    Fender has made great strides with its MIMs, but they are usually not light guitars. These PRSs, with their poplar bodies, seem to be super light, but the 8.5" radius neck makes me hesitant. I love the 9.5" radius-it's the perfect compromise.

    Great review! I've never been a fan of anything made by PRS but if I had to get one it would probably be a Silver Sky like this. Not sure if this will be a continuing series, but I love the idea of someone reviewing budget-friendly guitars in the P&W context. It seems the other big Worship-centric channels only really play the insanely expensive $2-5k custom/boutique stuff which maybe 5-10% of worship players can actually afford.
    I think a lot of people would appreciate P&W-focused reviews on the budget-friendly, yet still solidly built/feature-packed guitar lines like PRS SE, Reverend, MIM Fender/Squier, Epiphone, Sterling by Music Man, Rivolta, Gretsch Streamliner/Electromatic lines, Schecter Nick Johnston/PT fastback, Charvel Socal/San Dimas, Guild Starfire/Bluesbird/Surfliner, even some Harley Benton models! Some of these brands are REALLY slept on and there are a ton of great options for people in the sub $1,500 range both used and new.

      Thanks man! Yea I agree that it seems like everyone reviews super expensive stuff. I'd love to do some more videos on budget guitars. Also, I'm from Maryland so it is pretty much a requirement that you own a PRS at some point if you live here 😂.

    Love the review!
    Here is my experience with the guitar.
    I got my PRS SE Silver Sky (Storm Gray) 2 weeks ago. I bought it from Thomann B-Stock. It came with slight issues (maybe because it is a B-Stock and traveled a lot). First 2 frets were popped out a little bit and it had a slight fret sprout, also need polishing. Nothing a luthier can't fix, though. So after I gave it to my luthier it is a dream to play now. Sounds absolutely astonishing and never had problem with the pickups. It was weirdly wired though, so i had to rewire it to my desire.
    About the bridge pickup, I think this is one of the better "Strat" bridge pickups, it's more mid-rangy and not ice picky in the highs like most classic Fender Strats. That being said, using moderately high gain, and I do use moderatley high gain, the bridge just didn't have the juice for it, which is normal for a single coil bridge pickup. I switched it with a Dimarzio Virtual Solo because I needed the beefiness and here we go.
    Although being plastic, the tuners are pretty solid and nice but I think I'm switching them with some Graph Tech ratio locking tuners in the future.
    Overall now after all these things were made the guitar feels, plays and sounds like a dream to me. It's a lot softer in terms of sound and feel than my Fender Strat and that is a good thing! The trem system is incredibly light and easy to use. It's just buttery smooth to play!
    Cheers!

    I have the same guitar. I love the sound and feel. The neck in particular is perfect for my hands. But i also have some quality control issues. From the moment I pulled it out of the box. There was some warping on the pickguard and there was a gap on the treble side of the neck pocket. I didn’t want to return it because I got it right when I launched and I didn’t know when I was gonna be able to get another one if I did. So that’s my bad for sticking with it despite those issues. but all that being said, even with those cons, the feel and sound is just excellent and punches well above it’s price for me.

    Nice playing and review. I’m a fender Stratocaster player myself. I have a 2011 American standard. But there are times I feel it’s too bright. Is this guitar warmer sounding ?

    John Mayer himself said he’s always been a 2, 4, and 5 guy when it comes to Strat pickup positions. Those positions are beautiful but a humbucker probably sounds better in the bridge. Maybe one you can split to still get that authentically bluesy 2nd position sound?

    If you can go back, would you purchase this one or a different guitar? I'm close to buying right now, my price range is 1K. Hope you can help thanks!

    The S style in my Sunday rotation is a Sire S7 which I initially bought as a ‘vintage’ (3 single coils) but very quickly replaced the pickups and changed to be HSS. I’m not sure I would buy another 3SC strat now, I love that I can switch to the bridge and it be trebley (if that is even a word!) but still full and have a bit of a volume bump for intros or solo sections (not that there are many solos in P&W music!!).

    • @sundaytone
      @sundaytone  8 місяців тому

      Yea I've been thinking about trying something that has a HSS or HSH configuration because it would be great for that.

      @@sundaytoneis the silver sky routed for humbuckers under the guard? If it is it might be a good mod project to fit one as you like the stock neck and middle pickups. Plus a new wiring loom would fix your switch issue!

    • @sundaytone
      @sundaytone  8 місяців тому +1

      @@antonyedwardson9900 No it isn't routed for that which is something I thought of doing to add a humbucker in the bridge. But it would definitely be some extra work to add that.

      @@antonyedwardson9900there’s cheaper guitars that are probably a better fit for a mod project. The SE Silver Sky’s pickups go toe to toe against American made strats at a significantly cheaper price. I have an SE myself, and a Player Series Strat, and the SS is my go to. Although I still love my Strat, the Silver Sky quality is far better.
      If you wanna mod, and without the routing (SS are not routed for a humbucker), just buy a cheaper Strat/Squier/Firefly or something

      I am a self-proclaimed word-nerd
      (Former college Comp. 101 prof.)
      so I HAD to go check on Trebley.
      Came back the adjective form as “trebly” so most definitely a word, and I kind of like your spelling better, anyway. Maybe for the French it would be: trebleé?
      Have an awesome day!

    Did you float the trem? Or are you using it as it came decked?
    Awesome video as always!

      No I didn’t float it - just using it the way it came.

    I love the PRS headstock on a 594, but for some reason I just really struggle with them on the Fender style guitars like the Silver Sky. They just look so deeply wrong on that body style

    • @mjolnircarlssen4211
      @mjolnircarlssen4211 4 місяці тому +1

      It took me since they were introduced to get past the headstock. I was absolutely convinced that I would never own one of these. Now, the SE that I own is a favorite to such a degree that I plan on getting the core model eventually (not a huge rush because the SE is absolutely great).
      Once I played it, I completely forgot about the headstock.

    Btw , my Kluson tuners (Gibson) fell apart in a year. These tuners are WAY better.
