How To Get The Best From Your Vinyl

- How I go about getting the best from my records. Most importantly, keep your records and stylus free of dust. Reduce static as much as possible by using anti-static sleeves and if necessary, a Milty Zerostat. Static attracts dust and dust is the killer of good sound. It also shortens the life of your precious stylus. You've spent enough cash on your precious records so look after them.
Some of my records i`ve had for nearly 40 years and they still sound ok and i never had any super cleaning equipment, infact i`ve never cleaned them, never cleaned or changed styluses either..They dont sound brilliant,a few crackles here and there but 40 years and still very playerable. But i do now have cleaning agents for the stylus and a carbon fibre brush for the records.
Yes, records are remarkably resilient if they're looked after and stored properly. I do find that my wet cleaner does make them sound a bit better and gets rid of many pops, crackles etc. It's really important to keep the stylus clean or it will damage the grooves of your record, it's easy and cheap enough to keep clean though - they do wear out too eventually so if you've not changed it ever and you play records regularly then I would definitely recommend you replace it as it will definitely damage your records. Mine is about 6 years old and is due to be replaced very soon - I'm probably a year over-due to be honest as I' think 2000 hours is the usual life of a stylus. Thanks for the comment.
Spin Clean is great 👍🏻
I've had a zerostat gun for over 30 years, it works really well, but I do need a record cleaning machine 🤔
There are plenty of good ones out there from VPI, Project, etc. I bought my Clearaudio Smart Matrix second hand and it does a great job.
How i clean a Record 1 record cleaning machine (Nitty Gritty manual).2 A work turntable (direct drive).3 A mold release agent (Last Power cleaner) 4. Record cleaning fluid (L, Art du Son.)5. Distilled water.6. Last record preservative.
Blimey - is that a 5 step process? how long does that take ?
Hiya mate does the zerstat help with clicks and pops?
It helps eliminate static which can sometimes be heard through speakers as a click. Any clicks or pops which are due to imperfections on the record surface it won't help with.
.. I’ve got to get myself a Milty at some point. Thanks for the video.
Yeah, the Zerostat absolutely sorted my static problem - highly recommended. Thanks for the comment.
Use the zero stat while holding the album. The album should not be on the turntable.
Hmmm, interesting. I might try that. Thanks for the comment.
what is your cartridge??? Grado??
It's a Cartridge Man Music Maker III which is based on a Grado but modified.
@@vinylrulesok8470 i thought it looked like one!!! i have a grado gold.
@@rutgervangestel I think it’s the Gold that Cartridge Man uses for his modified cart so it’s obviously a good choice 👍
