This is a great tutorial, I would just let the color pool in the shadow area lol. I saw someone rubbing the brush to soften the shadow edge but I was sure that would ruin my brushes. Thank you!
Happy New Year Thank You for your UA-cam channel, most appreciated. I am experimenting with watercolours and love the magic of this medium. I love that you can try and control it or just let it do its own thing. In the new year I am aiming to do a botanical watercolour on hot press. I have started layering a painting with tulips and know i have chosen the wrong weight of paper. I keep going back to it as it is a learning curve and it is not looking too bad.
I often have a lot of trouble with watercolour as well, I’m still a beginner though. I wish I didn’t think so negatively of painting before because now I enjoy it a lot
Always love seeing new videos from you! Thank you for always being so cheerful and inspiring all these years. I hope that you have a wonderful new year filled with love of your loved ones. Cheers!
Great tutorial on shading. You mentioned taking requests so I wondered if I could add one please? I am just learning soft pastels, and I absolutely love them. However I am struggling a bit, and before I invest in some more expensive ones I want to make sure it's something I can actually do. I was wondering if you could maybe do a very simple landscape step by step that beginners can do to try to build up some confidence and maybe understand the medium better? There are some great demos and pastel artists on UA-cam but their "tutorials" tend to be them painting with the pastels to some back ground music and they are painting at something like warp speed. It's nearly impossible to follow along. And they paint complex scenes even when it's labeled "easy" .. Any help and advice you have would be very greatly appreciated.. Thanks. HAPPY NEW YEAR from your North Carolina fan, Stacy
I will try this cause I just can't seem to work the shading... I always tried the third technique but it ends up being just a dark circle. So dark color, rinse brush and come in again...
Hey. Would you mind do a watercolor penguin tutorial. It would be really cool. Maybe even one with a senerary in it's body with other penguins or something.
Hello thank you for this video! It’s so helpful , I have an answer, how do I choose colors for made the shadows for like every color in the wheel? Sorry I hope someone help, I really wish for a tutorial! Many thanks have a beautiful day! I try the complementary style shadows but I paint anime so it’s not what I searching for.. my so hard to tell
Since your painting style is Anime I would look at what Studio Ghibli does in their shadows, they tend to have them duller, or grayer that the the colors in the light. You can do that by adding the complimentary color, you can also just add some black or brown to the color. They also add shadows similar to the main colors of their subjects (like my neighbor totoro) that are the same color as light area of what is being shaded, just a bit darker (adding the color and black or brown). I hope that is helpful, good luck!!!
Does the ink of a micron pen spread out because of water? I'm likely using a normal gel pen for drawing the outlines and sometimes I noticed the ink spreading out of it’s place when I put watercolour on it.
Back to basics is a great way to start the new year, thank you.
The glazing technique seems easy
Thank you and as a beginner find the last one the hardest!
To put darker pigment & then try to pull it out into lighter.
The middle circle, method 2, is the best. It is the most true to water color, and the effect of the colors blending is superior.
Love your cheerful voice and thanks for sharing your techniques . Happy NY!

Your all video are great could you pls tell me how can I use watercolour ?
I like the gazing because it gives a minimalistic look to it. It kinda looks like cel shading.

Micron pens don't bleed if they get wet, but gel pens will.
