Hey girl hey! I'm totally going to be keeping my eye out. I totally agree with the adorable-ness, hand crafted weirdness at it's finest. If only I had space in my house for another hobby! 🥲🤣 Thanks for not being a pretentious plant-tuber and sharing all kinds of neat things.
Tip for the extruder! To move it back faster and so it doesn’t squeak, actually unscrew that whole piece and pull it out of the cylinder part and then give the screw piece a good little spin and it will quickly go to the front and then when you screw it in the pushy part will be at the start of the cylinder. I’m not sure if that makes any sense but if you play with it you should figure out what I mean
these pots are SO cute!!!! i make polymer clay earrings and i just started making planty ones, but i used some of my scrap clay to make some pots and i love them!! i made a 2.5 in braided one and potted my variegated teardrop peperomia in it and it’s seriously adorable! thank you for the inspiration!
Yes I’ve been looking at making braided pots but with real clay (polymer is plastic) but I’ve been worried since the texture is different but I think it should work fine
@@nevaeha4048 I bet it would be fine! I took a beginner's ceramics class in high school so I'm no expert but I think as long as the clay doesn't crack as you're making the small braids you'd be good! And even if it does crack you can smooth it out. Honestly I think that using normal clay would be easier to make clay pots because you can use water/sponges to smooth things out, while it's not as easy to smooth polymer clay out in my opinion
@@elisegard406 that was my thought about it being easier because you can just add water to smooth it and you have more opportunities to work with it before it dries if you want to carve it or change it or scrap just add water and smoosh. I also find polymer clay to be harder to get it to stick to itself then clay clay
THIS IS SO CUTE!! I really admire your personality. Your videos make me feel less lonely in quarantine, almost like being on facetime with a friend. I love how you share so many plant-oriented things rather than just showing off your plants. I aspire to be as good of a person and as heartfelt and down-to-earth as you are.
Hi Harli, you're one of my favorite planty youtubers and your videos always make me happy. I graduated with a degree in art and I have worked with clay and ceramics many times. Just as a quick tip for attaching separate pieces of clay-- If you score the clay (making small scratches) on the clay on both pieces you're attaching, it will help the clay adhere better. Happy crafting!! you make me want to pick up my old clay tools and make some cute planters!!
I work with polymer clay A LOT. Started as a curiosity and now I'm obsessed. I'm pretty sure every extruder in existence makes that terrible noise. I make jewelry but I'm now inspired to make pots for my plant babies!! BTW... Listen to Harli's pro tips (she's nailed it) and use Sculpey Primo over Sculpey III. Costs a tad more but it's an infinitely better product.
Definitely bake longer than 15 minutes! I have made polymer clay earrings and miniatures over the span of a decade now and the package instructions almost always tell you to under bake the clay. As long as you don’t bake at a higher temperature than recommended you can bake small pieces like these for 30- 45 minutes to make sure they cure. Always monitor for browning and check them though, don’t just leave them in because delicate pieces can burn if the temperature fluctuates higher, which most ovens tend to. The pieces should be strong and flexible, not brittle or delicate when they are cured properly (another factor is conditioning or kneading your clay to make sure all the components are mixed together as it can settle and get crumbly).
Have real clay (polymer clay is plastic) but interested in different designs. Been looking at the ones where they braid strands together to for a large enough piece to make a pot, marbling the clay, etc...
Now I want this to be a series on your channel!!!! A different design every week! I just love how happy the weird funky things make you, cuz I’m the same. It makes me feel less crazy 😂
Omg I've got loads of cactus and succulents and I've been struggling to find suitable pots that I like. I have some clay, I've never worked with it before, but I'm sure it'll be fine. I didn't think about making my own pots! Loved these, brilliant idea!! Thanks for sharing!!
Harli! What the heck don't feel stupid! I think this is a lovely idea and your plants and pots are so cute. As far as the shit you're going through, ugh, you so don't deserve it. Keep your head up, you've got such a sweet soul and you've got an entire community who loves and supports you. Yes I'd love to be part of the giveaway! My top wishlist plant is scindapsis pictus exotica!

If you want the legs of the pots to be a bit straighter you could always wrap a bit of clay around a piece of toothpick or bit of tin foil rolled up.

Have clay. Been intimidated by it. Can't wait to get motivated. Hope it's as easy as you make it look
Why are these tiny pots and seeing her make them so satisfying......?? Ugh, obsessed.

This is awesome. I love the little pots. I would love any philodendrons they are my favorite genus.

I’m so excited I’ve wanted to make my own pots for so long !!
Those planters are so adorable!
When making the legs you could roll out a long snake of clay and then cut them the length that you want so they are all the same thickness. 🙂
The way she does it makes them unique and wonky I like it lmfao
Wow! This is a genius idea! These came out great!
I've already made one clay pot inspired by you, can't wait to try more!
