If your afraid to solder, a good jeweler can do the de-solder & re install the battery
Some people say wireless charging works. I’ve owned my car 8 years and it kept saying low battery. I cut it open and learned it was a nightmare so i put it back together and now it doesn’t say it’s dead haha. I’m going to try the wireless charger

I have a 2009 E82 135i that I'm keeping up and much of your content is very helpful. As I'm still using the original key fobs, I figure it's only a matter of time before I'll need to put what you've shown here to use. Would you mind recommending some links to where I might purchase the new replacement batteries and cases? Cheers!
In my e60 525d lci the button order goes like this:
Top-unlock
Middle-lock
Bottom-trunk
I've bought this car as preowned from first owner and now you made me wonder whether my fob with a different button order from the one you mention is a result of some unprofessional repair or software error? It works like that on both fobs.

My car was telling me that my fob "needed recharging." I thought I would need to replace the battery. I talked to the Parts guy at a BMW dealership. He told me to put the fob on a wireless phone charger. I did so, for about 18 hours, and it worked! So, instead of performing surgery on your fob, try a recharge!

I have the exact same key with the battery soldered to the board. I can unlock the doors and open the trunk but it will not lock the doors. I was thinking battery but after watching this I’m thinking something else. Do you have any ideas? Thanks
I just pried mine off the metal clip and superglued the plastic case back together. It’s ghetto but it worked. I find the the plastic will hold the metal clip on the battery so there’s no need to solder it back.

If I was doing this even once, I’d make a simple wood jig to hold the key in place and grind a tool to split the case that wouldn’t follow through into the board.
Im happy that I found a solution, but my only gripe is the build quality of the new fob… it feels cheap
I just purchased a 2012 x3 with one working fob but the other one isn't recognized by the car until I hold it against the steering column, and then the car starts without issues. I replaced the battery (non rechargeable), and the issue remains the same. Can this be fixed, or do I need another fob?

My unlocking button is not functioning. To try and fix it I changed the battery somewhat similar to the method in this video. New better working as before. There is a bit corrosion near the numbers on the left. Any ideas?
Any tips, I replaced the battery as I couldn’t unlock/lock doors it worked for about 24 hours, then stopped working. I replaced with another battery, it worked again and now again has stopped working?

Dr. Dean is have a 2006 bmw e60, i opened mine and i changed the battery in my key. It would not open the doors originally but it would start the car. I measured the battery and the voltage was 1.28v so I purchased a new one installed and it still would not unlock the doors. I have a rke & rf monitor to see if it’s sending out a signal and it’s not receiving the signal from the key. What should I do?

do you have a link for the one that snaps together? I looked and couldn't find it. I had to glue my spare and I don't like the way it looks.
I used an exacto knife and just made more passes to open the case.

I changed the battery like you have in this video but now the unlock/lock/boot buttons don’t work now. It still works in the ignition but the buttons have stopped

Bought a 3 series with two keys the second key was dead, opened the case measured the battery around 2 volts. Thought save messing about soldered a new battery in, measured at 3.2 volts new and put back together. Put fob in dash and still nothing, tried waiting 20- 30 secs put foot on brake and pressed start but still nothing ? Any help much appreciated.
How do you connect the transponder to the smart battery?? I brought the easy access fob unsoldered the knackered battery and have the CR2032 battery but cant see ware it connect to can you do a video on the smart connections

Hi. Could you please advise. I did this with my spare key, but now key is not opetative, well, it closes the door and starts but it doesn't open it
I have a funny feeling it’s the actual battery that you need to buy. The VL2020 has that fully rounded contact point for recharging, whereas the snide ones off eBay do not, and that’s why when you replace the battery, it works for 24hr then stops.
Does anybody have this same issue ?? If so what’s the solution please - is it I need the VL2020 battery - tia

Can you PLEASE do a video on the central locking failure on the E90s and other models around the 2007 time as mines had it the Dealer supposedly fixed it (lasted two weeks and they REFUSED to fix it properly!) This was a recall in Germany but the Main dealer delivered my car back STILL broken with driver's door actuator and filler cap actuators both Brand New blown again NOT fixed and refused to! SYTNER CHIGWELL BMW ABSOLUTELY SHIT!! COWBOYS/CON MERCHANTS! Gave it back with an extra fault after the recalls for main power lead and heater now Hester rattles and ALSO didn't even remember to do the SERVICE it WENT IN FOR!! Absolute SHIT!!

Hey Doc first of wanted to thank you for all the info it's a great help for everything related to the car I have really :)
I was fiddling around with a diagnostics tool on my phone (Bimmergeeks ProTool) and saw a live gauge thats called 'Cylinder Knock' with the unit 'V' for each cylinder.
Do you know what it exactly means because I noticed that Cylinder 1 has more inconsistency to it compared to the other 3 cylinders?
It's an n43 with 170hp if that helps.

In a simple language the second key i will need broke the fob completely
I bought an e90 and it came with a key that had already been opened. I was told that it just needed a new battery (and I assumed it was the original key fob). But, after replacing the vl2020 the fob still does not work for unlocking/locking nor the trunk. I have always been able to use the fob to start the car and had to use the cut key for entry into the car. I have tested the transponder board and it is receiving power from the new battery. I did try to do the methods found online to program the key with the car but had no luck. Do you have any idea whats going on and why it doesn't work? Any but of information and input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Marc
