      It was totes adorbs how Shauno thought it was for him. 🤦🤣 I would be tempted to take the wheelchair to a car bodyshop and get it resprayed for selling it on. It is worth the money to get a decent price for it. No-one wants to buy a secondhand one that's chipped and scratched.

    I just wanted to say thank you for providing subtitles on your videos. I am Deaf and rely on them, and get so disappointed when there are no subtitles on UA-cam videos. I hope you will always be able to include us Deaf people (and everyone else who needs subtitles) in all your future videos as well. Some UA-camrs just stop providing it and then I have to stop watching their channel. I am also getting my first custom wheelchair soon and your videos have been an amazing help! :)

    I'm catching up on all your videos and this one made me have a huge smile on my face. Your happiness and the sense of freedom you got just literally shone through in your beautiful, beaming smile. X I can relate. I have various conditions and have used a wheelchair for years but my husband pushes me. Recently my mobility has deteriorated to the point where I need support a lot more. So I borrowed a standard mobility scooter which was great. But tbh I'm a large lady and I needed something comfortable and substantial. So I bought a fastest scooter from greenpower. And I now have my freedom back. I love going out into nature and with this I really can. So I felt your happiness totally. 😊

    I’ve had my Batec over 6yrs (amazing piece of kit), the front weights help if doing steep hills and / or off road tracks. Also not hanging bags off the back of your chair and moving your axle bar back as far as possible helps with grip. That tyre look like it might need replacing (it’s a pain in the ass to do) that type is find if most of your trips are on tarmac and flat’ish roads, but a more off road tyre helps with grip (but don’t last as long).
    You should of received 2 keys & charger with the Batec, the battery is removable. You can also get attachments for the front (baskets / bags etc) but are very expensive and you can get a second battery either a standard or travel (airplane compatible). Have search what’s out there to customise your Batec. There’s also a Batec Owners Club Facebook Page which might be worth your joining.

    Great to see what happiness these can bring. Reminds me when I got my first electric chair I was elated for a week straight. Then of course I ran into all the problems, stigma, and limitations a chair brings. Still it is so refresing to do things you could not before and actually enjoy being outside! I hope soon you will be able to get a bracket for your normal lighter chair.
    I can see you getting sore not being used to this particular chair and the weight will probably be an issue. Working out a way to get your detachable wheel wheel chair hooked up to this will be key I think because you are not likely to get a lot of use out of it unless you can manage to bring it without playing jenga all the time.
    Keep us up to date and let us know the reasonable distance you can get out of it without pulling the batteries too low. So awesome that you can offroad with it, even my electric chair would get stuck and spin out in a lot of that terrain. So so happy you can be more active to do more outdoorsy things and see trails you may never had been on before, and actually ENJOY them without having to suffer through pain to do it!

    The Batec is a great system, especially the locking mechanism. I got to try it at the expo however it's very expensive. One of the downside so far is tire wear. I've only gone a few times on my diy but look like the solid are not hard enough for the road at high speed but the feeling of not worrying about getting the front wheel stuck or going uphill is awesome....look like you're having fun already..

    Gem, that's great! I try to hold money in my bag to one day be able to do the same for outside! I got a M 25 by Alber that helps a lot but l must drive right/left with my hands and when my wheelz drive fast - up to 8,5 km/h - it's hard to have a break and the coats of the rims go off. I can't fix them cs that hurts. I feel with you, l happy for you andthat you've got more money. If it's not new l must wait ab.4 years to get the money. I'm a single mum.Good luck! Be blessed!

    Such a good capture of how much joy & benefit getting a helpful mobility tool can bring & how it can open up a new world of opportunities. Thanks for sharing Gem, so happy for you. I've got a Rio Firefly powered tricycle attachment. I've been so thankful for the opportunities it's opened up to me again (although I still have months at a time when I haven't been well enough to use it). I'm super-intrigued by the weights for the front wheel you mentioned - are they specific to Batec? I would love to get something similar if it was compatible with my Firefly as there's a steep hill up to my house, so at the moment it does spin trying to get uphill & if it has rained while I've been out & the pavements wet to get back up the hill then its a bit of a nail-biter. It would be amazing if you could share some extra info on the front-wheel weights: any specifications & how they attach etc. Thanks :) Enjoy your new-found freedom!

      Uninvited and irrelevant answer for the last person. Puccini (its new name) can do 19 miles up and downhill, with the nifty recharge option. It is really quite heavy and needs someone with muscles to get in and out of car.

    I am glad to see you went electric do be careful with flipping over backwards (because of having more weight on the back wheels I even have wheelie bars or anti-tip bar with little wheels) or falling on your side (by running into a small hole in the ground with one wheel I lost my balance and down I went) and yes I have done both more than once on my electric wheelchair almost crack a rib falling on my side because on the handrail! Good luck to the Queen of everything! Peace!

    Bien à vous

      It does crunch on every little bump. Some people have apparently cut off the stand but they evidently have some way to ensure it doesn't fall over after undocking.
      My stand has developed several dints and scratches

    • @elisee..
      @elisee.. 3 роки тому

      I’ve also got a batec and no, there’s very little chance of you flipping over backwards because of how much they weigh (approx 20kg). What would happen instead is the wheel will spin and if you completely loose traction you will start rolling backwards. But they can deal with pretty steep hills (but less so on loose ground). Having the extra weights at the front are a must in my opinion, plus for serious terrain you can get the bag and either put some weights in there or just some 2l bottles. They are much more prone to tipping over sideways if you turn too quickly.

    That looks like it gives you a lot more freedom. My mobility scooter is not as fast as that even the 'road one' (limited to 4mph on the pavements and 8mph on the road). surprised that is able to go faster.

      Alan Abbott I understand that. Since filming I nearly had an accident, and I tipped the batec and fell out and got hurt. (I’m ok, but it knocked my confidence.)

    Hi Gem, I've never commented here before, but I do follow you because I'm also a wheelchair user; unfortunately, I can't self propel, so mine is a powerchair, so I'm pretty zippy with a battery that does 6mph ( dealer when recommending the slower but nonetheless spritely, 4mph above the one I chose - 'what do you want to do, rob a bank?!') - race ya!

    Hey Gem, I have a degenerating illness which causes a lot of pain in my legs when I walk. I can walk a bit if i do not move for a while. I think with my condition i am going to be in a wheelchair soon, hence why I watch this channel. The problem is with family, I have a heavily christian grandmother who denies medical science, a mother who helped me fight my condition to let me walk. Both are in heavy denial that I am in need of a wheelchair. I don't know how to convince them of an obvious illness. Cerebral palsy with a worsening osteoarthritis. Yes I can take painkillers and therapy but there is pain for a reason. I'd actually rather be wheelchair-bound than take painkillers and act like i fixed it. I don't know how to get this across, anyone can give advise?

      hi, i just got my wheelchair. my mom has been super supportive, but my dad is still kind of in denial. this past winter i was mostly bedridden because my legs was hurting so bad that i could barley move. we actually dont know what is going on with my left leg. suddenly one day it just stopped working, it got somewhat better but not good in any kind of way. this happend 5 years ago and up until now ive mostly been putting all my weight on my right leg, witch has caused damage to it. my dads thinking is that some physio is what i need to fix it. what i did was that i got my wheelchair ordered because i need it, and ive been slowly trying to get my dad to understand how much pain im in. remember a good argument is that too much painkillers over a long time can damage your organs. i dont know how much more i can do, but at least here ar som advise.

      Wheelchairs give quality of life for disabled folks like me that can walk a bit, but not very far. I'm wheelchair shopping now. Will definitely get a power attachment like this. I really look forward to be able to take myself for a walk without worrying about exhausting myself that I can't get home. Basically I don't leave the house unless someone else takes responsibility for getting me home. I'm 36 and single.
      Question for your parents: what do they want most your you? Quality of life in a chair (mostly) or limiting yourself because you are physically not able to do all the walking?
      Side note, since I've been using a borrowed chair my endurance for sitting up had improved and my abs are getting stronger. 😊
      Good luck!

    • @brin57
      @brin57 3 роки тому +1

      @@Wheelsnoheels It's not just unfair Gem, it's almost criminal that these things cost what they do. Neither the technology nor the engineering is that complex or expensive. To make matters worse, many of these companies ripping off the wheelchair community are owned and operated by wheelchair users. This situation of exploiting their own has gone on for a very long time, and appears to be accepted because "Oh the insurance pays for it" situation in many cases. Meanwhile, those without the benefit of large settlements go without. Most of the large capital expenditures we have to make could be profitable at half the cost. But it will continue as long as people continue to pay the ridiculous amounts these companies charge. While the Batec and similar are great devices, I have zero respect for the companies themselves for the blatant profiteering they continue with decade after decade, especially when owned an operated by the disabled themselves.
