I'd argue that the physical board game from Mario Party Advance is even more obscure, It's a physical board and you use the GBA as a dice, a way to get Stars and play mini-games with up to 4 people simultaneously.
...Couldn't they just bring this game back? Nintendo's doing cards again, and better then they've ever done before. Hell, Switch also has had some recent signs that Nintendo's still interested in physical toy-like games. It's possible.

When I was younger, a local game shop had a copy of this and and e reader bundled with it hanging on the back wall, and It interested me so much because I had never seen such a thing. Of course, I purchased it, and I have had it ever since. I always found the game very enjoyable, and take it out every now and then to play with my family.

I played this in school, and even play it now, I love the game so much it's great and you can have more than 4 players by combining more decks, I owned 3 but currently only two are complete.
I had this game and liked it a lot to be honest. Managed to play it with my friends as well. I just liked scanning the games in now and then and playing them. (It would have really helped if the E-reader could have held some games in a library like form. (Sure you could scan your friend's cards but really, it would have just been more convenient and you would not always need cards with you to play some 8-16 bit games. anyway you have a new subscriber.
Hmm i can see this idea playing well on the switch with amiibo cards, after all if it used a deck of cards and dropped the board it would still be very portable and a great game to break out with friends... maybe optionally using your amiibo figures as board pieces representing each player
