Music was fine, just little bitches that can't turn sound off with the click of a button. Great build and awesome reliability, 650 wheel is perfect for keeping it drivable on the street and still very fast.
This is awesome dude! I got a VQ35DE for graduation that I am going to completely build while im in college and going to find a rolling chassis to drop it in when im done. So far iv torn it down and built it back up to the cams with the stock parts (just for fun) Hopefully my ill get my first part next summer. and i just hope mine will look as clean as yours does.
Seriously considering buying a 350Z when I get back to the states. Unfortunately I won't have the cash to build the engine, forged internals and whatnot. Going to try a NA setup, probably with exhaust, headers, intake, cams. I can't wait to see your finished product dude, keep it up dude!!!
I love Japanese cars. The engineering is perfection. My dad and I are in the process of building a z32. I am running the factory cooling system on my z and haven't had an issue at all.
@Shazee083 right.. but dual over head cams means just that.. so two cams over each head. Its a v6 so has two heads. Two cams X two heads = 4 cams. so in this case DOHC is quad cam. Anyway thanks for your interest.
the bov has to be before the mafs. If it is after, the maf has read the air that is passing through the bov so it causes a rich condition when the tb is closed.
installing the greddy kit on the stock motor took a couple weekends. The build took me about 3 weekends total, not including the couple weeks of waiting on the machine shop. Did the work alone, with a hand may have gone quicker. I am on my350z, name is ashtrojan2008. But the car is great, just having some problems with my jwt flyweel. CKP won't read the trigger wheel correctly... Thanks for your comment!
i got a couple questions =p 1. how long was the engine out of the car? 2. how much did spend? and how much power did it make? i wanna kno cause i have plans for my 03 plz reply, thanks and 5/5 great project and documentation =]
right at 1k. Had it bored .020 over, decked, and everything balanced and clearanced. I had 5k miles on the stock boosted engine before the build. It held fine but didnt hold 20 psi very well.... Thanks for your interest
well it took me a weekend to pull it out and apart, and another to build and install it. the block was at the machine shop for a couple weeks, so about 3 weeks. I've got 12k in it. Since i still have factory heads and valvetrain, 570whp is about all i'll get out of the rev up. Had some ground issues so im not fully tuned yet, just a base tune of 405 whp at 8 psi but 570 wheel is my plan for now. The 03-05 de won't make more than 525-550 with the factory heads, the rev ups flow a bit better.
Its not the only car with no traction stock. I'm running 11.8's on stock tires/suspension. you're right though. trapping 124. I don't have the AWD luxury that you do. However i do beat evo's off the line. 1.8 is my best 60ft on stock size street tires. But thats what wheels/tires/coilovers/urethane bushings/control arms/etc etc are for. You can make a pinto hook, just takes money!
Yes, you can do it with an 02 maxima. I'm actually building a engine from on 05 maxima right now and putting the HR pistons (11.6:1 CR), HR head gaskets, HR head and rod bolts.
Hey loved the video wish I could remember to take pics like that lol. What all parts did you use to build the motor? I have a 72 240z and I just replace the engine in my moms 350z so i was going to rebuild her old motor and put it in the 240 with the hopes of later on putting a turbo on it. Do you have any suggestions on what parts/brands to get? Thanks
Cool.. Just done Cosworth air filters, oil filter, oils on Engine, diff and Gearbox.. fitting Michelin Pilot super sport tyres and Invidia Gemini catback this coming week :-) Have fun!
It's a slideshow... thus no audio. There is a clever feature called "mute" that will allow you to watch it in silence. This will give you the same effect as absence of music. Thanks for watching.
Nice rebuilt motor on the 350 Z. I was wondering how much for the rebuild and TT system altogether? I am interested in TTing my G35 and would like to know if the stock block could handle the boost. I would like to do it right one time so any advice?
how did you manage use a shop.. and how much prep/overhead cost did it take to put this system all together.. i'm planning on building something my self with the 2jz or the rb series motor after i come from deployment.. dunno which is better for severe duty
bad ass dude! The vq's are fun to work on. What do you plan on putting it in? And that's a great idea. Save your money and do it right the first time. Oh, and if u get an OEM gasket kit, don't use the supplied nissan red silicone, use some good ultra grey. I regret using that brittle red stuff...
hey wats up, i know alot when it comes to cars and trucks but i'ld like to see what u think about it i've planning on doing a VQ35DE swap into a 240sx hatch, runing first then maybe alittle minnor bolt ons and then work on hooking it on the road and then maybe boosting it. well i'ld love to heard wat u think...
6 psi and 10 psi is a HUGE difference. I made 405 whp at 7psi, on the built engine. I wouldnt run more than 8 on the stock block, which can put you good in the 400s especially with the high comp, with a good tune of course. This is what i didnt have.
@MrJustvtec it was, this summer i put in a mishimoto radiator; it was getting a bit hot when driving hard for extended periods. besides that, yes it's factory. i run straight distilled water with a bottle of water wetter.
hey i'm planning on turbocharging my 2004 roadster and wanted to know if you had any recommendations i spoke to a turbo shop around here and they want crazy money just wanted to know what parts would be the best to use
12k is actually pretty cheap. the biggest cost was for all of the required parts for the turbo system. The internals and fuel system was a large part too.
im thinking of TT-ing my 06 350z, but i wanted to know what will eventually have to be done to keep the engine running for, say another couple years? will it be more trouble than its worth?
No, it was not an oil burner (until i blew it) however it was of course a 06 rev up, the typical oil burner. Once i did blow it, i went through a quart about every 50 miles. Straight up smoke screen.
I plan on putting it in a 350. I love the Z its just a beautiful car. if i can find a cheap 370 ill go with that. The first thing im saving up for is a Stage 3 block actually from IPP. So its kinda a bummer that i dont actually get to do anything but i will b able to put all the parts i want on it when i get that far, its not cheap tho... Yea my dad and i were wondering about the silicone but if far from needing it so i have not looked into it yet.
@GreddyVQ35DETT u have an exaust and an intake cam so thats two exaust 2 intake but its under standable what ur saying.. way to think out side the box :)
There are probably some better oils out there than Royal Purple. A used oil analysis for the VQ35DE showed Royal Purple not doing very well for wear protection. Mobil 1s did better. I am doing my TT VQ35DE build right now afer having a single turbo on a stock block for years. We're going to be going with Lucas Racing oil after the break in. Other brands such as AMSOIL look very good.
I have been very satisfied with redline lubricants. I used royal purple gear lube this particular night (8 years ago) because it was available locally, but I have not had good experiences with royal purple products in general. Thanks for your comment.
EngineeredForBoost When we took the block apart, we could still see the cross-hatch honing from the Nissan factory on the cylinder walls. No vertical lines. Cams looked great as did the bearings. However, I am saying this after you have over 70,000 miles after your build so it isn't like it is brand new and still being broken in.
Correct me if wrong but Im assuming you installed the blow off valve at the bottom left side by the intercooler? I found a twin turbo intercooler kit for 1900.00 but it did not mention a pipe with a flange to install one, will I have to source a pipe with the fitting for one?
Not sure if youre willing to release this info, but how much did this cost you roughly? I was thinking of single turboing my 350 without a kit but i fear that it will run me up about the same as a kit (about 7000$) because of the tune and everything
I have a g35 and been researching it for a while. LOW boost is ok for our cars. 6-10 psi. BUT that 6-10 psi puts us around 350-380whp... which is PLENTY lol.
Everyone bitches about music on a slideshow video, Damn i guess clicking mute and finding music on a different video is harder than bitching... Anyways good job on the build and nice ride.
so i have a question, how the shit did you pull the engine with the wiring harness on? i just pulled the motors out of 2 350z's this weekend and we had to disconnect every connector from the engine and transmission before pulling it. there was no disconnect on the ecu for the wiring harness????
nah man, i stay broke. i do about one mod a month, slowing saving money. I don't have a video camera so i have to get videos of my car from other people, and i can never seem to catch them with their laptop. i'll put my 11 second pass up soon. along with videos like this one of my surge tank system and custom exhaust system i'll be working on soon.
@GreddyVQ35DETT hey im asking 350z all of em have twin turbo ? or ? it is option, na or twin turbo? like 300zx ? or all of 350z come with twin turbo, thao ne i like to know, if some of em dont come with turbo then how can i know if its turbo or not,
hey what's up? was reading in the comments section that you had a problem with the crank sensor reading the ring gear on the jwt flywheel. How did you solve this? I think I am having a similar problem with the nismo flywheel. It doesn't read right above 4k and fucks the timing.
This is the shop at my house. Total i've got to this point is just under 12k. about the engines, i like the rb26 or even the 25. They are both great power plants and im a nissan guy. But, however, the 2jz is awesome and can hold massive power and are generally less expensive than an rb26 and has a larger displacement of 3 liters. so, i like the RB26 the best, but if you're on a budget go with the 2j IMO
@SuperSpeaker123 a long time ago, when i had the utec. crappy tune made 482whp. after that i dont trust people to tune, so i'm in the midst of tuning myself. i'll post videos when i get a chance to throw it on the rollers.
Hi. I am allso building my de engine for my greddy tt 18g kit. Are the Eagle rods good? Will use cp pistons. Do you running standard cams? Which computer are you running? Thanks
+Chris Reichelt It is basically my primitive version of what later became the "pathfinder cooling mod." Google will find many forum posts explaining it's purpose.
NO more than 8 psi if you want it to live PLEASE. 6 if its a daily. Make sure you check over the tune you get. I trusted my tuner and only looked at it when i started having problems and the timing was horrible. For a build like this, have 20K aside to start. I've gotten lucky as far as cost though...
Making even better of one of the best V6 engines ever built. I could see that making over 400hp easily.
Music was fine, just little bitches that can't turn sound off with the click of a button. Great build and awesome reliability, 650 wheel is perfect for keeping it drivable on the street and still very fast.

I am running the factory cooling system on my z and haven't had an issue at all.
Hell yeah. Actually quite effective at 180+ MPH
damn that is one crazy power plant. awesome job dude!
congrats on your successful build man.
@Shazee083 right.. but dual over head cams means just that.. so two cams over each head. Its a v6 so has two heads. Two cams X two heads = 4 cams. so in this case DOHC is quad cam. Anyway thanks for your interest.
its cool. thanks! got 20k miles on it now, still running strong.
the bov has to be before the mafs. If it is after, the maf has read the air that is passing through the bov so it causes a rich condition when the tb is closed.
I had a 350z, it definitely needed more power along with better brakes, less weight and decent suspension. Good fun in the wet though..

Awesome, I'm jealous of that collection!
that thing looks HUGE!!
i got a couple questions =p

i wanna kno cause i have plans for my 03

lol thanks. i'm not complaining. I was sick as hell with the flu toward the end of the build but i never stopped working.. and it was worth it
thanks for putting this together! i hope to build mine soon... thinking of going stock compression with 11psi of boost (Procharger).
after watching honda videos that motor looks huge lol. Sick build!

GreddyVQ35DETT Wait! and they can pick their own music too. Nice work man.
I"m jealous of that shop!
Looking good man, I hope you figure out your fuel problem
alright thanks, i only need about 500. u been a big help!
@et420A actually it is. sr20det 415whp on a dyno dynamics. awesome car.
we're getting too far into our 300zx build, so gotta get rid of the s30
Nice rebuilt motor on the 350 Z. I was wondering how much for the rebuild and TT system altogether? I am interested in TTing my G35 and would like to know if the stock block could handle the boost. I would like to do it right one time so any advice?
@510raj when warm at idle, 10-20 psi is what i usually see. of course its about 60 when cold or above 3k rpms or so.
Hey, nice 350Z bro! Awesome setup!!
Enjoy it man :)
Badass! Wanna do this to my Z. Feels like it's time for some horsepower
Disconnect the harness from the ecu and pull through the firewall. This is much easier than disconnecting everything.
Nisan man, its nice to meet another one ;)
That 240z in the back though
good work man its nice to see diyers nissan killed it with the vq
Nice vid. Where did you learn to build your engine? I'd like to learn so I can FI my G35. I'm sure it helps a lot to have a shop as well
how did you manage use a shop.. and how much prep/overhead cost did it take to put this system all together..
i'm planning on building something my self with the 2jz or the rb series motor after i come from deployment.. dunno which is better for severe duty

thanks man. it beats working outside!
hopefully its just a tuning issue
first of all, awesome car you got bro! how much did you get the twin turbo for?
awesome man u make us all proud bro have you taken out any vettes or exotics lo just curious man with all that tune you can do lots of damage.
nice build. Was that a new block you used in the build? Or was that the stock block?
hey wats up, i know alot when it comes to cars and trucks but i'ld like to see what u think about it i've planning on doing a VQ35DE swap into a 240sx hatch, runing first then maybe alittle minnor bolt ons and then work on hooking it on the road and then maybe boosting it. well i'ld love to heard wat u think...
great build man
Yeah 20psi holy shit !! Looks like she was gulping fuel like there's no tomorrow must have been some serious detonation.
Were those also Greddy turbos? Nice build by the way. Im thinking of upgrading my vq30de in my 98 maxima to a vq35de turbo..
6 psi and 10 psi is a HUGE difference. I made 405 whp at 7psi, on the built engine. I wouldnt run more than 8 on the stock block, which can put you good in the 400s especially with the high comp, with a good tune of course. This is what i didnt have.

hey dude how r u ?
can i ask u who much did spend on the parts and what did u bought ?? i mean every thing
This is awesome! I love your clips. How long did the build take?
Are you on my350z?
How much was your machine work and how long did it hold boost in stock form?
do it! you won't regret it.
thanks man. Maybe you could recommend one? or do you like the ricer boeing 747 wings? Upload a vid so we can see yours.
HEll YEahh!!!! Muy pronto!!!!!!! Wohooooooooooo!!!!!!
How long did it last boosted? 75k miles? Planning a VQ35DE Full Build myself soon.
@GreddyVQ35DETT u have an exaust and an intake cam so thats two exaust 2 intake but its under standable what ur saying.. way to think out side the box :)
@blazeabla what I said is correct. the vq35de is dual overhead cam. that is what it is there are no if's, and's, or but's.
There are probably some better oils out there than Royal Purple. A used oil analysis for the VQ35DE showed Royal Purple not doing very well for wear protection. Mobil 1s did better. Great job!
nice build; kudos
Not sure if youre willing to release this info, but how much did this cost you roughly? I was thinking of single turboing my 350 without a kit but i fear that it will run me up about the same as a kit (about 7000$) because of the tune and everything
@Heavymetal350Z a good tune on a stock block around 400whp will survive.
I have a g35 and been researching it for a while. LOW boost is ok for our cars. 6-10 psi. BUT that 6-10 psi puts us around 350-380whp... which is PLENTY lol.
Did you just hone your block and use standard size pistons, or did you bore and hone your block and use oversized pistons?
so how exactly does a turbo work? i know a super charger basically allows the engine to suck in a shit ton of air does this work in a similar fashion?
Great work! Any updates on the HP or track times?
+sean gaskin 600whp on pump fuel for the last 7 years.
Thanks man.
love these motors
Greddy td05-18g kit. i got the kit brand new on ebay for $2750, which was a steal.
Everyone bitches about music on a slideshow video, Damn i guess clicking mute and finding music on a different video is harder than bitching... Anyways good job on the build and nice ride.
I tuned it in 2008, 540whp. See my few other vids. It has been my daily at that power since then.
wow did u won at the lotto ?
amazing work and car, keep going.
so i have a question, how the shit did you pull the engine with the wiring harness on? i just pulled the motors out of 2 350z's this weekend and we had to disconnect every connector from the engine and transmission before pulling it. there was no disconnect on the ecu for the wiring harness????

how many 260z's do you have. nice ride.
wher is oil pressure suppose to be at ? i mean on 30 or under 30 or over ?
@GreddyVQ35DETT hey im asking 350z all of em have twin turbo ? or ? it is option, na or twin turbo? like 300zx ? or all of 350z come with twin turbo, thao ne i like to know, if some of em dont come with turbo then how can i know if its turbo or not,
with everything, what was the price of all of it?
hey what's up? was reading in the comments section that you had a problem with the crank sensor reading the ring gear on the jwt flywheel. How did you solve this? I think I am having a similar problem with the nismo flywheel. It doesn't read right above 4k and fucks the timing.
+Austin Bahl I replaced the hall effect ring on the JWT flywheel. Some are easily removable with stainless bolts and others are pressed on.
How much harder was it to rebuild a dual overhead cam vs a in block cam
@turboxtcx before the pathfinder cooling mod became popular, this was my version of it. it does the same exact thing.
Im guessing you kept the displacement the same?
What it cost to build this monster. One day I want to build my 06 350z into one of the beast.
I don't find the z32 to be dated at all. The z31 is, definitely. I do enjoy my z33 the most though.
@SuperSpeaker123 a long time ago, when i had the utec. crappy tune made 482whp. after that i dont trust people to tune, so i'm in the midst of tuning myself. i'll post videos when i get a chance to throw it on the rollers.
Have you dyno'd this or had it tuned yet?
Hi. I am allso building my de engine for my greddy tt 18g kit. Are the Eagle rods good? Will use cp pistons. Do you running standard cams? Which computer are you running? Thanks
running eagle rods on mine. 650hp to the wheels, havent had any problems.
+Marko Macek I went Carrillo rods and CP pistons. This was factory cams, Haltech Pro ECU.
What's that part u installed a fitting on .... where the square cap was before between the cylinder banks
