The side slip garland to a grip garland is really well done with good precision. This is a good drill to teach people to engage the edging without losing their separation. A lot of times when people engage the edging they rotate and loose the power of having their center of mase inside the arc.
Guy, really like your message(s) as I've watched them all. But I thought garlands we're a turn in one direction only and the release is to a flat ski. Clearly in your demos both uphill and downhill edges engage. But extremely smoothly. Best to a fellow instructor! Regards, Jody B
Very nice, Guy. I like how you're indirectly teaching skiers to move with the ski rather than against or ahead of it. If you guys ran level 3+4 training, I'd join in a heartbeat.
Your videos are so good and you are such an elegant, clean and dinamic skier. Great stuff, we are all waiting for some more tips , BRAVO !!! from Italy.
This video is very clearly showing the relationship between your body, ski and gravity. As some of comments says, it requires some prerequisite training but it is one of my favorite videos for the introductory carving short-turn. Thanks!
It is not easy to fight against the instinct. Practice the garland turns will help me to get a new habbit. Yeap! The answers are already there. So simple that sometimes we forget.
+Guanjun Li - Thanks for the feedback, stay tuned for our next video on powder skiing. Visit www.altracksacademy.com for more info on our programs. Cheers!
Flávio Gondim Thanks Flavio - hope this one helps you out next year. Perhaps you would consider a trip out to whistler some time? If so, drop us a line....Cheers!
Great technical quality on these clips. Would you be able to carve an allmountain ski almost as agile and direct as a stiff carver? I mean, if the edges are sharp and the skiis are in good condition.
I love this style - to me its the"old' style, not the newer very wide stance with deep upper body rotation like a GS racer. This is the way skiing should be practiced!! Flows much easier than the "new style" with the pontoons on your feet. Get back to this people!
Should do a lesson on how to find a nice hill with out whacky snowboarders meandering and flailing all over the hill, or people lying down for a nap, or a yard sale taking up half the run. I’d like to know where a open run exists.
Pretty unfortunate how people think a wide Stance is all there is, GS is just one discipline albeit really really fun to watch, anyhow really good vid, keep it up!
Thanks for the comment Vincent. I couldn't agree more....stance is something that needs to be adaptable to suite the terrain situation and skiing objectives. There is no such thing as "one correct stance". Thanks again, glad you like the vid! Guy
Hey, have you got any jobs in your ski school for the professional skiers and ski teacher's from Switzerland?? your's training is really coool thank's for all people
+Castor Musqué Hi Castor - All of our pros are hired through the Whistler Blackcomb Snowschool who require a Canadian working visa. Contact them directly (through their website) if you are interested in working for the school, and if you are a fully certified through the Swiss system, I could definitely take a look at you. Thanks!
+Boola Bear Thanks for your interest in the Vid - Looks like some great skiing in your uploaded vids. I'd be keen to check out more from the skier in Yellow and Blue....Cheers!
+Alltracks Academy ---Thanks. I am the skier in yellow and blue : ) Check out the one called 'Hardcore Skiing and Rock Music Compilation' if you didn't already. That's kind of our best/ flagship video. I'm not sure if I can link to it.
+Boola Bear Ahh good stuff! - just checked out your vid - you guys are ripping! You must come from a freestyle bumps background? I'll post your vid on the FB page "Elite Skiing" Cheers! Guy
+Alltracks Academy --Thanks. Actually I don't have any competitive background in anything. I just have always done all mountain skiing and done what feels right to me. I have always had information on good technique through people I know but I haven't been on a team of any type.
There are many assumptions made in this video. Certain bio-mechanical techniques in this tutorial take months or years to learn. The editing made it look like a five minute process. I believe there are easier ways to learn how to bend skis the way they were designed to be bent and how to dynamically move one's body over their skis to achieve this. And most importantly, learning how to trust your equipment. It isn't particularly hard but it also isn't particularly natural movement. Practice makes us less incompetent. Just my two bits.
+anLTproduction Thanks for taking the time to check out this video, and for you feedback. I would agree that these movements are not all intuitive, and will take some time to develop to the refinement level. But realistically, this drill boils down to promoting a strong turn completion and gentle and patient initiation, and if students achieve nothing more than this, they will have made a positive leap in their skiing...Thanks again, would be keen to hear any further ideas you might have.Guy
So the instruction to students includes extension to release. IE standing up for unweighting, yes? The opposite to what say ski racers would do when they flex to release. Do you find that extension is easier to teach? Is it because an extension is then an easier position for a skier to twist/steer/pivot from? This video link is what I think of as "flow", a much quieter upper body, not bobbing up and down. ua-cam.com/video/AKPHpzuh4uE/v-deo.html
Morten A beautiful and technically Correct skier has his boots touching at all times. Lazy, I don't care what I look like skiers ski with their feet apart.

So freaking annoying to have background music over you speaking. You may have something relevant to say, but I found it too annoying to listen to, so I will never know.
this "flow" your talking about is a style of skiing that isnt proper or practical to ski in all day with newer style skis. widen your stance and carve the skis the way there were made for.
Wow Guy, I just noticed how nice a graceful skiing style you have! Very fluid, natural and elegant!
The side slip garland to a grip garland is really well done with good precision. This is a good drill to teach people to engage the edging without losing their separation. A lot of times when people engage the edging they rotate and loose the power of having their center of mase inside the arc.
Great video! I am gonna hog up the runs tomorrow sliding all the way across 😁JK!
This is perfect! I’ve been looking for new drills to take me to the next level. Will definitely do this every day when I head out next year!
"Strong catch and an easy release"...got it. Thx.

Hey, great video!
Man i want to go to whistler so bad
Important you have to use the powder!!!
If you slow down the bit where he's skiing under lift it almost looks like he's lifting the outside ski to transition. Is that intentional?
Come to me-for skiing !

Strong catch easy release. :-)

Extension does not have to be "up and down" it can be directing the body forward and across the skis to the inside of the arc. Cross over.
nice
If you want to ski like your dad did in the 80s, - this is a great video. Otherwise, I wouldn't pay much attention.
No this is the startingpoint for every ski technique.
Morten A beautiful and technically Correct skier has his boots touching at all times. Lazy, I don't care what I look like skiers ski with their feet apart.
@@JB91710 In other news the days of skiing with your boots touching died 4 decades ago along with straight skis
