Presenting the FB 2RE by Ferdinand Berthoud - GPHG Chronometry Winner

- Hello to all,
Today we have the pleasure of going behind the scene of the new FB2 by Ferdinand Berthoud, a timepiece which was not only selected in the final round of the 2020 GPHG in the chronometry category, but actually won the coveted prize and you will rapidly understand why in this video. For instance and for the very first time in a timepiece you will find the combination of a "fusée chaine" mechanism and a "remontoir d’égalité” resulting in surprising performances, but the path to achieve this was obviously a complicated one.
And another distinct feature of this new watch is that it comes in a round case instead of the recognisable octogonal case of the FB1 seen over the last few years. But still regarding design, we really like how the mechanical intricacy of this movement is displayed in minimalist way, very pure and efficient.
But furthermore, we have to say that it was a real pleasure to go and visit the team of Ferdinand Berthoud in Fleurier in these peculiar circumstances as we were the first outside team being able to do so and boy it felt good!
So a big special thank to them for this, we hope you will enjoy the video and a huge Viva Watchmaking to you all!

Just wow! One of the most Beautiful watches I have seen. Then we have to start talking about that movment. A fusee.. pure love! 💚🙌👌🍾🎉
Totally understand, watchmaking art!!!!
Amazing! Classic face, dials! And on the back craftsmanship explosion 💥!
That’s right, quite something 👍👍👍
I could even wear the watch on the wrong side and it can still look beautiful
Such an amazing piece of engineering! So impressive
Thanks 🙏👍👍
Congrats to FB for their GPHG award. Thanks for the content.
Thanks for the comment and indeed great for the FB team
Many thanks Marc for giving us a detailed look at this masterpiece! It's hard to imagine how it could be improved, everything about it is both technically and asthetically almost perfect. The design is so clean, the finish so amazing I don't know what else to say.
Well that will make the team of FB very proud, thanks
That dial is stunning. All of it is stunning. A spectacular watch in every way.
That's highly kind fo you, FB will appreciate!! Best to you
What an amazing piece of engineering art! Thank you for let us see this bijou!
Our immense pleasure! All the best to you
My two passions are watches and cycling so this Fusee chain for me is an incredible mechanism and is in the same class as a tourbillon👌🏻🤓
Hahaha, loved this comment 🙏🙏
Just the chain is a work of art! As is every component of this watch of course. It never ceases to amaze me what human hands can create.
Great, great video! I immensly love such manufacturing videos. Pure gold.
That’s nice to hear, thanks so much
Probably the best Watch review channel on youtube! Love it man
Wow, thanks, that truly makes us super happy 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Ferdinand Berthoud, Laurent Ferrier and Grönefeld are my favorite high horology watchmakers. Their masterpieces are just a feast for the eyes, especially with such good photography as yours.
That's nice to hear and you have good tastes ;) All the best to you
No Philippe DuFour? 😁😁😁
@@enriqueali haha, Mr Dufour is out of any competition I guess ;) The three brands I mentioned are impressive as they are small teams making great watches.
No F.P Journe?
@@drizztdourden5291 I like his design language, which is much more funky than many dare to be, original technical solutions. The Octa line is awesome. But somehow it doesn't make my top three, just like Lange. Maybe because I don't like overhyped things.
Is beautiful. The back face is Unique and authentic design with own soul. Greatness.
Totally is, pure and to the point but in a total elegant way 👍👍
Thank you for posting!!! I love it ! What a beautiful watch and something unique. Great job !!
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for the comment
gorgeous piece. wasnt a fan of their earlier cases but this grand feu dial and the hands.. the movment . love how the ruggedness of the strap contrasts the piece especially from the back.
A lot of thinking behind this one!!! The very best to you
One of my favourite brands. Beautiful watch, great video.
Many thanks, happy you enjoyed it!
@@watchestv-com I did thanks.
🙏🙏🙏
Fabulous..... Thank you Marc.
Fully welcome, such a pleasure to do 🙏🙏👍
What a breathtaking piece! Thanks for sharing Marc!!
Always a pleasure 🙏🙏
Great video Marc. Its nice to hear the actual people who are behind making of this watch. And what a beautiful watch. I agree with Mr. Scheufele to keep the movement on the back, makes the watch look classy from the front and the real beauty hidden. Especially with the dead beat second hand no one could guess the beautiful movement behind. Viva Watchmaking. And Viva Watch Mobile.
Hahaha, that’s right and i promise that this is a total coincidence but this timepiece just won the GPHG in its chronometry category!!! Isn’t that crazy ✌️✌️✌️
Great news and well deserved.
Amazing Watch!!!! Thanks for the video!
Do not know what say ,big fun that watch making. Thank you for the vid
Always welcome!!! Have a great day
just want to say that you and watchadvisor are the best watch channels in youtbe. all others try to promote stuff or sell chinese straps with their logo on etc. you guys are true lovers of horology, covering much more brands than the usual oh look i got a rolex or tudor videos.. anw, well done and keep doing what you are doing
Very glad to hear this, thanks so much, highly appreciated 🙏🙏
Awesome and very educated video 👏🙌👌thanks Boss Viva la Watch ✌️
Extremely happy you enjoyed this report, makes us truly happy, thanks so much!!!
Merci for everything you do, MAD!
And thanks so much for watching 👍👍👍
Absolutely Beautiful. So simple yet so complex!
Beautiful and well shot
Many thanks
What a great piece.
Something very unique indeed!
TEAM TheWATCHEStv...THANK YOU!
That's super nice of you and thanks for watching us 🙏🙏🙏
Incroyable! They all have French Name, or Belgian ! Merci d avoir partagé !😊🇨🇦
Had I seen this yesterday 11/11 I would have bought one. Anyway, I cannot find it on Aliexpress 😀😉.
Well at least you tried 😉
I found one cheap, but shipping is 300'000 dollars.
@@niceguy100000 😄😄
Lovely. The FB1 was already spectacular! I want a transparent back on both sides of my arm so I can enjoy that movement with a twist of the wrist.
A splendid piece!
Really is!!!
Perfection. To die for.
Stunning! Wow!
Just wow!!! Exquisite.
Nicely said
Absolutely gorgeous!
We understand ;)
This watch is a dream. Cannot exist. But it does.
Excellent manufacturer. An Atelier supreme. Thank you MAD. BTW, do own any quartz watches?
Thanks a lot and yes i have one ;)
Amazing!!! when he says that enamel dial with bombee minute track is very difficult to make....what does "bombee" mean? Is it the curvature at the edge?
That’s right and thanks for the reply
Love this show 🙏
Fantastic!. Congratulations to F. B.
Such a crazy piece
Wow! Btw... Do they able to make a customization? When I want to aquire it, I'll perhaps ask them to make the hands with ceramic lume like what moser does, sapphire dial with those dial design recess on the back side of the dial for the lume/ceramized lume, ring of lume around the flange/inner bezel also on the side of the movement on the back, and lastly a skeletonized plates/bridges instead though I wonder what happened to the strength structurally if a pillar constructed movement got skeletonized. Idk, I would love to see the entire finished parts unobstructed as the owner as mostly only lucky bastard watchmakers are the ones that mostly enjoyed the finishing in the inner side of the movement works (one of the reason why I became watchmaker myself). And personally I think that skeletonized movement and lumes also work well with the steam punk theme of the case, reminds me of late Gerald Genta watches and Thomas Prescher
Thanks for this inspired comment!!!! Super best to you
Quelle beauté une merveille dommage c'est hors de mon budget mais ça reste une sacrée montre de collection pour les passionnés de haute horlogerie
Très spécial en effet
love the crown and the case
Very interesting, but "What is a fusée chain?" and "What is a remontoir d'dégalité?" And what additional value does it bring to a watch?
Hi and here's a video which will enable you to understand this ua-cam.com/video/BUCbJA9unQg/v-deo.html Hope you enjoy it and best to you
@@watchestv-com Thanks for the link. I now know what the "fusée chain" is and what it is used for. But I'm still not sure about the "remontoir d'égalité". Is it also some constant force mechanism in addition to what the fusée chain offers?
I wish they stayed wit the FB one case and design. It was truly special. Here is another round watch.
They will continue both 👍
Coolest watch in 2020.I really enjoy the video, you didn't dissapoint Marc, what's next? Cheers
That's nice and count on us, we have more coming 😉
how what a precision and delicacy 👍❤️🆒
Lange&Söhne, Grand Seiko, Patek Phillipe etc. make great watches. No doubt about it. The Swiss micro brands like Greubel-Forsey, Ferdinand Berthoud, Romain Gauthier, De Bethune, L. Ferrier, F.P.Journe are in a league of their own. Price-wise too.
are there any modern materials that could produce constant force ... instead of the fusee chain mechanism.
GP implemented it in the regulating organ and it was done in silicon. Best to you
What a watch!
It really is!
ездил я по этим дорожкам, понравилось) И часы швейцарские тоже нравятся))
Marc, please think about starting a watch product placement consultancy for movies and tv. I have made a bunch of studio movies and deal with product placement consultants all the time and they NEVER have a CLUE about watches which is so infuriating because they are ALWAYS high on the list for placement with stars, many of who have ambassadorships with major brands. You can run it from MADTV , you could run a superb business with it.
Hi John and let’s indeed talk about this 👍👍 you can easily reach me through our website ;) all the very best to you
Just wow!
👍👍👍
amazing watch! CEO reminds me Kevin Spacey a bit lol
Love the remontoir idea - wasn't that done by Derek Pratt?
This combination not seen in a wristwatch ;)
When he said the production will be limited to 10 pieces... Well no need for me to have hope anymore... Splendid watch anyway.
what does it mean to be a GPHG chronometry winner? did they beat some measurements?
I'd love to see a version of this watch with the mechanics on the front with markers on the bezel. Très beau.
Berthoud made some strange chronometers. One the house restored a while back had a multitude of geared wheels and a toothed rack whose purpose was to emulate the inertia of an escape wheel or pendulum in a much larger clock.
Btw, be safe marc! Heard in Europe from my boss in Biel that there are surging second wave of cases of covid. Stay healthy and safe and viva watchmaking.
Yes real bad actually, doing my best to go through it 🤞🤞 all the best to you too
Superb!
Indeed
Excelente
Gracias!!
Amazing...
Happy you enjoyed, thanks
Stunning❤️🍺
Absolutely ;)
so much fire
Cool ;)
Woah! I like the secret reveal of the mechanism via a display back. Is the dead second for the Asian market?
@VoiDWalker I think the jump seconds here is to mimic on the wrist a clock escapement. Look up Duplex Escapement or Crab Claw escapement types to see what I am referring too.
@VoiDWalker with the jump seconds being displayed and this being a high end watch. Sweep hands that counts the vibrations per second are the norm. A jump second hand for China markets were common.
Appreciated discussion there!!! Thanks
Arts 🎭 in absolute level
Absolutely 👍👍
Thank's Andre for the video, great job! The watch, is just not my cup of tea...
And that’s totally fine my friend 👍👍 one should be subjective
Âmzing!!! Thanksss...
Totally welcome 🙏
So the idea is to make a mechanical watch that moves like a quartz watch... Is it true?
For chronometry geeks, it’s a must
They are talking about the watch all the time, witch I think also it's a beautiful time peace, but what about the real accuracy of the movement? Just in raw numbers?? I'm curious....
They mentioned that is a certified chronometer. The COSC certification means an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day.
@@hyperbius760 that's mean an omega moonwatch with cal.3861 has more accuracy than this with a fraction of cost....and more "Charme" i would say....but that's just my opinion and my preference in watch type, this one it's impressive but not my kind....
It performed better than COSC, but they didn't want to boast too much about it though ;)
I appreciate the video thank you.
best timepiece 2020
And just won the GPHG in its chronometry category, quite a amazing coincidence!!!!!
Exquisite
Indeed 👍👍 and just won the GPHG
Wollah where can i order one bro?
I would leather wear that time piece upside down.
Gorgeous back 🤩
So its double constant power mechanism
Haha, one could say this indeed!!!
Who was better ? Ferdinand Berthoud or Pierre Le Roy ? 🤔
6:40
Is that an USB 3.0?
i like it!
gary oldman’s french accent on point 🤘
How come Berthoud can get the second hand to align perfectly with a FUSEE mechanical watch but Junghans cannot do this with a Max Bill (max bill min quality) quartz for 400 euro?
Not exactly same category ;)
3:31 that brngs tears into my eyes
just curious: Am I the only one who gets "Watch of the month Club" advertisements? interrupting 1/4 mil$ watch videos? Geesh.
The back looks amazing, the front like a quartz :( Not that I'd ever afford one of these :)
Im sorry, but have to agree with you, I would wear it with backside up
Slightly harsh comment on the front side 😉 but yes the case back is simply sublime
Wanderfol
👍👍
Clearly, KF Scheufele is French for Kevin Spacey.
3:30 Look at the little baby chain!!! Shutup and take my money! 🤑⌚⛓️⚙️
Absolutely beautiful pieces, however, I wish they would make watches to a more human scale, say 40mm.
A size we’re gently getting back to fortunately
Makes no sense at all to have two technical features that are trying to do the same thing. The Remontoire will override anything the Fusee & Chain does, making it irrelevant. Better to have dual mainsprings for more power, to go with the Remontoire. That is the strategy the new Derek Pratt watch is using and would make this watch much cheaper in price with better power reserve.
Thanks for sharing this very interesting comment! Best to you
If I owned this watch I would wear it back the front...😏
Ha ha that was what I was thinking too, could look at it for hours, time would just disappear😁👍
Nice way of looking at it!
If you think about it: 300 years ago marine chronometers were more accurate than 99.9% of wrist watches nowadays.
😍🤑
😍❤😍💖👍⌚
👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
They should have made the back side front
It’s your little secret ;)
Viva Watchmaking
That’s totally right 👍👍👍
🇵🇹👌
Ferdinand Berthoud, pour trouver un défaut il faut un télescope.
C’est ça 😉
