- Latocha, Tamika, Tiny and Kandi. They were just four ordinary teenagers from Atlanta, Georgia who could sing. And by sing…I really mean SANG! They also had an edge to them that set them apart from any other ‘90s female R&B act. Their group, called Xscape, dominated the era with three platinum albums and a style that fused R&B and hip hop with homegrown gospel harmonies. The group’s talent however would also become their undoing as personal rivalries tore apart their friendships and their music.

I mean, no one can say kandi was jealous that tocha was gonna sing lead more. It's how she and the people behind the scenes went about it that was wrong. tocha thought she was all that because she let Rocky and other people get in her head, thinking she was better than the group pretty much acting like she's gladys and the other girls are the pips, and i feel bad that Tamika had to lie on kandi and stick up for tocha even when tocha did wrong she felt like the only way to receive love from her sister and mother is too take tocha's side no matter what.
Oh please Kandi was definitely in fact Jealous of Tocha.
This group would have not sold without La Tocha voice and the producer's knew she was the voice.
So apparently, Tocha bought some bots to comment and come for me, because i never said they wouldn't be who they were without her. I said tocha thought she was all that because of Rocky and other people how she acted in that reality show with Xscape and SWV pretty much showed what Kandi and others have said, even da brat called tocha out on her behavior when she was doing a interview with dish nation.
@IAM_LaniDiamond no bots over here. Tocha always knew she had a beautiful voice. The fans were constantly saying that she could sang before Rocky ever stepped in the picture. Kandi just didn't think that the very person that they called " Big girl" would be the new face of Xscape. Tocha is gorgeous, and she has the strongest versatile voice of the group. Fans and producers requested that she lead more. That's why their third album was their best-selling album, even with the very little promotion they did for the album. In their show Queens of R&B Tocha handled the whole situation very well. You could clearly tell they were trying to get her out of character with the constant attacks, and she never yelled or gotten out of character, and they couldn't stand it. I don't know what ya'll see. As far as Brat, she has been kissing Kandi's behind for years. Her statements were very bias, considering she never had a problem with Tocha. She said Tocha looked the meanest, and Tocha said, but I loved on you the most, and brat didn't deny it. Kandi is sneaky. The girl has been showing who she truly is on housewives for years. She's a sneaky two face that stirs up drama and then acts surprised like she doesn't know what happened. I can only imagine how she was as a teen in the group.

One of my favorite r&b groups that has inspired me I saw them in concert a few years ago but kandi wasn’t there sadly I love their music and own all their albums

I always liked Xscape. Even though I don't know all the functionality of what it actually takes to be in a singing group. To me if you're part of a group or team there is no "I" in either one of those things. Have to learn to be ready to accept different challenges as a group/ team. It's teamwork to formulate the efforts to become greater at what you do. They shown that effort and put their best vocals forward. I'm saying a group of singers have a lead singer in most groups but all their vocally inclined efforts shines bright when you make songs where each and every member of the group has at least a solo verse within a song. You have those who harmonize well together, which Xscape executes that nicely. Each one is good at what they do. But as for voice tones Kandi has the deepest voice but also can hit those high notes when necessary. I'm sorry to say I never liked her voice tone that much. So back in the days it's like their first songs when they were younger it was like to me that era where it sounded more so like she was talking instead of singing. But them together were good with being in tuned vocally. performing shows and tours they still putting their best efforts in place. Got to love them for that. Even with the differences and dramas that occured , Xscape is a memorable girl group, they're grown, sexy, Matured and business minded and career driven women. Didn't know they had other fill in members didn't know that about them. The strongest vocalist in the group I'd say is Tamika Scott her voice tone is great, Tameka "Tiny" has a settle beautiful voice, And Kandi is the deeper voice tone and sounds good. Tocha was a good singer but she wasn't the one and only that carried the group. Her sister could pick up the slack nicely and execute the songs when it was the 3 instead of all 4.

The sweet background vocals of Xscape in Mariah’s Carey remix of ALWAYS BE MY BABY was such a delightful gem to listen to especially as a huge Kandi and Mariah fan. Such a smooth, haunting yet sweet remix. Dupri did that!!!!

@nehsangbong7249 Kandi did not write those songs by herself. Bills Bills Bills and the other songs were written by 3 or more people. She always says she wrote but she does not include everyone involved in the writing of the songs.
@@nadineleo8533 I know she didn't write those songs by herself but she did contribute to it. I've always heard her crediting the people she writes songs with including Tiny with No Scrubs. TLC credits her for sure as well. I've seen videos of people talking about her songwriting skills too.

Kandi’s solo debut album may have been slept on commercially but that project epitomizes that sassy R&B sound of 1999-2000 in a successful way. Besides DONT THINK I’M NOT, the album cuts on HEY KANDI definitely had the magical futuristic sound that she and her hitmaking partner She’kspere did well for Destiny’s Child, TLC, Pink, Mya, etc. that same year prior to her album release.

Spot on! I had that ‘Hey Kandi’ CD, which was a really good effort. She was well received outside of the US in 2000 with that album and remember her doing a lot of promo for the lead single ‘Don’t Think..’ A lot of noise was obviously made around Kandi’s and Tiny’s songwriting success and Grammy win for ‘No Scrubs’. That signature She’kspere sound was so popular and recognisable in 2000. I remember hearing that production on songs by Destiny’s Child, Pink and of course Kandi, that year. It was definitely the r’n’b sound I remember most in the year 2000.

@@DaymoJHyes! Kandi is very intentional as a writer. “Easier” was about her late brother, I believe. You’re probably right about “Cheatin On Me”, but it was a great song nonetheless, just not single material I think but the video was good! There were better options but her lyrics were too for grown folks lol e.g “I won’t bite my tongue” was a great song with a nice catchy hook but too dirty lol

Girl groups were such a FORCE in the 90s. Xscape will ALWAYS be one of the most UNFORGETTABLE and INFLUENTIAL of them all! ❤
Groups in general were the thing at the time. Actually, it seems that groups were always the standard until more solo acts started to spring up towards the end of the 20th century.
Like family, you only see people at reunions... that's it, that's all. I can't blame Kandi for distancing herself.
All of the inbred gossip is what got me. If Kandi was messing with JD wouldn't you think there would be more albums or Kandi going solo?
Tamika shoulda kept that apology. You can't put a Band-aid on what she said about Kandi. It still left a scar behind.

Yessss I grew up on all of them and still listen now.
Xscape is still one of the best groups to come out in the 90s! If some of them just put their egos aside (cough... Tocha & Kandi), they could still be banking off their success. Their classics alone are enough for us & we'd still go see them on tour.

I still love their music despite the group not being a whole anymore. I have all three of their albums, I got the first one on tape (yes tape lol) for xmas my 8th grade year. I always felt their 2nd album was the strongest. I never knew Kandi and Latocha threw hands lol. Kandi has been very successful and still is, its seems Latocha was the core of all the problems, and still is.

Why do ppl always leave out the fact that Kandi was sleeping with JD and other ppl to get moves made for the group. No way to deny that. Almost every artist who made it around that time slept with somebody. And if it was a group. Than it was at least one member with a industry connected sexual partner

Tasha is extremely against all Kandi stands for, that's a very dangerous place to be in over someone, Tasha's vocals are undeniable that could have taken her over and beyond, Kandi was the writer which gave them plenty to go on, Tasha's hatred and later the venom she allowed a male to put in her head and heart sent her down an unforgivable path, got her out here being a complete failure to everything she attempts to do, if she totally honored the higher up there's no telling how successful she would have been, now the rest of her life today will be spent paying karma for the unnecessary drama she brought on the path of successful artists, what God has for you is for you, she failed to comprehend that the journey wasn't hers alone trying to disrupt what God had for the other girls only made them more successful, never allow anyone the space to take you out the game, Tasha can thank herself and husband for the ultimate damage they have done trying to be out front on top, what pure waste of heaven sent talent, thanks Latocha and Rocky for being the most extreme self destructive human beings ever!
Tocha is not on tour because the group wants nothing to do with her or her husbands shady dealing on the side.
Saw them in person a month ago and Kandi was HORRIBLE 😩 Tameka carried their performance.

Keep on is one of my favorites and I loved Kandi's song Don't Think I'm Not. I thought Xscape were beautiful women when I was a kid and they still are in my opinion. I didn't see the usung episode, but the business can bring out the worst in everyone.

Kandi is the drama. Xscape 3 never had a problem when Kandi wasn't with them. Kandi and Tocha were the only ones bumping heads, and that's because spoiled Kandi always wants to be in charged.
