Wendy's body has always been the type to hold onto more weight making debut hard on her and even harder after she debuted. After receiving hate from the public and being on strict dieting conditions by her company Wendy fell to extreme restriction and lost an alarming amount of weight.
so basically the fans bullied her into an eating disorder and then shamed her for it afterwards

I hate how people went out of their way to bully her into thinking she's worthless then blame the company for telling her to go on a diet - chances are she's the one who wants to be on it because a bunch of idiots thought they had any right to criticize her for not being a size 0. Dan Getson Wendy didn’t spend a huge amount of time in NA. She only moved to Canada for high school and just stayed their for 4 years. She came back to SK after that and became a trainee.
LM I thought she moved there when she was 10, 11 went to shattuck st Mary’s for middle school in MN USA and then moved to Richmond hill to finish high school so a bit more than a 4 years but the fact remains.

This is scary to watch. She went from a perfectly healthy body weight to severely underweight with a clear ED. The fact people are admiring this and young insecure and impressionable fans are watching this happen is so disturbing.
I love Wendy but she has always been one of the members to get the most hate. Yeri is hated in Korea for being a late member, but people internationally always rush to defend her considering how unfair it is, while for Wendy it seems that neither side really even likes her. For Korea it has to do with her weight changes and appearance, while internationally they are about the insensitive and stereotypical imitation she did of black girls on that variety show (which was very wrong and im not at all defending her). She definitely isn't perfect and has done bad things, but I can't imagine how hard it must be to have so little support both ways. From the way her agency seems to treat her, I dont think even they care about her very much. It's probably the reason she's never been able to admit to her problem or recover. Wendy's story is just really sad like Uee. I really don't know why people dislike her so much. After power up her fan-base seems to be a bit stronger than before though. It's surprising because usually the strongest vocal is the most popular. Wendy is still pretty obsessed with dieting but she's really toned it down a bit. I think she's legit trying to find her balance so she can be happy and just have everyone leave her alone about it. The way people fat shammed her and called her gross after losing weight probably scarred her for a long time.

She got into a really bad racism scandal after she imitated a black and a white girl and is to this day getting backlash from the public although the K-Pop industry is pretty much the most racism, sexism and homophobe out of all industries. This obviously doesn't excuse her behaviour but I feel like the way she imitated white girls was just as bad. It just disappoints me that she never apologized.
Another point is that she's American and being a foreigner is usually a disadvantage in the k-pop industry (for example the public is more focused on the girls' weight like you mentioned, or just take a look at Nct WinWins, Yutas and Johnnys lines. Although the boys are, compared to Wendy, beloved by fans they rarely get center even when the song is in their native language (I'm sorry if this is a mess but it's nearly 1am in my home country and English isn't my first language but I was really glad you managed to reupload this video))

Not only that, but she apparently immitated black people again when Bad Boy came out, which got more people angry. I honestly don't think she meant to be hurtful, but she should have learned from the first time she did. And the fact that she's Canadian made it even worse.

Am I the only one who's really happy for idols who are normal weights? Like Wendy was "overweight" she was just healthier. And she was freaking adorable. It brings a smile to my face when I see idols who are more than 50kg. But, if they are naturally underweight, it still is fine. But if an idol is like 180cm and 45kg I get very worried. Underweight idols is just showing how cruel the companies are.

I used to have an ed myself and the way she described how she eats is really similar to how the ed community would skip out on food. Youd watch others eat and it would translate to yourself feeling 'satisfied'- its hard to explain without being nasty.

Im one of those people who only really gain weight in their legs and face, even if i have a small bone structure, and i gain weight easily.
it really sucks and its easy to feel self conscious about your legs. if you ever have a thigh gap, its a feeling that gives you the most happiness in the world. you begin to realize how easily your legs gain weight and so you eat less and less, three meals, to two meals, to one meal, to five bites, down to three. youre happy because the weight in your legs and overall body has reduced, but it becomes unhealthy. it takes a while to find a healthy point, because it just seems so hard to stay "fit."
everyday i look at my legs and pinch at the fat, and without realizing eat less because it just comes natural. you begin to grow uncomfortable eating food. once at a school party we had snacks and i remember feeling sick after eating a few bites. heck, even thinking about it i have the feeling of putting snacks down.
7:20 this body would make people that gain weight like wendy and i extremely happy, to be at this point. i was happy for her when i saw this clip, and then the captions said negative things about it and my smile just dropped. i had no idea. i think, this video will help me realize how unhealthy it is to eat like this.

I’m crying, as someone who has issues with weight going to her face and legs and no where else, and feel huge and afraid to eat and become bigger, I can completely relate to all of this. It's disgusting how "fans" obsessed over her gaining weight. Most K-pop idols are actually underweight, and I'd bet many of them struggle with low self-esteem and even eating disorders. I was underweight my entire life and I faced bullying because of how small I was, so it's the opposite of what Wendy went through. In the end, what matters most is that she is healthy. Her "chubby" period was probably just a healthy weight. I wish that companies would actually show compassion for their performers.

I don’t like watching her go back and forth just trying to make her fans happy, aka, not be criticized. I’ve always had “larger genes” and I’m already working hard to get where she was at the start! So, how bout, you leave the blooming woman alone and encourage her to do what SHE wants and SHE needs!
their beauty standards are so weird because where i live her body would not be considered out of shape especially the dumbdumb era the clothes just didn't compliment her shape in most of these videos when the idol looks "to big/out of shape" it's mostly because of the weird clothes they're given
I know people made fun of her weight for Dumb Dumb but it was honestly the ugly outfits and unflattering angles. If you looked at her live, she actually had not gained that much weight. And she unfortunately has the body type where she gains weight in her legs. But because she got so much hate for it and she used to be chubby (and got rejected from Cube for not meeting their visual standards) the comments got to her and she’s so scared of eating. Her 2019 accident was terrible but I’m glad to see her recording her recovery and spending time with family and getting fed well. I hope she continues to eat well and not worry about her weight so much.
It is easy to criticize than create. Every single human in this world think they are better then the others. I just thankful how Wendy can faces the hate comments and she has realize its a risk to be an idol. I pray she always healthy and happy.

I will never, never forget kfans for what they did to some idols. Taeyeon, Suri, Umji, Yeri, IU, Wheein, and more went through extremely dark and difficult days due to bullying, backlash and hate, this is absolutely sickening. It's always double sided and they're so hypocrite : "take care of yourself" but don't gain weight, "they are so healthy" when these idols are starving, "they look so good" when they are the skinniest ever, ect ... Obviously, idols mental health is pushed aside and when they express their sadness/sorrow about some moments being hard, it's always the "then you shouldn't have become an idol", like it was their job to obey fans and turn themselves into puppets who fans force to fit into a fucking unhealthy mould for their own pleasure. It's disgusting, that seriously makes me sick to the stomach. And they even dare to call ifans names ? They literally have EVERYTHING and because they are koreans they think they can dictate their lives so idols can be just like they would like them to be ? Yeah just shup the fuck up.
That's why people is more likely wants to be skinny because if your skinny everybody will praise you. It's not the person who chooses to have a food eating disorders it's because the society that makes them do it. Most of the people only sees beauty depends on their sizes that's why people forces themselves to be skinny inorder to receive love from everybody. IT IS JUST SO SAD.
I bet those people who called her too fat and too skinny have their own insecurities. If we see them I bet they wouldn’t be as beautiful and FIT as these girls are they just want an excuse to vent and put people down to make themselves look better
