Hi. I have an almost identical Mitsubishi 2.0 GDI with somewhat similar problems. Since I've had the car (4 years), you say the engine speed was limited to 4000 revolutions per minute. Up to this limit, everything was ok. For almost 1 month, the engine behaves well only when idling. When I press the accelerator pedal, the engine stops. Can you give me an idea of what the problem is? With much respect. PS, sorry for the inherent mistakes, but I used google translate.
Thanks for the video it helped me with my 2003 Galant with the 2.4 GDI. I had a very occasional misfire on cyl 3 when cold which was due to a mucky contact like you showed 👍 one thing done to my car and should be done to any Mitsubishi GDI is to install an oil catch can. It helps prevents soot accumulation in the oil and also prolongs oil life
Hi guys, I have a 2004 Mitsubishi 2.0 GDI petrol, the story is, the car came to me from a recovery guy who got it as a part exchange on a deal, and the car only has one owner from new with 20850 miles on the clock the MOTS back up the mileage. the problem is I was told the car needed the fuel pump replacement, that's been done by myself, now the car turns over but won't start, and nothing comes up on the dash to say there is a problem, going by the mileage the guy who owned it didn't drive it much,,, Any ideas as to why the car won't fire up..oh the ABS light stays on but that's it
Hi,... check fuel to the hp pump, the in-tank pump has a filter which can be blocked, check the tiny filter at the intake of hp-pump, remove rail pressure sensor to see if hp-pump actually works, if that's all good you've got an injection or ignition system problem somewhere. Obviously check with suitable software if there any faults stored, the check engine light off does not necessarily mean that there are no faults. Did you check with brake cleaner if it fires ? would at least tell you that the ignition system works
Hi, how are you? Did it keep on eating up oil?? Mine wastes (eats) oil idk where to. I always need to topup. Yesterday I drove it no problems at all. But today when I went to start it, suddenly it was running bad with some misfire, check engine light went on some minutes after! I have no ideias for now... Any tips? Do you think it might be the same issue?
These engines do have quite a few problems, hard to tell what's wrong with yours. High oil consumption can be worn pistons, worn valve guides, too much crank case pressure because of blocked pipes, too thin oil or oil thinning by fuel. Misfires can be a bad spark plug, coils, injectors, blocked intakes and sticky valves due coke build up (big problem on those). so really hard to tell whats going on with yours without seeing it in real. Frequent general maintenance keeps them going, but lack of maintenance kills them very quickly.
@@dynoguy Hello! Thanks for your super reply. I went on and removed all spark plugs. The first one was so tight that almost didn't come out, but after some struggle it came out. One of them (nr. 4, counting from the front of the car), the coil and the plug itself were dipped in oil. I guess that's where some of the oil is going. I guess it's the valve cover gaskets, idk. What is your advice? I'm about to clean/change the plugs and see if it still missfires. Do you have any video of doing the head cover gaskets on the 4G94 Pajero GDI? Which oil do you use on these engines? I'm using Caltex Havoline 20W50 ( link to oil bit.ly/2WBTVeA ), what are your thoughts?
It seems rather common on these engines that the spark plugs soaked in oil, make sure you clean everything thoroughly as the spark tends to go the easiest way, which is not always on the tip of the spark plug. I usually spray coils and plug connectors with silicone spray, but make sure nothing gets into the combustion chambers because silicone poisons your lambda sensor. When you refit the plugs, use a tiny bit of anti-seize, makes it easier to get out next time. If a plug is stuck, it may help to warm up the engine (or wait if it's stone cold) and then try again. Cover gasket is easy, just remove the bolts, no video yet but i may do another 4G94 related one later on this year as the intakes are pretty full of carbon so i will do quite a bit of dismantling then. I use just normal 15W40 oil for all my cars and bikes, can't see the point stocking different oils because i buy that in drums from a truck parts supplier, costs me around $2 a liter. The Mitsy oil + filter gets changed every 5000 miles, by the way.
@@dynoguy hello! and thanks for your reply! I'll try to have everything cleaned (coils are already cleaned, no rust, no debry, was only one of them full of oil), and will replace the spark plugs with new NGK Platinum BKR5EGP one g-pole, (the ones in the car were two g-pole BKR6EKUB). Unfortunately I don't have and can't find around my local maket Anti-Seize, but will outsource some when possible. I will also try to remove some oil from the combustion chamber using a sprayer bottle head that may have gone there after removing the oily plug. Let's see... Regards
Hi what year is this . I have a 2ltr 2002 io and the top of engine is completely differant. I am in Australia. If you can send me your email i can send photos. If you have the time to help cheers . I also only have 2 coils 2 plug leads from each one from Andy .
Hi, mine is a 2002 as well, ... if yours look like i can guess from your description, it's simply not a 4G94 GDI engine, but a 2 litre with manifold injection instead. These are entirely different animals... Email address is in credits at the end of the video.

Hi i have to topup brake fluid very frequently on my Shogun Pinin 2005 model. 53000 miles on the clock, any idea why it's using too much brake oil? Thanks
See yours has the power steering/aircon belt squeak too. There's a 14mm bolt on the side of the tensioner pulley bracket, but it doesn't always fix it.
Great tips and easy to follow instructions. I have the 2.0l 4g94 engine in my Pinin IO and the engine idle i rough, rougher when warm. resulting in engine light lit up. i've checked everything you checked on your three videos but no success, as of yesterday I ran the engine idle when cold, and I lifted the oil dipstick 5-10 mm and the engine just stopped the rough idling and the enginelamp disapeard. I have not checked the obd2 codes. Please help, is there a crankcase vent on this model, and where is it placed?
Thanks,...the crankcase ventilation is the hose (approx 1/2" dia) on the back of the intake bridge, about in the middle between throttle body and air filter side. Also check your throttle body, might be full of gunk
@@dynoguy thansk for a fast respons, the throttle body is taken care of, the spark plugs ok (also checked ignition coils)and the crankcase hose is working, havent checked the crankcase, Im going for the microfilter that you described here ua-cam.com/video/KjKNnthAamg/v-deo.html to be continniued :D

Assuming there are no fault codes, the loss of power with these engines points towards a lot of coke in the intakes, usually starts getting worse around 50,000 miles, how many miles has yours ?

Throttle body magnets, fuel filter, fuel pump would be my plan of attack

Well, the most obvious reason would be a leak, just check every brake system component for signs of leaks. including corrosion on brake lines.

It's the alternator belt, the battery is very weak and the belt is old and hard, both need changing very soon

Could those plugs be iridium? The most expensive, long life type.
