Many thanks Marc for giving us a detailed look at this masterpiece! It's hard to imagine how it could be improved, everything about it is both technically and asthetically almost perfect. The design is so clean, the finish so amazing I don't know what else to say.
Ferdinand Berthoud, Laurent Ferrier and Grönefeld are my favorite high horology watchmakers. Their masterpieces are just a feast for the eyes, especially with such good photography as yours.
@@enriqueali haha, Mr Dufour is out of any competition I guess ;) The three brands I mentioned are impressive as they are small teams making great watches.
@@drizztdourden5291 I like his design language, which is much more funky than many dare to be, original technical solutions. The Octa line is awesome. But somehow it doesn't make my top three, just like Lange. Maybe because I don't like overhyped things.
gorgeous piece. wasnt a fan of their earlier cases but this grand feu dial and the hands.. the movment . love how the ruggedness of the strap contrasts the piece especially from the back.
just want to say that you and watchadvisor are the best watch channels in youtbe. all others try to promote stuff or sell chinese straps with their logo on etc. you guys are true lovers of horology, covering much more brands than the usual oh look i got a rolex or tudor videos.. anw, well done and keep doing what you are doing
Great video Marc. Its nice to hear the actual people who are behind making of this watch. And what a beautiful watch. I agree with Mr. Scheufele to keep the movement on the back, makes the watch look classy from the front and the real beauty hidden. Especially with the dead beat second hand no one could guess the beautiful movement behind. Viva Watchmaking. And Viva Watch Mobile.
Hahaha, that’s right and i promise that this is a total coincidence but this timepiece just won the GPHG in its chronometry category!!! Isn’t that crazy ✌️✌️✌️
Wow! Btw... Do they able to make a customization? When I want to aquire it, I'll perhaps ask them to make the hands with ceramic lume like what moser does, sapphire dial with those dial design recess on the back side of the dial for the lume/ceramized lume, ring of lume around the flange/inner bezel also on the side of the movement on the back, and lastly a skeletonized plates/bridges instead though I wonder what happened to the strength structurally if a pillar constructed movement got skeletonized. Idk, I would love to see the entire finished parts unobstructed as the owner as mostly only lucky bastard watchmakers are the ones that mostly enjoyed the finishing in the inner side of the movement works (one of the reason why I became watchmaker myself). And personally I think that skeletonized movement and lumes also work well with the steam punk theme of the case, reminds me of late Gerald Genta watches and Thomas Prescher
Berthoud made some strange chronometers. One the house restored a while back had a multitude of geared wheels and a toothed rack whose purpose was to emulate the inertia of an escape wheel or pendulum in a much larger clock.
@@watchestv-com Thanks for the link. I now know what the "fusée chain" is and what it is used for. But I'm still not sure about the "remontoir d'égalité". Is it also some constant force mechanism in addition to what the fusée chain offers?
Amazing!!! when he says that enamel dial with bombee minute track is very difficult to make....what does "bombee" mean? Is it the curvature at the edge?
Lange&Söhne, Grand Seiko, Patek Phillipe etc. make great watches. No doubt about it. The Swiss micro brands like Greubel-Forsey, Ferdinand Berthoud, Romain Gauthier, De Bethune, L. Ferrier, F.P.Journe are in a league of their own. Price-wise too.
Marc, please think about starting a watch product placement consultancy for movies and tv. I have made a bunch of studio movies and deal with product placement consultants all the time and they NEVER have a CLUE about watches which is so infuriating because they are ALWAYS high on the list for placement with stars, many of who have ambassadorships with major brands. You can run it from MADTV , you could run a superb business with it.
@VoiDWalker I think the jump seconds here is to mimic on the wrist a clock escapement. Look up Duplex Escapement or Crab Claw escapement types to see what I am referring too.

They are talking about the watch all the time, witch I think also it's a beautiful time peace, but what about the real accuracy of the movement? Just in raw numbers?? I'm curious....

I appreciate the video thank you.
How come Berthoud can get the second hand to align perfectly with a FUSEE mechanical watch but Junghans cannot do this with a Max Bill (max bill min quality) quartz for 400 euro?
Makes no sense at all to have two technical features that are trying to do the same thing. The Remontoire will override anything the Fusee & Chain does, making it irrelevant. Better to have dual mainsprings for more power, to go with the Remontoire. That is the strategy the new Derek Pratt watch is using and would make this watch much cheaper in price with better power reserve.
Amazing! Classic face, dials! And on the back craftsmanship explosion 💥!
That’s right, quite something 👍👍👍
I could even wear the watch on the wrong side and it can still look beautiful
Congrats to FB for their GPHG award. Thanks for the content.

are there any modern materials that could produce constant force ... instead of the fusee chain mechanism.

Very interesting, but "What is a fusée chain?" and "What is a remontoir d'dégalité?" And what additional value does it bring to a watch?

They are talking about the watch all the time, witch I think also it's a beautiful time peace, but what about the real accuracy of the movement? Just in raw numbers?? I'm curious....
They mentioned that is a certified chronometer. The COSC certification means an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day.

It performed better than COSC, but they didn't want to boast too much about it though ;)
So the idea is to make a mechanical watch that moves like a quartz watch... Is it true?
For chronometry geeks, it’s a must
what does it mean to be a GPHG chronometry winner? did they beat some measurements?

Who was better ? Ferdinand Berthoud or Pierre Le Roy ? 🤔

Absolutely beautiful pieces, however, I wish they would make watches to a more human scale, say 40mm.
A size we’re gently getting back to fortunately

If you think about it: 300 years ago marine chronometers were more accurate than 99.9% of wrist watches nowadays.
