I have had the Previn/LSO recording for many years. I regularly listen to it and it’s very good. I recently bought the Jurowski/WDR Köln orchestra two cd set and it’s a knockout. I love it. I’m not surprised you’ve rated it the BEST EVER. Thank you.
Hello, concerning the "Stone Flower" I compared closely and with the score, the three complete recordings that exist: Roshdestvenski (Bolshoi), Noseda (BBC Philharmonic) and Jurowski (NDR Hannover). Noseda is a big deception, maybe recorded in a rush; there are no "mistakes" but in so many passages it completely lacks inspiration. Roshdestvenski, of course, is inspired but the sound from the 1960 is not so great. The best recording by far is Jurowski! This surprised me, because the NDR Radio Orchestra from Hannover is not famous at all (much less than than its counterpart NDR in Hamburg, let alone the BR Radio Orchestra in Munich). This shows that a "second rate" orchestra can do much better than a first class orchestra from BBC, provided the conductor knows what he wants😉
@@BernhardElsner i don't usually give up on listening but it struck me that the Stone Flower is not in the same as Cinderella. I think I will stick to the Jarvi RSNO highlights disc in future.
@@DavesClassicalGuide Listened to the Köln / Jurowski and this may sound silly but it seems like there's more storytelling through the album and the tension created is so well placed (example: Act III Amoroso). Likely my new go-to and I'm going to hunt down the CD.

I bought this a couple months ago after seeing the review on classicstoday. Love it!
Nice Talk, thx. I've got the Ashkenazy, forgot all about the imps inside the clock, is all I have to add. Thx Dave and keep em comin
I listen to this a lot before sleep 💤 Great stuff
The old Slatkin/SLSO suite disc on RCA is fantastic as well. It's too bad he didn't do the whole thing.
Yes, it's terrific.
I have this recording based on a previous video you made.
I personally enjoy this music more than Romeo and Juliet.
I wonder if you could discuss
Rozhdestvensky please?
Already have.
Oh I see he did a complete Stone Flower with NDR SO. I've always loved this ballet. I don't know 'drella very well :-(

This comes as a surprise. I've not heard Jurowski's but that will happen tonight.
I've always thought Ashkenazy and Cleveland would be your top pick.
It was, until I heard Jurowski.

I was certain this was going to be the Russian National Orchestra/Pletnev version.
It's very good, but not as good as this.
I never was aware of his ballet music.
You probably have heard some of it in other places. Like Dance of the Knights in Romeo and Juliet. I think I heard that i na TV commercial.
@@bobbegley5633 Thank you.
My take is that "Romeo & Juliet" got all the great tunes, but that "Cinderella" received an even better orchestration. I actually prefer it to "R&J".
