    Still rocking my G14 from 2022. This thing is still a beast. It got me through college, and I’ve put an ungodly amount of hours in it(programming + gaming). The performance actually gets better in some cases with amd FSR 3.0(if you don’t mind the quirks) I literally only have two cons, and it’s the battery life( remember you’re buying a gaming Laptop) and it takes like an extra 5-10 seconds to connect to wifi on a cold boot on my system.

    Great review, I love the pacing and relaxing tone compared to the usual high energy and pace of tech reviews. Just returned mine from best buy 6800/6700s WQHD 120hz and decided to go with the M16 (i9 12th, 3070ti, 144hz WQHD). I loved the machine, but for my taste the screen was just a touch too small.

      I’m in the same boat with switching from Nvidia to this 6700S/6800S. I really haven’t seen any reviews putting this head to head with the new 2022 Razer Blade 14, 6900HX w/ 3070ti. Curious on the performance, heat, and battery differences between the two. I’m guessing the $700 difference in price will steer many away from Razer 14.

    I opted to go without the animatrix lighting on the lid [Though I admit they are damned cool and I might go for it when I replace it in a few years if they are still doing it.] But I went for the more powerful 6900HS APU and Less powerful 6700S GPU. I keep it in Optimized mode, to disable the discrete GPU to save battery life, The graphics capabilities of the 6900HS on it's own are respectable if I still want to game a bit away from an outlet. And the overall performance difference between the 6700S and 6800S is fairly negligible.
    I prefer smaller laptops, Asus delivered a real winner with the G14 series this year. Nothing can compete with it at this size class, and still keep the same build quality, and performance. Razer Blade 14 can come in a beastly configuration, but at an extreme premium cost that just doesn't feel worth it, even next to the already slightly increased cost of this years G14's.
    My only complaint is the keyboard lighting is a little dim, and it's single zone. If we could have gotten per key lighting on top of everything else offered to the G14, I would have no complaints.

    • @WarneysWorld
      @WarneysWorld  2 роки тому +6

      That's a very fair and informed assessment. Glad you like it so far! I think most people will find their own preferred way to tame the thermals.
      The thing that bugs me with the razer blade 14 is the display aspect ratio. I have no issue with 16:9 displays, I may even prefer them for gaming, but I just think the thick bottom bezel looks horrible on the blade 14. I have a blade 17 on my desk and I think it looks great. Something about the blade 14's smaller form factor just lends itself to the 16:10 for me I think.

    • @RedMageGaming
      @RedMageGaming 2 роки тому +3

      @@WarneysWorld yea, the smaller form factor really benefits from the 16:10, that little extra screen space makes productivity apps more comfortable to work in as well.
      As for taming the thermals, I do about the same as you, just dial it back a bit on the power, and run games on slightly lower settings. It’s a 14 inch screen, I don’t need to be playing on “Ultra max pro melt your face” settings. That’s what the desktop is for!
      I love that you can limit the tdp for when your not doing anything demanding and just get bonkers battery life out of it.

      The graphics on the 7 are the same and theyre not APUs btw they're CPUs with integrated graphics there is a difference. The APUs AMD makes come with marketed GPU designs on the chip such as 660m or 680m inside the 6600U and 6800U. I don't get why you'd choose a better CPU over GPU in a gaming laptop, there is no point to more cores vs the r5/i5 and the R7 and R9 have the same amount of cores with negligible clock difference. Almost the same chip.

    I went with the 6900hs/6700 model. It's indeed a little too hot to handle with it's out of the box configuration. Having said that updated BIOS to 310 which helped and then just lowered the TDP and am able to play elden ring at 2560x1600 at 50-60fps on high without the GPU reaching over 80C. It's an immensely powerful machine that while can't exactly reach it's full limit due to the TDP, even throttled is substantially better than anything on the market in the price range. I mainly went with the new 2022 version because I needed the webcam but considering you can get the 2021 version for $1250 on sale at best buy here on the weekends, it's a steal.

    I went with the SCAR 15 instead because of the heat issues all reviewers were noting on the G14 (and I think the M16 as well). I've only had it a few days but it has never become uncomfortable, and the different modes in Armory Crate provide a balance of performance versus letting the system become too hot (I have only seen it hit over 90 once for a moment). ASUS may well have updated things since your review.

    This is my backup device if the G15 I'm about to buy goes wrong. Only thing I don't like about this laptop is the graphics card (6700s over here in the US) because of the limitations of an AMD card, have you experienced any problems, including but not limited to, slow performance in productivity apps, driver issues, or unusually bad frames in certain games? I appreciate the review and you have enlightened me on how the thermals could possibly be fixed in the future.

    • @WarneysWorld
      @WarneysWorld  2 роки тому +5

      Yeah the thermals are something which can be managed but if Asus did their homework they could make this a better experience. There are plusses and minuses between the AMD and Nvidia GPUs. If you want to stream or screen record, NVIDIA is way better. I've also struggled to get warzone to play without stutters, which I'm hoping is a driver optimisation matter, because the power is there, it runs at 100+ FPS, but micro stutters. The obvious shortcomings are raytracing and FSR isn't as good as DLSS but I expect them to close the gap with FSR 2.0. On the other hand, this AMD package does so much better on low wattage than intel/Nvidia could, so it's a great choice for an ultra portable device like this where you have power limitations. It can hang with the big boys on a tiny power budget.
      The big question with this device (and if the answer is no, you shouldn't buy it) is; do you really need a device to be this portable? Because if you don't there are similarly priced 15/16" devices which are more powerful and better for most users. Great to have choices!

    Hey man, great little review piece. Ive been umming and ahhing about wether upgrading my current G14 2020 (RTX2060) to this years model. Your take on it its quite relevent and the comments around Whattage adjustent or possible software tweaks are welcomed, so many of the other well ruputed channels have a fairly structured approach to the reveiwing but you strike a good point of this new mahcne being highly improved in the most subtle but significant ways...so the question is wait another year for the next model or take the leap? good luck in growing your channel.. you have a knack for it.

    • @WarneysWorld
      @WarneysWorld  2 роки тому

      Thank you for the feedback. I'm really pleased that you found the vid helpful.
      Always a tough call in terms of when to upgrade. I look at it differently to others. Some say if you need it, buy it. I don't look at it that way. I just think if you can afford to upgrade and the product is good, go for it. You can get caught in a trap of waiting for the next big thing, and when it arrives, it might cost twice as much!
      The new G14 is good but it's hot and you have to be willing to deal with that. The 6800s is a huge leap in performance from the 2060mq. The big question is; do you need it to be this portable? Because for similar money you can get a more powerful (and better) device by going from 14" to 15"

      So portability is a big factor, I need the portability for regular travel but when not travelling the laptop sits at a workstation connected to peripherals and external monitor, my other consideration is the possible upgrade to USB4, to essentially allow thunderbolt style capability....you reckon that will happen?

    Hey great video! Now that you have the M16, What would you say is better for school? (And gaming obviously) I like the fact that the m16 for the same price has better performance than the g14. Plus there deals in Best Buy and can get an M16 2021 with the 3060 and i9 for 1500$, which is a steal considering that the 2022 version only changed the Cpu. But do you think the size is too much for carrying it arround? The 16’ screen makes the laptop huge (but it is still thin). Is the M16 a lot bigger than the g14?

    • @WarneysWorld
      @WarneysWorld  2 роки тому

      I would recommend the M16. It's not as big as you'd think and once it's in a bag, it doesn't feel significantly heavier to me. It is a plastic build with metal lid (still extremely well built) but this keeps it light. I like it.

      Im on the fence between the 6700s g14 and last years m16 with 3060 too, which do you prefer? I mostly game so the 6gb vram in the m16 at qhd+ is a little iffy not to mention lack of mux and 100w 3060(so it probably performs similar to g14

    • @ultimategohan1551
      @ultimategohan1551 2 роки тому

      Also then again best buy m16 2022 base model gets you ddr 5, 120w 3060(vs 100w last year), and a mux swtich for only 100 more than last years(even at sale price)

    • @WarneysWorld
      @WarneysWorld  2 роки тому

      @@ultimategohan1551 the M16 2022 is probably the better bet. I'm a bit on the fence about the M16 at the moment. It does a lot of things really well - keyboard, build, screen, speakers - but it's loud and still quite hot. Like I can deal with a laptop being loud if it's pushing high wattage and running cool, but it kinda isn't. Review coming soon.

    • @Tomson-wq6lw
      @Tomson-wq6lw 2 роки тому

      @@ultimategohan1551 There are little benchmarks of the rx6700s, but for what I’ve seen, it is equal to the performance of a 3060. Considering that 3060 on the m16 is not full powered, I think the rx6700s should be a little bit better in games. There are obvioulsy games who favour nvidia and other who favour AMD. Not to mention that the m16 has dlss support which is more popular, but FSR is being seen more in games. The rx6800s perfoms like a high powered 3070, so I think the rx6700s should perform like a high powered 3060 or a little worse. But as it is only 100w on the M16, the rx6700s should have the advantage. The thing is the benchmarks reviewers do on the Amd card are sometimes different, so it might say that it is like low powered 3070 or high powered 3060, or it is like a low powered 3060. There is a video where someone compares the 3060 on the g14 2021 to the rx6700s and it crashes the 2021 model. So I expect to be just as s high powered 3060. So I would choose the g14. Also the M16 has terrible battery life with 11th gen intel, whereas the 6000 series from Amd is very power efficient. Then with the 2022 model on best buy, the drawback I see on this is it has a fhd+ on a 16 inch display, which can be a little pixely (as I heard) but I don’t think it is a problem. Then there is the size, where you decide if you like the g14’s portability, or the m16 bigger screen for games. As a laptop for carrying around, the g14 definetly, but for gaming and moving once in awhile, it is a tough choice.

    A very nice and informative review, thanks!
    I've been keeping my eye on this model for a while now (and the last year's too). I primarily want this laptop for programming/photoshop work with minor gaming from time to time, so portability is what I'm after the most. At the moment I have a 17inch laptop (also an asus, but from the Tuff series). It's pretty heavy and big, so it's difficult to carry around much.
    I've been also looking between the G14 and G15 - which , in your opinion, one is better in terms of both portability and thermals? Counting that the specs, practically, are similar (excluding the bigger size on G15). I heard that the display on G14 is better, though

    It is safe for it to reach those temps, right? I played call of the wild at 2K maxed out settings (no upscaling) and this beast was giving 43 fps on avg, but was running like a jet engine haha (I bought the 2022 all-amd version)

      It is - I think the AMD safe operating temp for the cpu is 105C. Just unpleasant!

      I think they are all very good, but if I had to choose it would be the g15. The 3070ti is a monster. I'd take it over the other two.
