but he's having fun so he keeps going. I don't think Shaw will ever have the same mindset, regardless of how much he loves the sport, it'll be hard for him to keep competing, especially when he has the realisation that another title won't happen. I believe he'll be back next year after this year's placing, he smashed it this year but unfortunately lost to a very very deserving champion in Tom Stoltman.
@Samoht ,Lord of Eternal Darkness and Chaos Thor didn't really have any health problems until he ballooned up to 440-450lbs for his 501kg deadlift. Trust me, if Brian decided to slim down he'd look just like Thor body wise, they're both 6'8 and 6'9.
Brian has said that if he thought he couldn't win wsm he wouldnt go. He came in to competition in amazing form and still lost to tom. I think he will compete for a couple years but a brian shaw in that form a couple of years ago would have absolutely dominated the compition. Its only going to get harder for him to get into this form from now on. As a scotsman im happy tom won but as a fan of the sport i would have loved brian to win
Feel for Luke, so unlucky also having to do deadlift in both heats and final. Hopefully with year of work on his new deadlift stance he can get a podium next year.
so gutted for luke, but i have no doubt that the second tom won he no longer cared about his stone run and was just so proud and happy. what an amazing performance by both spicy stoltmans!! legends. Toms win is just as much lukes as it is Toms! No doubt we will all be in tears when we finally see the footage of luke and tom together after the win!
This WSM will be a blast to watch! Wow! So many cool moments since the heats, the group 5 battle, Novikov not getting into the finals, Tom destroying day 1 of the finals, Brian fighting until the last moment with a keg toss world record, JF Caron with an injured hamstring and still doing 10 reps in the deadlift, Unfortunately Luke dropping his last stone and losing the podium, and the final battle between Tom and Brian on the stones, what a contest ladies and gentlemen!
Thanks so much for the recaps! Crushed about Luke. Wished Brian could have pulled it off just for everything he’s done for strongman but what a phenomenal job battling it out with Tom. Still laughing about whoever said he wouldn’t get out of his group 😂 maybe next year 😉. Can’t wait for the Shaw Classic! Congrats Spicy Tom amazing job! 2/3 of a dream came true just need to get Luke an amazing Strongman on that podium. Funny enough I thought Maxine might sneak on that podium😄
Brian's time is over now. He might get another placings om podium but not winning, since Tom and others are just too good competition. Brian can beat tom only in deadlift and kegtoss maybe.. And even there it is close. In all other events tom wins over brian with a good margin. Will be nearly impossible to close that gap, since tom is also young and improves at a faster speed for sure
Amazing. I wanted Brian or Tom to win. Both for obvious reasons. Them coming down to the stones 1v1 is crazy. Brian still has it and Tom has his well deserved win.
@@tomels8 Imagine if a healthy Kieliszkowski would have competed. That would have been very very close between Shaw, Kieliszkowski and Tom Stoltman. Kieliszkowski is a fucking machine potentially even stronger than Tom. I guess that if Kieliszkowski somehow manages to get to his old form he is better than Tom. Tom is not weaker. But Kieliszkowski is so explosive and his grip is insane and he is good in every single event but not the deadlift. Kieliszkowski became 2nd in WSM I think 2 or 3 times. And a couple of times in the Arnolds. But I think it's Tom who has the advantage in the next years...
So happy for Tom. Luke did such a phenomenal job as well this competition, sad to see him drop down off the podium from the stones and deadlift but I hope he comes back next year just as hungry and pulls it off with Tom.
Damn I called it... Came down to the Stones and Tom has indeed taken the mantle for Best stone lifter from Brian. Well deserved win. I was a believer the 5th Title was his this year... Idk now if its possible next year even.
I hope he gives it another go. I really want to know what he has to say about that train push. He could have won if it wasnt for that. He was training to push, as well, with the trucks.
@@jeroenvandend no the second stone bounced a bit which lost too much time. Brian and Tom were going at the same rate when they put both stones up, but Brian's second stone bounced up and he had to make sure it stayed cuz it was gonna fall. In the end a bit of bad luck got Brian. The winner would have been decided by who could get that last stone up, but we'll never know because of the stone bounce.
Unfortunate Luke finished 7th but I can’t even imagine how proud he is of his little bro, I had a feeling this was Toms year and I could not be happier, well deserved win for sure
Watching you guys break everything down this week was such a joy. Your passion and knowledge for the sport come out so effortlessly, and with the way your excitement bounces off and elevates each other, I was looking forward to these recaps almost more than the WSM results!
This has been one of the most interesting finals in recent years, just looking at the score sheets - I really hope WSM comes around in regards to livestreaming. Congratulations Tom, very well deserved win! I'm absolutely gutted for Luke though, he was in such a good position before the stones and I imagine being on the podium with his brother on his first ever win would have ment even more. Thank you Loz and Liz for helping me stay excited, really my favorite Strongman channel on youtube!
@@macnewton1156 Not really, Shaw won the keg toss fair and square but i wouldn't say the gap is so huge. Tom won by 10 seconds on the stones, that's a huge gap especially at WSM standard.
Mateusz Stone to shoulder 2019 Arnold classic was more impressive. He did 5 reps and all other athletes combined had 4 (if I m not mistaken) but yeah tom is a monster in this event.
Liz and Loz are true ambassadors of the sport and I absolutely love their coverage of WSM. Thanks for your dedication. I was one of the 15k watching your live stream last night. God Bless you. Brilliant for Tom! An absolute LEGEND! And huge for Brian. He proved not only to us but to himself that he is STILL the strongman he was in 2016 and before. Really hope he doesn't retire as next year could truly be title no5?
It does feel like if he could keep in good shape - a la Mark Felix - for a few years that he could get lucky and push through to a win. But it would come to down a fair bit of luck in what the events are and who showed up
@@littleratblue I agree. And while Brian may be passed his prime, I don't think he is as far from it as we all thought. The difference of a few more deadlift reps or being slightly quicker on the turntable could have given him the win. Really excited to see Brian next year! He should be really happy

3 points behind the win isn't a shame at all. I'm still happy for Brian. And next year will be a deciding year for Brian wether to get his 5th or not. Maybe if Martins and Mateusz potential comeback might stop him winning? But I am really wanted to see a 5th this year.
Everyone absolutely shattered expectations in this final and had great results. Even Luke who had a crushing fall on the leaderboard, like Loz said he preformed consistently amazing throughout the comp up until the last bad luck moment. Props to Tom and everyone else in this final. Amazing

A lot of people (not all) are acting as if Brian failed, and he should be put out to pasture. He just placed 2nd in the world and not drastically far behind. Seems like an odd conclusion to draw.
Very enjoyable coverage! Well done! Tom is a giant and a deserved winner, however, my heart bleeds for Brian. What a gentle giant, what an ambassador for WSM, what a track record... such an amiable example to the whole of WSM competitors and supporters. I’m in awe for both of them.
I hope the World's Strongest Man organization and all the other strong man event organizers give Tom and Luke some kind of recognition or bonus for drawing in so much drama and eyes on the sport! Think about how different this competition would have been without those two guys! And I'm not sure but Luke defeating last year's Champion may have helped his brother Tom as well.
yeah I wondered about how Luke's performance could make things easier for Tom. Beating Novikov aside, he could deliberately throw some events to finish just behind Tom to increase points gap between Tom and those behind. Not saying he would but I'm surprised there's not more talk about the tactics of having brothers in the final
Beating Novikov was a big deal but I don’t think there is much value in throwing events at all because they don’t know how others will do. Maxime could have beaten Brian with a more competitive deadlift. It could have been a very different result.... so throwing an event will only make sense if they were head to head on the podium.
Well done Tom!! Congrats for such an awesome showing and you deserve to be WSM. Such a great advert for autism too. Well done Luke as well. So proud of you boys for taking everyone along for the journey through UA-cam, etc . Great effort by Brian, shows how diet plays an important part in strongman and in life. Boos to the WSM management for not showing it live or delayed or in a daily highlights package. I feel for the athletes here, they didn't get to showcase their strength and skills to the world via live TV.
It's bizarre how much weight is given to stones: it's the event that gets you into the final if you come 2nd or 3rd in your heat, and it's the event that makes you the winner (or on the podium) if you end up with a tie; and for half the finalists, it's an event you do twice. Being good at stones gives you massive advantage compared with other events. Not taking anything away from Tom, delighted for him, but it's just one of many aspects of WSM that makes it a TV show first, a legitimate attempt to determine the world's greatest strength athlete second.
Tom Stoltmam deserves the win, he's the beast in this year and almost does not show his weakness. But Brian Shaw's improvement is also wild from previous comps, kinda great comeback after all along his defeeat back in the day. Congrats to these folks =D
Thanks for the great coverage, made it so much fun. Big Loz so knowledgeable and Auntie Liz charming as ever. Fantastic win for Tom , Brian Shaw what a legendary strongman. Poor Luke it just wasn't to be but what a performance. The boys did Scotland and Britain proud !!

@@shaneolsen9394 yep but I didn't say more events overall. I said they need more events in the final. Take 2 of the qualifiers and put them in the finals. 6 events to determine the champ is not a large enough sample size IMO.
@@Rocker3829 your missing my point not saying the athletes couldn't handle it but thats a big ask 2 more events I mean, how many athletes get injured anyways? Not to mention i remember the older worlds contests where they had some really odd events that weren't good tests of strength but just extra events and thats what I think would happen, more events like pick axe hold which is a dumb event anyways
@@shaneolsen9394 I think you are missing my point though. 2 events being moved from the qualifier into the final is still the same amount of total events in the competition. I do agree that the Pick Axe hold is a dumb event (as well as some of the events they have had in the past). Would 8 events (vs 6) in the final require another day? Absolutely, but I'm in favor of a little more "rest" time being built into the schedule anyway. I want to see the guys at their best, not at 50% (where more injuries tend to occur). Just my opinion though.
@@Rocker3829 i agree with the longer rest times but I think removing 2 events from the qualifiers isn't really practical, only 2 or 3 events (depending if your in first) to determine who's in the final between 25 guys? He's a machine, but Tom's weakness has been psychological and now he's won this it could really take that pressure off and he could romp through the next 5 years...alternatively it could put a load of pressure on, but hopefully not. Either way I think we all want to see Mateusz back for a proper battle. Same with Martins, although not sure he's as motivated.

Every competitor feels the pressure of course, but in Tom's case especially I feel like as an all-rounder he doesn't have another big weakness. I will be a 140kg of molten man. I love these boys like brothers of my own. And im just looking up at the pair of them from down in Newcastle.
I watched it live. Tom fell to the ground overwhelmed with emotions and Luke jumped up and down like a kid at Christmas. Pointed to the sky to honor his mother who passed. It was very emotional.

Sad for Luke though. He's in the podium of our hearts
He shocked everyone this year with just how good he really is. Looking forward to seeing more of our Ice Bath loving friend!

Sad for Luke, but respect to Maxime 💪
I suspect Luke isn't that upset about it considering Tom won the whole thing.

Hes amazing but no one is besting tom for a while, hes the new brisn shaw genuinely think he’ll win it a good few times
Only 6 months training as a leaner meaner athlete, can't wait to see more improvements after a full year!
@@rlm00 I think the next few years will be the Tom, Martins, and Mateusz show assuming the later 2 come back healthy.
Yeah I hope he has one more super hungry year in him
I don’t quite understand why people think Brian Shaw should retire.
@@aaronmason6902 I disagree. Brian looks to have a thicker bone structure than Thor. So I think Brian carries mass better than Thor does....
@@Tartug1 I respect your opinion
5 stones in 20 seconds seriously doesn’t even make sense!?!? Pumped for Tom though, and Brian still killed it!
He did the exact same stone run in 18 seconds last year.
Watching Tom do stones is like watching Messi play keepy uppy.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how JF got TEN reps on the deadlift with a torn hamstring? Monster
Besides the obvious kudos to the stoltmans, brian etc-
Can we just appreciate how much of a frickin beast JF is? Like holy.
Called it for Tom but gutted for Brian both men wanted it so much!
15 000 people were watching your live stream guys. From us all thank you
Feel for Luke, so unlucky also having to do deadlift in both heats and final. Hopefully with year of work on his new deadlift stance he can get a podium next year.
he can win just like JF
so gutted for luke, but i have no doubt that the second tom won he no longer cared about his stone run and was just so proud and happy. what an amazing performance by both spicy stoltmans!!
Thanks guys 💪🏼
Thanks so much for the recaps! Crushed about Luke. Wished Brian could have pulled it off just for everything he’s done for strongman but what a phenomenal job battling it out with Tom. Still laughing about whoever said he wouldn’t get out of his group 😂 maybe next year 😉. Can’t wait for the Shaw Classic! Congrats Spicy Tom amazing job! 2/3 of a dream came true just need to get Luke an amazing Strongman on that podium. Funny enough I thought Maxine might sneak on that podium😄
Well Novikov didn't get out of his group and he is a previous champion, it's a legit concern :)
@@mxz2024 you never know in strongman. And thought people would learn by now don’t count out Shaw until he’s just not competing.
@@BM-hw7kp yea but his chances for a title rather get worse
I also am about Luke, Eddie Hall said Luke’s tacky wasn’t working well with him sweating and it cost him on the stones
Amazing. I wanted Brian or Tom to win. Both for obvious reasons. Them coming down to the stones 1v1 is crazy. Brian still has it and Tom has his well deserved win.
I’m watching this video on the edge of my seat like I’m actually at the event. Great video! loved every second of it!
I really like Maxime, I want to see him battle it out when Mateusz is back
When Mateusz will be back, they gonna battle out with Tom for second place. Mateusz is number one!
@@CosmosZeroX I agree! And I'm curious, what's your opinion on Martins Licis?
So happy for Tom. Luke did such a phenomenal job as well this competition, sad to see him drop down off the podium from the stones and deadlift but I hope he comes back next year just as hungry and pulls it off with Tom.
It’s impossible to watch this channel an be in a bad mood, you guys are great!
If he can go from 5th place to 2nd, anything is possible.
2nd place at 39. He has proved that it is more than possible.
stones were crazy brian was ahead and dropped 5th stone
The gap between Tom Stoltman and everyone else in the Atlas Stones has to be larger than any athlete in any event.
Brian and the keg toss is up there too
@@macnewton1156 Not really, Shaw won the keg toss fair and square but i wouldn't say the gap is so huge. Tom won by 10 seconds on the stones, that's a huge gap especially at WSM standard.
@@baby_jade94 we don't really know as Brian could have probably done more on the keg toss
@@macnewton1156 how does that make any sense?
Mateusz Stone to shoulder 2019 Arnold classic was more impressive. He did 5 reps and all other athletes combined had 4 (if I m not mistaken) but yeah tom is a monster in this event.

A lot of people (not all) are acting as if Brian failed, and he should be put out to pasture. He just placed 2nd in the world and not drastically far behind. Seems like an odd conclusion to draw.
If you ain’t first, your last
@@kellypitts8481 That's clearly not true because Eythór was last and Brian was second.
Two men dint chanve a sport
Stones are a strongman staple so it makes sense to me
That was all news to me, I'm glad to hear it first from you two! Thanks for all the great coverage. Go Tom!!
Tom Stoltmam deserves the win, he's the beast in this year and almost does not show his weakness. But Brian Shaw's improvement is also wild from previous comps, kinda great comeback after all along his defeeat back in the day. Congrats to these folks =D

Huge congrats to Tom but they really need to have more than 6 events in the final. 8+ is a must.
That's why they have the qualifiers, these guys have 4 days and 11 events believe me they are whooped
Honestly they're set up now is the best its been in years they just need to fine tune certain events, keep out dumb events and work on a live stream, or something waiting till Christmas is ridiculous we all already know the new champion
Thanks for not spoiling it in the thumbnail or anywhere else!
ahh that's heartbreaking that Luke slipped up on the stones. i was expecting him to come between Tom and Brian on stones to make the podium. Glad Luke still supported Tom as he smashed it tho

@@ApothecaryTerry yes and no. Same goes for Mateusz. His and toms deadlift isn't good. It's not the psychological factor. If can't deadlift like the others than u r not sting enough. That's why u need to work on it. But let's hope that Mateusz can make it next year. He deserves a wsm title more than ever. This guy is a phenom and a gentle giant. His performance in 2020 Arnold classic was mind-blowing and for me one if not the greatest performance I have ever seen by someone.
@@artartvpro581 I didn't mean the deadlift- I meant things like dropping the anvil last year. This year he seemed to really be on top of it and I'm hoping now that he's kept that promise to his Mum especially all the pressure will be off for future events.
Every competitor feels the pressure of course, but in Tom's case especially I feel like as an all-rounder he doesn't have another big weakness. His deadlift isn't the best but improving it without trading some mobility might be tough, although to be fair JF seems to manage!
@@ApothecaryTerry ok I get it. Yeah I agree with that.
His overhead press needs work for sure. That's still a weakness in my eyes.
@@artartvpro581 Overhead press is a weird one, since he won the log run last year but did poorly this year. Not exactly the same event but it suggests it's not a technique issue.
